  1. Hopefully ? You must love that place ! Hope your boss isn't checking out this thread.
  2. How about shaving off all body hair ? (ALL !)
  3. So .... Mux and Fly, how much training do you think you guys will be getting done between January and the Argus ? I'm going to plan for my 2nd child to be born in late March or April. You gotta plan these things around cycling you know !
  4. More like the guy hanging on the back.
  5. Now that I know what you look like you will have to work out which one is me on Sunday. You'll just have to ask each guy until you find me .... like finding the fugitive. Clue: I'll be in orange and black kit !
  6. I spoke to Jonathan Kinnear on Sunday - he won the junior SA champs this year. He says that on average he does 500km a week. There are also top vets guys doing a max of 400km a week. So I think your mileage is way too high. You also seem to be tiring yourself out by riding too regularly. 10-12 hours between rides is not enough recovery time. Try to ride less (maybe discard the evening rides) and add intensity instead. Quality over quantity.
  7. Gasant the pace was pretty quick up Suikerbossie ..... but faster up Chappies ! I guess that most guys are pretty fit by now ... plus you get the ego factor. Generally the rides are very sedate on the flats but once it turns upwards the ego's kick in and it suddenly becomes a frenzy. Why don't you come and ride from Constantia this Sunday ?
  8. Gasant were you riding down Suikerbossie towards Sea Point on Sunday morning at about 8am ? Thought I saw you as we passed going the other direction.
  9. Bruce do hubbers get a discount ?

    Shoes

Foot widths, bridge heights, etc vary so much that some shoes just aren't made for some feet. I currently ride with DMT's and I find them and Time shoes to be the best fit for me. Still have all my toenails !

    Shoes

Token what make of shoes are they ? I bought a pair of North Wave a few years ago and I got incredible knee pain and swelling in my right knee. Eventually I realised that the shoes were too wide and it was touching the crank arm and causing my foot and knee to become angled. I sold them and the next guy had the same problem.
  12. E1A104 speaketh the truth. I am also no LA fan ... not anti-him .... just not a one-eyed Lance worshipper. The sock issue is one which is on my mind lately. What is it with long black socks ? It should be banned from cycling. And strangely enough it seems to be a trend which is growing amongst the elite riders. CVANC you don't wear long black socks do you ? If you do then stop immediately. In fact I might petition PPA to ban any rider who dares to wear knee-high black socks. Whatis the purpose ? Do they keep combs in there somewhere ? If you don't see pro riders wearing it, then don't wear it. And the resulting tan must look ridiculous.
  13. CVANC you are too young to know better. One day you will look back and realise the folly of your youth.
  14. Please don't tell me you actually believe Lance can win the Tour only 18 months after getting out of hospital on orange juice and energy bars. That he can destroy the likes of Heras, Landis, Hamilton, etc who have been caught using drugs (not to mention Ullrich, Basso, Mancebo, Millar, etc). Interesting how Discovery have never had a single rider test positive and yet within 2 years of leaving the team, Heras, Landis and Hamilton were all caught. One of the following statements is true; a)Lance Armstrong is the greatest athlete that has ever walked the face of planet earth. b) Lance Armstrong is the best cheat and liar in the history of any sport. We can all believe what we want. I believe in the latter ... maybe I'm just cynical. But I think not. I think that those who believe in the former statement are dreamers.
  15. I have heard that tubbies are far better than clinchers but in the 3 years since I started using Michelin racepro tyres I haven't had a single puncture. Personally I'll take any disadvantages the clinchers come with for the trade-off of not being stuck on the side of the road when puncturing.
  16. Yeah but I was referring to riders who DON'T use drugs.
  17. Big H brought up the fact that Shimano has the market share. Just guessing here but perhaps one of the reasons is that most of the bigger bike makes (which are non-Italian), Giant, Trek, etc are sold with Shimano. I would think this is because of production capacity. Campag is finely crafted so they cannot churn out as many groupsets as the mass-produced Shimano. So if Giant ask for 100 000 groupsets a year campag can't supply. Good things are rare.
  18. The dog's bollocks ..... The puppy's privates ...... The mutt's nuts ......
  19. "Breaking the Chain". A real eye-opener for those that haven't read it.
  20. Velo speaks the truth. Campy looks the bomb. As for drug use goofs, there are some riders that don't dope but they're near the back so you don't know who they are. Probably the best not to take drugs was Charly Mottet who came 4th on the TDf in the late 80's. Willy Voet was the guy from Festina who was caught with a car full of drugs. He wrote a book and spilled the beans on everybody but he said that Mottet was completely against drugs - and it would have been impossible for Mottet to have taken drugs without the other riders and team members knowing. So I guess it it possible to do well without drugs but it's incredibly rare.
  21. Widget I believe they did ride with the Liberty development team too.
  22. You rode with Pedro ?
  23. Delgado rode campag too !
  24. Depends on budget but if you want to be near the start/finish you can try the City Lodge or the Holiday Inn. Both are within easy walking distance of the Waterfront and less than 1km from the Argus start.
