  1. I'm not to stressed about the lights though, I guess because I ride with them every day and the front light sits under my GPS mount so its out of sight. The warmer clothing required for the morning is more of an issue though.
  2. would have been number 22 for me this year if I did not skip any, alas I'm only on 17
  3. I rather enjoyed having less people on the road, should hopefully be seeded better next year though. But if there is wind about the extra people on the road help.
  4. Cost is getting steeper, but I will enter. I see they no longer give priority to the 10 or more club.
  5. Yeah no that’s way to early. I’m only starting at 6:50, loading at 6:30
  6. sounds like the most direct route too. What time are you planning on going through ? Would you be keen for some slow company ? (still deciding what I'm going to do though)
  7. is the car still under warranty ? If so check with Ford what fitting the t/bar will do to your warranty
  8. which route would you take ? I thought about parking at my folks place and riding in. havent looked at routes yet
  9. can anyone point out this extra pivot to this roadie please
  10. love the f... traffic cap
  11. eish sorry man. apologies for my poor humour.
  12. you have support cars, you just need to teach the driver of the support polo to drive behind you and not into you. low blow... sorry
  13. its an interesting one to follow. Some land owners hating the cyclists, others have embraced them and are making an income from the cyclists.
  14. which is why I mentioned that the courtesy needs to come from both sides. The big issue in the cradle is that the cycle lanes were not added onto the road, they simply took part of the road and painted a lane. These roads are already narrow, so now youve made them more narrow by adding lanes on either side, added groups of cyclists on both sides and 2 way vehicle traffic. So even a cyclist in a car expecting the worst circumstances needs alot of wooosa to navigate the area. Its probably more the unpredictability of the cyclists though rather than just them taking up the space. You mention treating cyclists like other slow road users, but "mostly" the other slow road users check behind them before moving over or turning etc. I'm not sure what the solution is, I'd like to say education/awareness for both motorists and cyclists, but we all know it wont get through to the right people. Its a pity, other than being flippen far way, the cradle is a lekker place to ride. Great views, undulating rollers and not a heck of alot of traffic. Just wish everyone would just be lekker.
  15. they are also to narrow to fit a road bike disc wheel

    Medals at events

I was with Mudlark on this until you mentioned the cloth badge, I'd take that over a medal. My very first ever funride back in 1987 I recieved a cloth badge that I still have. That can atleast be tucked into an album with photos of the event. We should punt this idea. edit. Found a pic on my phone I have a medal cabinet that has the medals from 947 and ctct in. The rest are in a box somewhere. Actually found the same cabinet at a flee market and bought it as a second one because the first does not have enough space.
  17. on the topic of killing animals. I was at Lion and Rhino reserve yesterday. Outside the 4x4 training facility a young rhino has setup camp. The folks there were telling me that earlier in the year a few Rhino were poached on the reserve, this young rhino took a bullet, but with the help of vets survived, The moment they set him free again he made his way into the 4x4 facility and would not move out. They eventually persuaded him out but now he hang around the entrance where he feels relatively safe. Poor thing is so timid now that the zebra chase him around.
  18. like a squid squirting ink, you will disappear from site
  19. it might have been her straw hat, left on the shore with her towel when she went for a swim, wind then comes along and blows it into the water.
  20. thats better than walking around with a love bite from a great white.
  21. spot on but the SAFFA way is to sit back and go "someone else must fix this"
  22. Yesterday was spent in the Lion and Rhino reserve putting some Mitsubishi's through some punishment on the offroad course. So I got to experience the Cradle from a motorist point of view. I had already asked my colleagues to give themselves plenty time to get to the venue as their would be plenty cyclists on the road that may hold them up. As a cyclist in a car, fully expecting people riding everywhere I took it slow, but man there are some guys that really just want to make it unpleasant for everyone else. I'm not going to highlight particular incidents, only to say that if I was just a motorist heading through there I can see why they get upset. There is a point where being courteous and patient needs to come from both sides. But the most important thing that was brought to my attention is the circles, with cyclists approaching from all directions and heading in all directions, without any indication which way they are going makes for a dangerous situation.
  23. I some times ride with 2 other mates, between the 3 of us we have 3 different devices, all show different elevation stats.
