  1. Seems to me when a sportsman / woman these days declare their retirement in an emotional farewell, they clearly don't mean it. More like, it's the end of season, but see you guys next year... Schumi, Sauser, Matfield...the list goes on. It's more like the smell of money is too strong to resist the urge.
  2. As much as I am Tifosi, I like the look of this RB...
  3. I believe this is not a pest-repellent, it is medicine...
  4. I wonder it Stefan Sahm will be doing his Epic filming session on his e-bike like last year? It was fun to watch him motor up the hill to the start of the berm section at Meerendal on the prologue and the final, so that he could follow whomever he was filming coming down the berms. It made some great camera angles which were fun to watch. https://www.bikehub.co.za/features/_/gear/insight/bikes-of-the-epic-stefan-sahms-bulls-e-stream-evo-fs-3-29-e-bike-r4367
  5. Except stand-up surfing will always be superior to being an egg-beater or a doormat...
  6. Can't really say I care either way. But, as for pedaling myself half-stupid up that long Bloemendal drag, only to be passed by a woman looking like she's on a merry ole Sunday ride, made me feel pretty useless a couple weeks back. As she passed me I heard her mutter something, but all I understood was "gmmpf agaajjssj gmmpfs madjll bleh" as my hearing was flooded by the sound of rushing blood from my over-revving heart beat. About 2 minutes later the hubby caught up to me, also looking quite messed up from the climb, and informed me not to feel too stupid, as his wife passed me earlier riding her Spez e-bike. That was quite an a-ha moment there, as I was just about ready to give up cycling permanently at that stage. So ja, they look lekker and make climbing a breeze, but I can't really see how the e-bikes are going to be justifiably blamed for messing up the trails, as the back-brake brigade, stravassholes and the wannabe-pinners are doing a real fine job of that already without the added benefit of e-bikes...
  7. Last weekend I had the pleasure of getting my tires properly full of "duwweltjies", and then also had my front tire poked by a stray piece of chicken wire on the B-Spot exit ramp. I simply shrugged, pulled the offending thorns and poked the tire with my finger where the wire tried to push in, and subsequently the hissing stopped. On another occasion whilst on tar, I had two moments within 5 kays from each other involving glass and a spray of sealant over me. I simply kept riding, and watched the problem sort itself out. Morally of the story? Keep the tube setup, it's waaay more interesting changing tubes instead of riding. Riding your bike is sooo 2016. You will see during the CTCT, that many people choose this tube-changing pastime considering all the discarded rubber on the route. It helps to break the monotony of having to look at the mountains and ocean all the time.
  8. 'cept for that bit called Cramps Bay...that sure is a pain in the arse (and the legs).
  9. In 2014 the wind blew so hard around Chappies that the media chopper had to divert as it could not fly in those conditions there. I'm pretty sure Jozi has nothing on the Kaapse Dokter.
  10. I have a sneaky suspicion this one's gonna be windy...The wind has been relatively quiet the last two weeks, so I guess from that perspective it will have a good blow somewhere next week before it finally succumbs to autumn.
  11. The "other" side, the one with the 26% incline on VERY rutted and rocky jeep track...
  12. Thanks 'Dale, I can however attest to bleeding eyeballs and lactic acid all over my aura, seeing as I have pedalled up the Contermanskloof mast climb a few times, and that is enough to make grown men cry...
  13. My 2 cents as I don't ride road, only MTB. From what I see in this clip is that yes, the dude is dawdling along on the "racing line", but it seems like the oke is barely hanging on after the race, and therefor is not completely aware of all that's going on around him. Personally, I would not lay the blame on his shoulders though. It looks to me more of a case of the lady/ladies in the sprint rode straight into him, thus should they not look where they are going? What does the bunch do in a sprint usually? Who is responsible for people crashing into each other, and who checks for obstacles, either as part of the sprint or in addition to the bunch? Please don't start lambasting me, as I am purely a curios MTB'er and do not know all the "politics" of what goes on in the sprint pack. All I take from this is that next time I do a fun-ride on the tar, a-la Cape Town Cycle Tour, I will check to see if the stragglers behind me racing to make the cutoff time are about to knock me into oblivion...
  14. As are mine. I use grips that give me support on my palms, I forget that they're called. They ease the pressure on my wrists, which have both been broken in the past.
  15. SEE!!!! bar-ends are NOT good for you...
  16. uhhh....yes, it IS lying if that's not CLEARLY what happened. And taking your bike to many LBS's to prove YOUR THEORY....again, it's called L Y I N G... Which eventually makes MY insurance premium higher...and THAT is NOT COOL...
  17. Hey JaxR, I rode there in January, and all was open for access. Dunno now though.
  18. It's for posts like this that we need a Don't Like This button... Perhaps the CSA / PPA should go have a round or three with the "parliamentary white-shirt brigade", seeing as they are starting to act like a certain political party in charge, saying a whole lot, but doing nothing of substance...
  19. So, its Feb. What's been done about this then by all the grand posturing quasi-official vocalists who were "chest puffing" as noted by Patchelicous?
  20. Perhaps not in the "literal" sense, as in for instance Sauser must "let" them win. I was typing faster than I think, whilst trying to multitask. What I was thinking while typing was, they have been consistent the last couple of years, and have been putting in some hard efforts over the few times I watched the race since beginning to get interested in this type of sport. What I meant by "deserved" was that because of their sustained effort and getting close to winning, (not taking anything from anyone else here) they "should" win a race soon. You know like when you watch any sport and the commentator says something like "and that was a well deserved win" or something similar. geddit? Sheez, these days even the Hub has gotten to be a place of being "PC". Dot the T's and cross the I's.
