  1. Oops! I posted this at work, and Websense prevented me from reading through the whole thread.
  2. Here is another very good review of the Edge 800: http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2010/08/garmin-edge-800-in-depth-first-look.html
  3. More info on Garmin's website: http://garmin.blogs.com/my_weblog/2010/08/garmin-unveils-touchscreen-edge-800-making-bike-route-planning-easier.html

  5. I know what your 1% trade secret is! For all those waiting in anticipation, the other 1% is as follows: Argon (Ar)=0.9340% Carbon dioxide (CO2)=0.039% Neon (Ne)=0.001818% Helium (He)=0.000524% Methane (CH4)=0.000179% Krypton (Kr)=0.000114% Hydrogen (H2)=0.000055% Nitrous oxide (N2O)=0.00003% Carbon monoxide (CO)=0.00001% Xenon (Xe)=9 × 10−6%
  6. Yesterday I friend of mine asked me to go out with him early this morning so that he can get back in the saddle. He did not do any cycling the past 3-4 months. He warned me in advance that we would have to take it slow, him being very unfit. We did a 50km ride, with an slow average of 25Km/h. I must say that this was one of my most enjoyable rides that I have had in a long time! We chatted the whole time, and I was quite dissapointed when it was over. He was just as excited being back in the saddle again.
  7. Omnico has just proved them tops in customer service, and this was not the first time. I have a Ryder 9 function cycling computer that has worked perfectly until recently. It has been in almost daily use for about 20 months on my work commuting MTB. The unit did not pick up the magnet anymore. I contacted the guys at Omnico, and a day or two later they came back to me and said that I have to go to my LBS and go and collect a brand new one which was left for me there! No questions asked, not quible, no trying to hide behind fine print, nothing! Thanks Omnico!
  8. Download the software file over here: http://www.garmin.com/software/Edge605_705_310.gcd Rename it as gupdate.gcd and copy it on on your Edge on the Garmin folder replacing the existing one. Unplug, go outside with good satellite view, switch it on and wait for the process to take place. For an even older version, just change the number "310" to "290" for the 2.9 version, which sort of seems to be the most stable one.
  9. I stubled onto this cool link, with detailed instructions how to service/repair a Shimano Sora STI. Click here: http://www.instructables.com/id/Servicing-repairing-Shimano-Sora-Shifters/
  10. I would have liked to post some screen captures, but with the new site, I apparently first have to upload the images to a file sharing site! Or am I doing it wrong? Previously I could just point to the file on my PC and upload from there. In any case, the screen captures looked like this. Image 1, click on the forum homepage link at 07:35:10PM. Image 2, 07:40:09PM (5 minutes later), page still not loaded, hit refresh. Image 3, 07:45:08PM (10 minutes after first click), page still not loaded, refresh again. 2 Minutes after this last refresh, the page eventually loads. Image 4, 07:48:00PM, click on the Mybroadband forum link in my favorites. Image 5, 07:48:18PM (18 seconds later), Forum homepage already loaded using same internet connection and same browser. So, after 15 second the Mybroadband page has loaded, and after 12 minutes TheHubsa website eventually loads. I really do not think that the browser or my PC setup is at fault here. There are times when the site loads quickly, but I mostly have to refresh before I get a new page. All the other websites I visit loads quickly, but since this site "upgrade", I have seen it load only after a few refreshes.
  11. I am almost on the verge of giving up on The Hub website. Since the "upgrade" I have to refresh the address bar a few times before a page loads. It takes extremely long to load a page when comparing to the previous one. I have cleared by browser cache, but the problems still remains. The new way of previewing a post sucks to say the least, and even that takes ages to load. All other sites I access loads fast enough, so there is nothing wrong with my connection. A good example of how a forum should look, function and load, go to the http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/ website. I am using IE8 and have no plans to use brower X,Y, or Z. I have never had a problem with any version IE, so why should I change now? PLEASE Admin, bring back the old site!
  12. Either use the Garmin Webupdater as Scotty suggested (recomended), or download the file directly from here: http://www.garmin.com/software/Edge605_705_320.gcd rename Edge605_705_320.gcd as gupdate.gcd copy it on [X]:\ (main directory of your 705) overwriting the existing one bring the 705 outside with a good satellite view Switch it on, and wait for update to complete and aquire a satellite fix.
  13. A heads up for those with a Garmin Edge 605/705, there is a software update available through the webupdater. Change Log: Changes made from version 3.10 to 3.20: Improved calculation and reporting of total ascent, total descent, and grade. Improved handling of history files when saving. Correctly calibrates wheel size when using PowerTap hub. Backlight setting now saved to configuration and set automatically on power-on. Improved 'Go Home' functionality to search for any user-created waypoints named home. Added new timezone for Santiago, Chile. Allow house number 0 on find address page. Improved range on power calibration page. GSC10 sensor improvements to reduce speed spikes. Uses elevation calibration point when starting an activity during a course. Added message indicating elevation calibration point has been found. Expand elevation calibration radius to 50m. Translations updated in the user interface.
  14. I am not seeing any images in posts, and also most of the avatar pictures are not displaying. Any one else?
  15. This is one race that still is on my "to do" list. Initially planed for it this year, but unfortunately my wife has to be admited to hospital on Sunday evening. She is scheduled for a gall bladder operation early Monday morning. The day after our 23rd wedding anniversary on 06/06 nogal!
  16. Are you talking about the coverage that was on channel 205? If so, then I agree. the comentator seemed to run out of things to say during his commenting. I do not know what the commentators name was.
  17. For electronic/pc related goods, I would recomend looking these two sites to start of with: http://www.newegg.com/ http://www.bestbuy.com/site/index.jsp
  18. Update: It seems that I was wrong, and it is actually an Italian frame made by Castello. The correct manufacturer was Castello Mario & Figlio of Torino according to this link: http://italiancyclingjournal.blogspot.com/2009/12/castello-mario-figlio-torino-and.html
  19. All info that I can find to point you in a direction is that it seems it is made from Falck Libellula tubing. Libellula is Italian for dragonfly. Google the term "Falck Libellula tubing" and you will see some links. Here is a picture of a german-built "Rabeneick Campagnolo" with the dragonfly picture..
  20. To all the Hubbers living in the Vaal Triangle, I saw this afternoon that a new Cycle Shop is opening its doors this coming Saturday morning at 08:30. Currently there are no signage up, so I do not know what the name of the shop will be. The shop is located at the Riverside Boulevard, corner of Hendrick van Eck boulevard and Frikkie Meyer boulevard in SE2. It is between Cash Crusaders and Inniebos 4X4 Center. I do not know whether there are any connection, but I saw a car from North Cliff Cycles outside the shop. Hopefully there will be a lot of opening specials.
  21. Why don't you e-mail (s t e y n j a @ a n a n z i . c o . z a) me the kml file so that I can see if I can open it with Google Earth on my PC.
  22. How do you open the file? Do you double click on the file, or do you first open up Google Earth and the"file" "open" and then browse and select the file?
  23. I might be wrong, but I think in order to open a file in Google Earth, the file must be either a kml, kmz or GPX file. What is the Polar's file format?
