  1. Did you manage to source a suitable replacement battery yet?
  2. LiPo Battery 3.7V 1200mAh | 59x36x5mm 1C 1Cell – DIY Electronics This is the closest to the original's dimensions but is 5.4mm wider at 36mm compared to the OEM battery's 30.6. It could maybe be made fit with a bit of dremmeling.
  3. @News botThe links isn't working for me, I am getting this error message.
  4. I saw that it was quite expensive, but that was the only reference to a local supplier I could find. Many suppliers outside of the country, but shipping is a problem. Batteries may only be sent on a plane when adhering to very strict regulations. Some info on the regulations: Shipping Lithium Batteries | FedEx South Africa
  5. Replacement Battery for Garmin, Varia TL, RTL510, Varia RTL501, 010-01951-00, etc. - Allbats
  6. Thanks, I appreciate it. I saw that Russel Stevens also offered on the VTCC WhatsApp group to collect race numbers. I will still decide what my plans are, I see we still have until the 6th of October to change your collection point. If it turns out that I cannot go, I will see what options there are on the VTCC WhatApp group, I know George also collected number last year.
  7. I also have an inkling that there probably is no expo this year judging by all the registration points. But, I am not very happy about the new registration points. FNB Stadium is only available for registration on the Saturday, and that's the one day I cannot go to JHB for number collection. Also, FNB Stadium is the most convenient location for me, coming from Sasolburg. Now I have to go deep into Sodom and Gomorrah for number collection. Hopefully our cycling club does a mass collection on our behalf, which would save me time, money and city driving frustration.
  8. I have not had any updates to either my Edge 130 Plus or the Garmin Connect on my phone recently. The software on the Edge was last updated a few years ago and Garmin connect was last updated on my phone on the 13th of August. I have looked at that as a possibility but ruled it out since I could do everything as usual with the Garmin on Saturday, but nothing on the Sunday. Nothing's changed between those two days. And since I cannot access the device connected to the laptop with the USB cable, I cannot even try to somehow reinstall the Edge's *.GCD file. I will have to go and have a look in my drawers to see if I can find my old trusty Edge 500 which still works, but the protective rubber on the buttons is a bit dodgy and definitely isn't protected from the rain anymore.
  9. My Garmin Edge 130 Plus suddenly stopped transferring ride data with both USB and Bluetooth connection. I did a club ride on Saturday morning and successfully uploaded my ride to Garmin Connect and to Strava. On Sunday morning I went out on a solo ride, but when I got back home, I could not upload the ride by any means. At first, I tried to sync the ride using my iPhone as I usually do after a ride, but after more than 30 minutes I realised the data wasn't uploaded. I then connected it to my laptop, the Edge started charging, but it did not show up as a USB device. I tried different USB ports as well as a different computer. I tried various other USB cables, all of them that I know that they are working, but still nothing. I again tried to upload the ride via Bluetooth, this time using a spare iPhone that was recently reset to defaults so I know there should not be any clashes with whatever app. I installed the Garmin Connect app on the phone and then added the Garmin Edge. That means there are Bluetooth communication, but the device simply refuses to transfer the ride. I then reset the Edge, first the option that just clears the settings, but that did not solve the problem. I then gave the Edge a full reset, clearing everything, erases data and settings. After that I started the GPS, walked around the house and stopped it. The device itself seems to be working, it's picking up the HRM, locking onto the satellites and indicating the speed. That newly created data also did not want to upload via Bluetooth, and still the device cannot be seen on my computer, but it is being charged whilst connected to the USB port. I am at my wits end, maybe someone has some other ideas that I can also try? I really do not have money laying around to get a replacement at this stage since I recently went on early pension and I still am adjusting to the new lifestyle with less income. I therefore would for now not want to spend money unnecessarily if it can be avoided. Very recently I bought an iPad of the Bikehub classifieds for my wife, to replace her very outdated one that could not take the newer iPad OS versions and it's battery was dying, so "spare" funds went towards that.
  10. To pair your ANT+ heart rate monitor with the iGPSport BSC300, go to the "Sensor" menu and select "Heart Rate." Choose "Add New Sensor," make sure your heart rate monitor is powered on and within range, and wait for the computer to detect it.
