  1. Due to allergies I can't (well, shouldn't) eat wheat or dairy. Only 100% rye bread and rice milk (which tastes good) instead of cows milk. At first it's a real hassle but the milk thing is no problem. Most of the time I can't be fussed to get rye bread as it's not sold everywhere. I think it's been over a month since I had any. I eat wheat-free pasta but not often. The lack of carbs has not affected me on the bike but I have lost weight. For someone trying to lose weight I would suggest limiting the intake of bread.
  2. Amazing how different people's tastes are. I think speedplay pedals look cheap and flimsy and I don't like the look of time pedals. The look of Look's is better than the chucking of wood by woodchuck !
  3. Thanks Lamb. Yes I think the noise factor is an important one. Does it have different resistance levels ?
  4. I'm interested in getting an indorr trainer but not rollers - something I an use without having to concentrate. Any advice as to which make/model is best ?
  5. Sure in some rides there is insufficient space but just looking at this incident - the pictures that were taken of the guys crossing the line on Hels. Plenty of space.
  6. Popeye you're such a strong road rider. Stop messing around with the MTB stuff.
  7. But what is wrong with the solution that if you break the rules you get disqualified ? The size of the group did not warrant full road closure so that "solution" would have other knock-on effects reagrding traffic, costs, etc and would be only be because those concerned refuse to abide by the same laws as the rest. Possibly a strange analogy but cyclists keep taking drugs so instead of continuing to ban those that are caught taking drugs maybe an alternate solution should be found ?
  8. I understand what you're saying but you need to bear in mind what the purpose of the PPA is. It's to facilitate cycling for all. The lower seeded guys are also trying to hang on behind guys that are stronger than them. They are suffering to the same degree and it's just as tempting to cross the middle line to get some "assistance" even though there's no money or points involved. But generally they seem more respectful of the rules. The tactics you mention should not come before the rules ... or your own safety for that matter.
  9. So Token only you guys are racing ? Talk about being blinkered. There are guys all the way down to Z group and beyond who are racing. Just because there is no prize money and no race points at stake lower down does not mean you are superior. Without everyone to make up the numbers there would probably be insufficient funds to have the race at all. Certainly less interest .... and sponsors of races would fall away.
  10. On Minki it looked more perky. On the Rock .... sick.
  11. Sorry but am I the only one that thinks it looks like Rock has a left breast ? It's sagging there behind his knee ! GROSS !
  12. It's all fine and well saying you don't care about seeding ..... until someone gets hit head on by a car. You say you want to stay with the guys to enjoy the race. If you find riding on the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic whilst ruining cyclings reputation for the rest of us, enjoyable, then maybe you should take up another sport. You may not care 2 sh*ts about seeding but riding like that causes more motorists to think that cyclists are idiots who don't respect road rules.
  13. Maybe the guy on the Colnago was just stressed from living in Gautengaleng. Us Capies are more relaxed.
  14. Look it'll probably cost you R10 000 to save another 1kg. Give me R2000 and I'll cut off 3 toes from each foot. You should still be able to walk reasonably OK and you'll save R8000 !
  15. You do get to a point where the extra time is just not worth the gain in performance (well for me it's not worth it). For example, I can train 230km a week and do a 2:58 Argus time. If I increase my training to 400km a week I have to spend an additional 6 hours a week on the bike. And that would get me ... ? ... a 2:53 Argus time ? Just not worth the sacrifice of family time for me. But everyone has different priorities.
  16. Sweet Bikemonster !
  17. Went out this morning and had one of those days where you just don't feel in "the zone". The legs are feeling a bit pap and you after a few km's you have a feeling that maybe you shouldn't be out on the road. On days like that is it good to just push through or is it better to just head back home and go back to bed ? Is there a benefit for pushing on or is your body trying to tell you to just get more rest ?
  18. Or if you don't want to part with 20K for he Bora's you can get a set of HED Jets which look just as good and will save you about 15K. http://www.hedcycling.com/wheels/jet50.php
  19. And no carbon chainring ? No, no ....
  20. Ksyrium's are so naf.
  21. Thanks Bikemax. When discussing HED or Zipp, the HED's certainly have a price advantage. http://www.racycles.com/wls/catalog/hed_stinger_60__both__4075751.htm
  22. What depth are the 404's ? 60mm ? So Bikemax, you're saying that anything less deep than the 404's is not giving a real aero advantage ?
  23. You do get some makes of deep sections that are not ridiculously expensive. A set of Bora's is about R20K and they weigh just over 1300g. You can get a pair of Pro-Lite Gavia's for under R7000 and they weigh 1400g. Still a lot more money than a power meter.
  24. The benefit of looking supercool.
  25. I'm fairly new to tandem racing and I'm learning fast that it can be an extremely uncomfortable experience. At first I thought it was the saddle but now I realise that it's the muscles in the lower buttocks that get worked over big time. Anyone know what causes that. Is it that you're sitting for longer periods ? Are there any veteran tandem riders who can offer advice on how to make the ride more comfortable. Or do you just get used to it over time ?
