  1. I just started training again after 20 years off the bike . I bought a MTB and will soon be going off road to get the real benefit and enjoyment of off road riding . My concern after reading some of the threads about riders being attacked and having their bikes and possessions stolen is what is ones best weapon (?not a fire arm ) to have with you and were would you hide it . Im sure its been discussed before but im not able to go through all the threads .
  2. Keep it up RS i need a forum buddy to compare notes with . We seem to be about the same in weight and ride ability . One thing in my favour is i dont drink alcohol at all . Im also trying to stay away from fizzy drinks ( Coke Zero ) is what i enjoy when its hot . Dont waste money on a dietitian they only tell you what you are already doing . Good luck .
  3. How do i change the threads to read the last post first as i now have to page to the last page to get the latest post on that thread . I have gone through the settings and cant find if there is a setting . .
  4. In 1985 i was 125 kg (33 years old ) and started cycling again . It took me 18 months of serious daily training 60 km per day and lost 45 kg to get down to a racing weight of 80 kg and then raced in the vets being 35 years old . I also had the ring around my gut and needed to loose that as well . My sons are all swimmers and played water polo so training with them was easy as i had to take them to the pool anyway . After a few weeks i was swimming between 800 and a 1000 m 3 times a week . The Belly Fat was gone and i lost another 5 kg . I stayed at that weight for 12 years and then slowly lost interest and put it all back again . I have now started cycling and gym again and will swim in the summer as well as i have a 12.5 m pool at home so no need to leave home .
  5. Im glad i found this thread as i was going to ask some of the already answered questions . I bought my MTB 2 months ago and have only been riding on the road /some grass and sand pavements to get used to the sensation of off road riding . I started off at 122 kg doing only 10 km a day at least 5 times a week . I kept my food intake to a minimum and started losing slowly . Im now up to 25 km per day 6 times a week but still have not ventured proper off road . ( Ill do that when i hit the 100 kg mark with my old cycling buddies who are all MT bikers now due to roads being to dangerous ) . I changed my food intake very simply by cutting out all white foods ,rice ,potatoes , bread , sugar , salt and any form of snack , crisps , sweets or any thing wrapped bought from a shop . I weighed in yesterday after my ride at 116 kg , a loss of 6 kg in two months . I am now doing a 30 minute session in my gym at home ( Trojan Meridian offers everything ) and then i spin down on a spinning bike for about 15 minutes doing 110 cadence with no resistance . I set my goal on being 100 kg by end of December and riding a MTB ride ( not race ) in January 2018 .
  6. I last cycled 20 years ago and have recently started again . I know the community was smaller back then but being friendly to other cyclist on the road was what we did . When i come across cyclists coming in the opposite direction i always greet and raise my hand as a gesture . What i have found in the past 2 months is that very few acknowledge this and blatantly ignore me . Am i just old school or are those cyclists just to stuck up to greet a fellow bikey .
  7. I eventually settled on a Ghost AMR Lector 2978 medium from with Fox Evolution front and Fox Boostvalve rear shock . Group set is Shimano XT with a Richley front extension and wide Ryder bars . Rims are Volar tubeless with Fast Track tyres and XT Deore hubs . I put my Look road pedals on as im still training on the road in my area but it does have ShimanoXT pedals . I cannot believe how smooth a ride this is compared to a retro style (Colnago ) i rode . Luckily i still have all my riding gear although some are way to small so i just make do with what fits . Im up to 25 km per day at a average of 22 kph . I have a small Cyclo Computer that i fitted and it gives me enough info to be able to gauge my fitness .
