  1. Blihsem that sounds great . I have ny bought ice cream in 6 months , so i have a real craving for it . Ill treat myself on Sunday if i hit the 100 kg mark .
  2. Water melon im sure has a lot of sugar but i dont have sugar in any form . I eat 3 fruits a day which includes a big slice of water melon nightly .
  3. My mid week weigh in this morning after a good 65 km ride in the farms on the East Rand . My goal for end of Jan is 100 kg so im well on my way . . Going to have a slice of water melon not lemon cake that my wife baked .
  4. That is a commendable achievement . Well done . I am now at the same point as you with my weight and goal . Do you have a diet that you follow and what kind of training do you do ? Open the spread sheet and enter your details and save it .
  5. Did a 20km ride at 3.30 this afternoon with the temp sitting at 35 deg. After 5 km my feet were on fire in my shoes from the heat off the the black tar . Luckily i ride a short circuit going past my house so i stopped and soaked my shoes with the hose . I managed to complete my other 15km without stopping again . Out of curiosity i weighed myself and was at 101 .8.kg .I might have to adjust my goal weigh for end Jan but for know it looks like ill make my 100kg .
  6. Yip im always up for a bargain . Fish has become more affordable than meat nowadays . Sharing is caring . We go weekly to The Rebel Farmers Store in Benoni and buy our veg and fruit there . They have daily specials so you need to be selective , it also means that you never end up with the same basket of foods .
  7. We did a 70 + km ride this morning through the fields and koppies around Bredel and Benoni AH . The going was tough because of the overgrown grass on the single track and we got lost a few times and had to track back through un ridden veld even sometimes venturing onto the farmers fields to be able to stay up right with some momentum for the climb ahead . By 9 the temperature in some valleys between the mealies was 36c . I punctured and set off on a safer route for home . It was a slow puncture and i could not find it so i stopped to pump 4 times in the last 20 km . The slime didnt help as it was a small thorn on the side wall . Plugged it when i ran the wheel in the pool while cooling off .As you know i always weigh in on a Saturday and i was 101.6kg this morning . A bit behind my planned target but a little bit more discipline on meals and training and im well on my way again . I see a lot of you have developed your own diet regime much like me , this i find easier because if you have a cheat you dont feel that bad because its not on the list of "donts " . Stick to what works for you and adjust as you get to know the wrong foods or drinks for you . Below my breakfast one morning this week . Toasted rye bread , cheese , gherkins , onions and tomato with a cup of black tea ( been drinking black for 40 years )
  8. Im a cyclist and petrol head at the same time . I never know which i prefer .Here is a pic of my daily drive and some of the cars i have bought and exported to the UK .
  9. Well done . Stay in the saddle and add in a a few km to your training every month until you feell comfortable doing it at max pace , try beating your best time on the same course or distance at least once a week . The saddle becomes part of your anatomy as you lose weight HAHA . My advice is dont attempt a organised race until you hit the 99kg mark . As long as you training regularly with riders fitter than you and staying with them on longer rides and hills you are improving . Spinning can be done on the bike on the road . Stay on the inside chain ring ( small ) and dont change below the 6th or 7th sprocket on the rear and spin your legs on one or two of your training rides weekly . It hurts at first but knocks the weight off your legs quickly .
  10. Im always keen to compare notes and methods . I post my results on this purely for motivation to myself https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/168301-my-weightloss-challenge/ .I started cycling again 6 months ago after 20 years off the bike . Start weight was 124kg and currently 102.6 kg with my goal set for 100kg by end of December
  11. I ride out there . Tell us what happened .
  12. I was a Castle Lager drinker until the 95 Rugby world cup when SAB could not keep up with demand . it was brewed at night and delivered during the day( the taste was horrible ) I changed to Windhoek Lager or draft and stuck with that for about 12 years . I then had an operation and got a bad infection i picked up in the theater and was on strong medication to fight it . I was told not to drink any alcohol until the course of medication was finished . I still wanted to watch rugger with my mates and enjoy the camaraderie so i changed to Becks or Bavaria non alcohol beers . I have not drank a beer with alcohol since . Going to a pub and drinking 5 beers and then driving home is a breeze not having to worry about road blocks and being harassed by the Sector pub watching , bribe wanting cops . I believe a beer while on a social ride wont affect your ability to finish the ride .
  13. The substation was struck by lightning yesterday so we are without power and running on our own generators at night . Spent all day on flood damaged sights with our crews so i have not had a chance to go into my garage and get the snifters out . Hopefully tomorrow i get a gap and ill send it down .
  14. Yip thats what they fit onto . Ill box them for you and send down and let you know when and were to collect .
  15. I have a pair of Suntour levers that fit onto the frame ( not the bracket type ) You are welcome to have them . I can send them down to my branch in Killarney when stock goes down .
  16. Welcome . I am a seasoned bikey (65 ) and started again after a lay off of 20 years . I lam also in Boksburg ( Witfield ) and ride daily in my area (20Km ) and Saturday and Sunday i do 30km around OR Tambo leaving home at 7am . Feel free to join me . Rudy 08tree 628nil487
  17. .Yes you are right they did control under command of LA but some of the attacks when all members were done was really what i was referring to . CF (Sky } have refined that form of racing .
  18. He was entertaining to watch in The Tour . Not like today's CF who totally rely s on a team . Sure LA also had them but he had the guts to attach at any stage of the race .
  19. Will a Helicoil not work as a quick fix . http://www.ebay.com/bhp/helicoil-kit . I have done many motor repairs with them and never had a break down with those parts again .
  20. Thanks yip i enjoyed those bikes . especially my RIH with full Campage in those days . Im glad you recognized the Gordini its my all time non muscle car favourite . I never owned one but im looking to buy one for a customer but they are as scarce as hens teeth and cost from R250K up for an original matching numbers model .
  21. Yip i loved the old steel frames , Reynolds Tubing or Columbus SLX they were the bikes to have . Only ever broke one frame in nearly 25 years of racing on them . Repairs could only be done by real specialized frame builders or you scraped it and upgraded to a newer model or make . My first good frame was a Dutch manufacturer called RIH ( that is the one i broke , hit a car from behind going down Queen Str ) . My last road bike was a Colnago with Shimano Dura Ace group set . I did thousands of kilometers on it and eventually sold it to a collector of steel frame Colmago's
  22. I went for my first off road ride with my old cycling buddy from the road days . we did 32 km of which half was off road though the fields behind Glen Marais along Dan Rd ( There is a fenced off area with a circuit on it ) and the Pomona area . and back to Atlasville . My average was 21 kph which is what i have been averaging on my training rides daily so im quite happy with my progress since June when i started doing 10 km daily around my area . No pic of me riding but a pic of my Ghost after i had washed and polished it .
  23. Recently bought and enjoying it
  24. I raced a Colnago Columbus Tubing with Dura Ace Group set for many years and would not want to ride any other frame .