  11. I would venture and say that your saddle is too high, or your bike is too big for you. When you cycle your hips should have minimal movement and judging by the photo of the bibs, there seems to be a lot of sideways movement over the saddle, causing friction and the subsequent wearing down of the material. To begin with, look at online bike fit calculators, something like this: Bike Fit Calculator | Jenson USA or Bike Fitting Calculator | Get a Custom Fit | Zinn Cycles
  12. Almost this one, except the top left fastening hole seems a bit low.
  13. I read this article this morning on the Daily Maverick. I think this was also mentioned during the TDF by the commentators. Elite cyclists gear up for new controversial rules Will this now mean that licensed riders taking part in UCI sanctioned events will have to get wider handlebars for their road bikes? or is this only applicable to the elite bunch? Excepts from the article: "What are the new rules? From 1 August, a new bicycle gearing regulation kicks in. Professional cyclists will only be allowed to use a 54-tooth front chain ring with an 11-tooth rear cog. This replaces the current common set-up of 54-10. To put this into context, a 54-tooth chain ring is the big front gear on a bike and the 11-tooth cog is a small rear gear. Moving to a slightly bigger cog (54-11) makes it harder to hit top speeds: the change from a 54-10 to a 54-11 gear set-up could reduce the top speed by about 2.4 kilometres per hour. Pro riders can reach incredible speeds during descents, sometimes surpassing 130 kilometres per hour. Then, from 1 January 2026, handlebars must become wider, increasing from a minimum 350mm to 360mm width (depending on the event) to at least 400mm wide."
  14. I managed to go out cycling on Sunday and did a 53.5km route. I took it slow, only 23.1km/h average speed. Took some pics to share.
  15. I would not use it in that way. If a car travels at say 120 km/h on an open road and your bike's light only starts flashing when he is 150 meters away from you, the car will cover that 150 meters in 4.5 seconds. I know it probably will be slightly longer because you may also going forward at e.g. 35 - 40 km/h, but still the time available for an approaching vehicle to take possible evasive action will still be <5 seconds. You then also have to factor in reaction time, which will also reduce the time to take any evasive action should it be needed. It's been proven that a flashing light can be seen much easier and earlier than a static light. Flashing vs steady bike lights: which is safest and what does the law say? | BikeRadar The law part can probably be ignored, this article is applicable to the UK road laws.
  16. I do not know about the owner, but yep, that was the bike store I purchased it from. We passed that bike shop a couple of times on our way to Winsford each day where the course we were attending was presented. It was a course on the operating, servicing and maintenance of an online process magnetic sector mass spectrometer. On my birthday (24th of February), which was on the Thursday, the second last day of the course, we stopped there. I first wanted to take a newer bike with a full Shimano 105 groupset, but decided on the slightly older Pinarello with a full Shimano Ultegra set on it. They both were the same price.
  17. My average speed of 28 - 30km/h does not justify spending money on something that has not bothered me ever since I got that bike. But, the itching to do some upgrades are definitely beginning to develop...😉The pensioner's income is unfortunately damping that itch.
  18. I bought my bike, a Pinarello FP Quatro, brand spanking new while I was on a training course in the UK. The bike shop in Chester had a sale to make space for the next summer season's stock. I bought it as a "from dad, to dad" birthday present for me in February 2011 for R22 500 and I think my credit card to this day has not yet fully recovered from that purchase😁. But, I did a bit of online searching before I bought it, if I purchased that same bike locally in South Africa, it would have cost me ±R45 000. That just goes to show how much of a mark-up we have to endure in South Africa. That bike now is just over 14 years old and will probably last me till I am too old to cycle anymore. I am 62 years old currently, so hopefully another 10 - 15 years. Below is the first photo I have taken of my bike after getting back to South Africa.
  19. Love these photos! Made me think of this...
  20. The average speeds that these pro cyclists are achieving is blowing my mind. Yesterday's stage was 197 km which was won in a time of 04:05:39, which equates to an average speed of 48.12 km/h. The first hour was raced at an incredible 53.9 km/h! Today probably will also be a very fast stage seeing that it is a quite flat route. And, this makes for another awesome sprint finish.
  21. Unfortunately, my bike hasn't taken me anywhere recently. I have had lens replacement surgery on both my eyes. The ophthalmologist was a bit cautious on my left eye since I previously had surgery on that eye many years ago. Luckily, I have been given the go-ahead to commence cycling again but it's back to baby steps since i have not been in the saddle for 8 weeks now. I have to get my cycling legs back before joining the cycling club group rides again. And the cold mornings aren't helping with that at all. But soon I will be out there again.
  22. Actually, not so. The club president won his age category on the Amashova October last year, and also as well as the last criterium race for 2024. Another older cyclist regularly has podium positions in the road championships events. Many other club members boast sub-3 CTCT times. I usually am the one holding on for dear life at the back of the group. Because the group rides have a no-drop policy, I often am the person dictating the group ride average speeds.
  23. Yesterday's stage was a distance of 185km, which was completed in 3:53:11 for the stage winner, which equates to an average speed of 47.6km/h! On a (VERY) good day I can only get an average speed of 34/km/h on a 68km Saturday morning club group ride, but in my defense, I am 62 years old and overweight...😁
  24. I was informed about this in an e-mail from Garmin. A Garmin Edge specifically for an MTB. Looks very promising. Garmin Edge MTB | Mountain Bike Computer
  25. Also true, the OP must be frothing at the mouth after this.
