  1. Thanks.. That "spaz" (lol) is going for R12900... I don't really have a set budget. If I could get a Large Meta I would spend R24k but as with anything, the cheaper the better, especially considering this is new to me and I'm not sure if I will get into it. My DJ bike is my first love
  2. Hmm I will check again with them. I am 1.88ish, 88KG.
  3. Thanks. That was initially what I was looking at but only smalls left and Im on the taller side.. Any thoughts on the Specialised?
  4. Hi All. I am looking for something to hit some local trails with (Tokia / Jonkershoek kind of thing). I come from a Dirt Jumping / street BMX (I have a 26" NS) background so need something that can take a hit or two but I am not expecting to do road gaps or anything on this bike. I don't really want to spend too much as this will be bike #3 and I ride the others pretty much every 2nd day. I have also never really done AM so not sure I will get into it but I'm sure I will. I was originally looking at the Commencal Meta AM for about R24k but there is no stock locally. I have come across this bike: 2009 Specialized Enduro SL Comp. http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bikes/archive/2009/enduro/enduroslcomp#specs I have taken a look at it and although its a 2009 its in pristine condition and hasn't been ridden much at all. Some questions (some are noob as this is my first Full Susp) 1. Am I mad to look at such an old bike? I originally wanted something newer but I kind of like this bikes geometry. 2. Will parts be an issue especially at the rear triangle? 3. What is a decent price to pay for such a bike considering its age? I know bikes tend to have poor resale. 4. Any other advice? Thanks
  5. Got hold of him. He got the bike from Bridge Cycles a month after it was stolen. Going to the Police again in the morning.
  6. I might need to call in this favour, thanks.
  7. Hi. The detective on my case was only available today.. He was semi-interested and said he is willing to assist but said I should approach the perp first to find out more details / arrange a viewing and then I can call him (police) to assist. I tried to call the perp today and phone is off.. Emailed him and all of a sudden his phone is in for repairs and can't take calls The more I deal with the person (via email) the more sure I am it is mine and that he just pulled some random kids details of Facebook or something and created a fake email in their name.
  8. I'd don't think I have the serial number :/ There is a serialish number on the invoice but I dont think it is the bikes serial number. I emailed the guy and he replied to say does NOT have proof of payment. Who buys a decent bicycle without POP? I now have his details and I checked him out on FB to be a decent kid (hopefully, you never know) but he does not seem like the guy to break in through three levels of security to steal a bike. What applies in this case? He bought stolen goods with no POP. School fees for him? According to the add he doesn't want it any more so I will try get it back.. the bugger probably got the bike for a fraction of what its worth. I am going to the cops tomorrow.
  9. Ok went to cops and they were helpful as always (Rondebosch). They managed to pull the details and the case number. The detective on the case will be in on Monday so I am going to go back then see what he can do.
  10. What happens if it is not my bike? (1% chance...) I know what happened to the 2nd bike but the 3rd maybe got the same part installed?
  11. No.. definitely not my pictures. Bike looks all abused to :|
  12. If you are going to be jumping at UCT you need to include a spade in your budget...
  13. Hi. My bike was stolen out of my garage in 2010. It was reported to the Police. Today it has re-appeared on Gumtree, I am 99% sure it is mine because there were only three in Cape Town and I had changed a few parts on it an guess what - the Gumtree bike matches it perfectly. I still have the invoice & photos of the bike. I don't have the police case number any more but I do have the incident date. Will the cops be willing to help? I have the guys name and telephone number (Rica?) Whats my next move?
  14. Could I do this on a DJ bike? Rear brake only.
  15. you jump with the seat like that? Very happy with my bike for now: Quite light but not super light, opted for extra strength in places rather than just going for the lightest stuff I could find. 16. Any particular reason you want to go 24 inch? Most DJ bikes are 26 inch so there are more parts around and far more stuff for sale. Unless you are already super smooth on the jumps, get a suspension fork.. It will save you more times than you can imagine. If you would just like to try the sport out look on Gumtree for a 2nd hand bike, there are always a couple going for cheap. If you are absolutely sure you are going to be riding for a long time pick and choose the parts yourself and build up your own custom rig. Choosing and building the bike is a blast on its own.. It is obviously more expensive this way but you get the perfect bike for you with quality hand picked parts in the colour you choose. 90 % of pre - built DJ bikes have nice frames but are kitted with entry level components. chainreactioncycles.com is cheap and shipping is fast and free if you spend more than +/- R2500. I am a NS bikes rider but I wouldn't buy a complete one as you are going to be ending up paying tax as complete bikes are taxed a lot but if you buy it in parts it is not... A NS will probably cost R12 000 upwards. Check this link, its a few parts that I put together now on CRC now: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/WishList.aspx?BasketID=55506934 Its a Octane One Void frame (built in same factory as NS, also have their own pro team etc). You can go cheaper if you like(cheaper crank, etc) Good luck and report back.
  17. Whats your budget?
  18. Total cost? It is a beaut.
  19. Quite a thread.. Think he has flipped one of my bikes to. Not so long ago I saw a kid on a bike identical to mine that was stolen - only difference was the gears were chop shopped. Only 2 of the bikes in Cape Town and I know the guy with the other. Going to keep an eye on this ******.
  20. No. 20" 24" 26" Its all good. I ride a 26" NS.
  21. UCT is a good place to learn, as mentioned only places easier would be Delvera or G-Spot. I am a local at UCT, its a friendly spot and locals always keen to help out newbies as long as you respect the place and don't F it up. The more people that come (with spades), the better. I would be happy to show you around and get you started if you are keen, PM me.
  22. amazing..
  23. http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/595/stp1aquagegu.jpg 2010 Giant STP 1 with DMR single speed conversion - have not seen another one like it in CPT. Stolen Thursday 19/11/2010, along with around R60k worth of stuff. If seen please PM me. Thanks
  24. whats your new price
  25. Thanks. Im not really that noob - as I said I used to BMX a lot a few years ago(I used to compete) - would have easily been able to flow the new UCT jumps. Will take it slow on the mtb, probably won't be so smooth for the first few weeks but will get there
