  1. Try out William's bike shop in Somerset West. The workshop expertise are second to none.
  2. The main mistake here was that there was a lack of info during the entry process. It should have been stated that there would be no organised water points. For league races it is just understood that you will have your own support (this does not help a new comer who doesn't know what to expect). Quite often the format of these races is a shorter lap and then you have a wife/friend at the start/finish who can hand over a bottle when needed. The other mistake is that you must stay with a group in this type of racing or you will be too slow and will battle to finish. The main thing is that you are okay. I hope this doesn't put you off permanently, try one of the lap format races in the future. They are a lot of fun.
  3. Watching the dots is one of the highlights on my race calendar. Even better than grand tours as there are no rest days and you can check on your favourite dot 24 hours a day and chances are it will have moved. The only sad thing is when the dots get lost and shouting at your screen for them to turn back doesn't seem to help.
  4. We as membership holders can't get past the payment process. I'm sure on the day everything will be correct. Paying on the website is where the problem lies. There is no option one can select that will allow one to enter with a membership only. All options currently require the entrant to have a full racing license. I am sure this is just a website error but it stops all categories except elite and junior from entering. Unless of course you feel like paying to upgrade your membership to a racing license.
  5. I'm going to enter on Friday at registration because the website won't allow other categories to enter without a full racing license. I asked CSA and this was the reply. "When you racing under elite or junior you require a full racing licence , so if you chose all other category you will need a full racing licence"
  6. Every other road race of the year I'm seeded in $ but when CTCT comes around I drop to the next group. Besides getting a top 10 there isn't much more I can do to be seeded better. So I was just wondering if they expect more payment to ride in $. This year I'm over trying to be fast, going to drop back to 2F and ride with mates.
  7. I was going to say its not selling cause of the brake setup.
  8. You only want to see your max HR during training / strava hunting or a short event such as a TT. If you are able to stay at your max for more than a few seconds then you are either ill or are lying to yourself about your real max HR. Its definitely easier to hit a higher HR on a trainer. Mine is 187 out doors and 190 indoors.
  9. I made a mission out to Ceres on Saturday to meet up with some of the Munga riders. Some were in good shape and others were like zombies. I still can't believe what they put themselves through. I only rode 178km and felt pretty tired after all the heat and headwinds. Here is a link to a short video of my trip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6PjcutTNkc and a Relive video of my route: https://www.relive.cc/view/792472703 I followed Kevin Benky for his final 100kms. I was very careful not to interfere with him e.g give him a slip or water or any type of assistance that may jeopardise his Munga but it was amazing to talk to him and hear about his experiences.
  10. Hi, Back in April I was having a great time riding on Helderberg trails with buddies and then suddenly Hurricane claimed another victim. I decided it was time to give up the "Anthem is a trailbike dream", I removed the dropper and fat tyres and started planning... Today I have come to Post my Pyga: The couch photo: (Previous owner's couch, thanks Nigel) The paintwork was in a bad way, scuffs and chips allover, I am the 3rd owner after all. I just love the finish on the early OneTens with the raw clearcoat so I set about removing the paint. Dodgy bearings replaced and all back together. Mattoc on loan from the LBS (thanks Will) Finished it off with 1x10 (34 x 11-36) drivetrain and whatever I could scrape together raound the garage. After a run down Helderberg the next day it was obvious the 720mm bars had to go and the gearing was quite taxing uphill so I ordered an oval ring and riser bars from Rapide. The rear is pretty much dialled but I'm yet to get the Mattoc exactly how I want it. Vinyl decals and wheels to follow shortly.
  11. With a lot of commitment and commuting through the cape flats to work. No time spent in traffic gives you a lot more time to love your bike.
  12. This would actually be a three-peat but we'll have to wait and see how the judges rule on Vinnige Fanie. Shout out to the girls who dominated this year. Also I'd be nothing without my wife's support and she even joined me for a few rides this year.
  13. Bikehub will scrutinise all the winners rides and will come to a fair decision. It's easy to sling mud and be a sore loser. So in the final days I'm going to keep riding as hard as I can regardless and let the judges do the adjudicating. I've been amazed at the support from fellow cyclists friends and strangers alike, its been an honour to ride with you all. Ham!
  14. I honestly can't remember. I was fascinated by them a while back, I was amazed at their long necks, fluffy coats and weird behaviour. I even went to visit them at the alpaca loom on Suid-Agter-Paarl Road.
  15. Edit: What Admin said. I just think its cool that someone has come up with a competition where you don't have to like and share their facebook page or hashtag & tag them in a selfie.
  16. Well I did come 3rd overall in the W2W Ride 2015, so I'm not totally useless on a MTB. Sadly I don't have enough to win the challenge this year, Fanie is putting in some truly scary rides and most of them are hidden for the past week. His 9th sept totalled 228km (last unhidden rides). As I said before, I have my own goal and I'll stick to the plan. The Ham Plan!
  17. Etnard is quite aware of what is going on, he is on his own mission which is cool. Fanie Stofberg has made some of his rides private, why just this morning he released one from the 8th of September I think. I'm just keen to do my own thing with my own goal in mind without having a target on my back. I'll join when I'm good and ready. I'm not hiding, my account is not locked and my rides aren't private. P.S. I didn't even try to wheelsuck you on Saturday morning when you came past and now you rat me out in hublic. So mean P.P.S I think the most exciting thing this year is the woman's category. Its amazing to see what the girls can put down when given a chance to show their stuff.
  18. Silverback Sesta Pro but its more of a XC/Stage race bike. http://www.silverbacklab.com/bike/mountain/sesta-pro/
  19. Here is Chrerie Redecker's (formally Vale) strava page: https://www.strava.com/athletes/11802666 Get in there and give her some kudos and much needed support. She will be racing the World cup XCO in La Bresse, France this weekend.
  20. The RSA men are ranked 11th (according to http://www.uci.ch/mountain-bike/ranking/ ) You must look at Olympic qualification (2015/2016) not just 2016 cross country ranking. In the mens, teams ranked from 6-13 may send 2 athletes. So RSA can send 2 men.
  21. Mariske was injured much of 2015 but is still ranked 60th (530) regardless of the off time, Cherie did her best to score points and is currently 30th (812). ZA ladies have a total of 3155 points so between the two of them they have earned moving towards half all the points. There isn't much more they could have done besides Mariske not being injured which isn't something that could be avoided. Other woman really needed to come to the party with points but its obviously not a priority for them to see a ZA lady at the Olympics.
  22. The girls can't goto Rio because: a) South Africa won the continental quotas in men's and women's mountain bike, but decided not to accept them. South African sports confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) and Cycling South Africa (CSA) made an agreement on the Rio 2016 Olympics qualification criteria that the Continental Qualification route will not be considered. b)This is for Woman specifically: Countries ranked from 1 to 8 can take 2 athletes to Rio. teams ranked from 9 to 17 can take 1 athlete to Rio. South Africa is currently ranked 21st giving us 0 Rio spots. So because we forfeited our continental quotas no woman athletes will be going to Rio for XCO.
