  1. Something similar happened in Bohemia in Stellenbosch last year. I think there is some CCTV footage on youtube... Disgusting.
  2. Glaecemic Index (GI) has to do with the difference between between sucrose, glucose and dextrose. With glucose having the highest GI and thusbeing taken up into the blood the fastest. To increase blood glucose for energy, you have to increase blood glucose levels. I think what you mean is what ratio and amount of carbohydrates (CHO) would sustain blood glucose levels without causing an insulin response. An insulin response happens when the blood glucose levels are elevated to such an extent that the pancreas secretes excess insulin to "normalise" blood glucose. Blood glucose then briefly falls below baseline (normal) levels which causes you to "hit the wall" or "bonk". Sucrose is also not all bad as it is a disaccharide and has a GI lower than glucose... What you said about MCT's are quite correct! They are the only of "fats" that get absorbed straight from the gut into the blood. Thus having a sparing effect on blood glucose. Resaerch on glycerol has been inconclusive, though certain performance enhancing effects have been observed.

  4. By the looks of his upper body he has been taking the shovel to those ramps himself. Wonder what will happen on the Beleville track on 16th DEc. Gonna be a showdown...
  5. If you constantly get high readings, then that is probably your max. Certain interverances such as power lines etc may cause false readings, so check that it makes sense that your max was in the part of your workout that was hardest. Aslo ensure that your sensor is clean, if not it may lead to false max values.
  6. Max HR is not really very important, and definitely is not a predictor of performance. There are also many variables that determine what your HR will be, like nutrition, climate, stress levels, fatigue, fitness etc. MAx HR has been shown to decrease with age, this however is not always true. If you are a bit older, the training you do will cause your HRmax to stay higher than the expected 220 - age. Then again, endurance training could decrease HRmax. If you want to work out HR training Zones, it is much better to do it by determining your LActate turnpoint.
  7. HAHAHA!!!! This makes me laugh. You will have to try very hard to beat Mason's service. I have never seen someone go more out of his way to help a customer than Mason. That said, this is not a competition and I realise that BMT is not a bikeshop.
  8. Check this out! If I looked like him I would not commenty about anything. Look at the moustache... http://www.2oceansvibe.com/category/cape-town-events/

  10. No "helmet". No "ride"... Hey Coxy?
  11. It's all about marketing! And backing up the claims you make about your product with some scientific research will be a very good idea!

    Creatine

Some reasons NOT to use Craetine... ?Effects and side effects are greatly unknown... ?Nausea, gastro-intestinal upset, headaches, cramp, muscle strains have been reported by some users ?Long term use may lead to renal (kidney) problems ?Should NOT be used by juniors or developing athletes. It may cause muscle damage Weight gains are largely attributed by water retention and not muscle hypertrophy No scientific evidence that it actually works for endurance sports Being "light" as a cyclist is a blessing! Use it to your advantage.

  14. I spoke to a physiologist who is an expert on those kind of tests yesterday. He has no interest in cycling and no biased for or against LAnce Armstrong. His expert opinion was that keeping samples frozen for nine years would certainly degrade them and yeild incorrect results...

  16. How did you manage to run the 11speed chain on that crank/chainrings?
  17. If anyone can do Pompstasie under 9min43sec, and prove it then let me know. Not my time by the way... Gradient is 7.8% for around 4km. It's like Alpe D'Huez, just 10km shorter. People actually do go up there and "pomp', even in the day. So it's not just the water purification that gives it it's name...whitesox2008-10-06 11:08:59
  18. Get the Polar. It works well. I use one. And it's a lot cheaper. Can also use it with any wheels/crank. https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=33942
  19. Pitty they not going to make the System Six anymore.
  20. Last time I checked pseudoephedrine was not a banned substance, it's rather common in many cold meds. Ephedrine is banned though and can be very dangerous. Ever think that someone shaking a leaf before a race could merely be nervous or well hydrated? Goosebumps on a hot day may well be a sign of doping but is also a sign of dehydration and adrenaline... Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions!!!
