Two more Specialized Elite shops open in SA

· By Press Office · 25 comments

To meet the growing demand in cycling and a more personal shopping experience, Specialized Africa has teamed up with another two cycling retailers in Gauteng. This past week two new Elite shops were opened in Dunkeld and Bedfordview. This adds to the growing countrywide network of Specialized Concept and Elite Stores.

The main goal of these Specialized Elite stores is to give the customer the best shopping experience possible, with an effective and practical shop layout. The design allows for specific areas for mountain biking, road cycling, as well as a dedicated women’s section.

“We are represented pretty well across the country now,” said Peet le Roux, Specalized Africa’s Retail Services Manager. “With the shop fitting of the store we strive to give our clients the best possible retail experience, while ensuring they get access to a large range of our products. It’s important to us that they are comfortable on the bike and can get the most out of every ride.”

Marc Wiederkehr from the Dunkeld Elite store shares in the opinion that the customer experience in-store is very important. “To have an international company like Specialized behind us has given us the support and know-how to give our customers a retail experience that will set the standard.”

Scott Mckenzie from Complete Cyclist Bedfordview said that the word elite says it all. The store is not only a Specialized Elite store, but also an elite store in general. “We have the Specialized layout of the shop for that high end, uncluttered feeling. This gives the consumer a great shopping experience with sections for women, road and mountain biking so you will find what you are looking for without having to walk from one end to the next.”

With the opening of these new shops, Specialized hopes to promote the healthy and passionate lifestyle of cycling, and to see more people on bicycles.

This seems a bit of a stretch to me.... Dunkeld have been selling spes stuff for more than 2 years... "NEW" seem like marketing hype to me - admittely they have redone the interior... but it's not by any stretch of the imagination a shop new to spes...

I think stores get ranked by Spez and only the 'special' ones get all the high end kit or something like that.......

Heard this from my LBS as well. Costs a bit if dough to upgrade to Concept/Elite though.

when I was a kid, we used to go on our daily training rides and after we would often meet up at our lbs, we talked crap with the owner/staff and checked out the workshop to see who in town was busy getting what upgrades, etc... remember always drooling over new builds, and new products on display...

personally, these shops just don't do it for me... there is something really special about building a bike from scratch... choosing components based on your preference and also your budget, etc....

except for the S-works bikes, you are always short changed with budget/low end components mixed into their stock builds, and your spaz bike has NOTHING special because they are all exactly the same being pumped off the sausage factory line...

these concept/elite stores just don't do it for me....

No No No....Why do bike shops have to look like Truworths - I find the look and feel doesn't inspire confidence like a smaller shop with the owners behind the counter and working on the bikes themselves does. Always wonder how little the sales peeps know and if they actually ride bikes...

I love the more proffesional look of the shops. It makes it a lot easier to get what I want. If I go to buy spares I specify what I am looking for instead of asking for advice. It also helps that I service my own bike so I can very quickly tell if the bike shop is trying to take me for a ride
