  1. That's the one! Depending on how I feel after the 70.3 and what mental space I am in, full marathon training will commence right after that.
  2. Welcome (back) all.
  3. Running is the bane of my life. Yet I have chosen to train for half Ironman. My goal is to run my first half marathon at a pace of 6:40 per KM. Target is June. Lots of work to be done to up speed and distance. Think that is a sufficiently scary target for someone who has never done any sort of running.
  4. I was reading a race report on Facebook written by someone who recently completed the New Zealand IM, and just had to share this excerpt with you lot: "In the absence of war, Ironman races provide some of the most extraordinary scenes of human suffering."
  5. Literally tears to my eyes. Condolences and thoughts to all Barry's friends and family. The world seems to have lost someone very special, and the world seems a little less joyous.
  6. Aye - learning a ton about myself. It's also a bit of an emotional roller coaster. Some days I am like "I can do this - nothing will stop me". Other days I wonder wtf I am doing and hope someone would smack me over the head to give me a wake up call.
  7. Will be there too
  8. I am a very big fan of following structured training plans that are fitted to your current fitness levels. Each workout is effort, and I always go into a workout with a goal, and knowing what I want to achieve. Results are seen through consistency, and if you are following different plans, you are not going to get consistency. Early on, you will see a lot of results, but they will slow down quickly. As for the fatigue, I still battle with it every now and then. In the beginning of my training plan, and now recently at the start of a new training block (intensity has ramped up). It takes a week or so for me to adjust, and then I feel great. I do eat really well and clean however. I drink very sparingly and avoid processed foods/refined carbs (I still fail sometimes though - those long swim sessions are killer).
  9. Welcome everyone!
  10. Welcome, James.

  12. Anyone here suffer from Femoral Nerve Entrapment? Did you manage to resolve the issue, what was the treatment and how long did it take?
  13. Yes - but at least not all of those hours are not spent by feet pounding the ground.
  14. But why? Surely the gains become so small that it's not worth it (for us weekend warriors anyway). Sorry - running is really my worst sport - it's literally the only thing holding me back at present. That is some insane distance, and the risk for injury becomes very high. Still an impressive feat though.
  15. 45km every weekend? Sjoe. That's mental.
  16. You too! Wine at the next 70.3 we attend.
  17. Hahaha. Sounds lovely. Get better soon. And good luck!
  18. In Jhb sadly. :/ Would be awesome to find a training partner.
  19. Rest to let the muscles heal up. I have the same issue now in my left leg. Swim and cycling is fine. Can't run. Not a happy camper. Off to physio tomorrow and have a new regimen of pre and post run stretching to do.
  20. I think it's a bit soon for that. The pain and stiffness go away when I am active - so it's not at a point where I can't handle it. Will give it another week and see how it goes.
  21. I already do Yoga (which does some core work) - only manage once a week, but it's all I have time for. I have two strength sessions a week, but will add more core work and maybe up the intensity a bit.
  22. Hello and welcome Zander! Scarlett is sure easy on the eye. Just like the Cervelo. If the Cervelo were a red / orange colour, I probably would name her Scarlett.
  23. Another swimming question. This week I have done about 6km of swimming and have another 2.4 tomorrow. I just hit a new PR of 1km sustained swimming. Problem is my lower back is pretty sore and stiff. I did a lot of lifting and thought I had a strong back. Anyone else have issues with their lower back when starting out swimming?
  24. Hi There, I am Melissa. New to triathlon. Last time I rode a bike was in my teens, so I am a complete newbie. Signed up here to learn more about bikes, and I think I am more confused than ever. Settled on a new Cervelo S2 despite my confusion. I will probably buy a mountain bike at some point as well. I also have a scuba diving problem. I sure don't have a shortage of expensive hobbies...
  25. More details. Please also look at bringing in some woman's tri suites and some other cycling kit (Coeur comes to mind). Our selection is pretty dismal imo.
