  1. Define "solvent". If it is a degreaser and you get it into the hub it could easily strip out all the grease. If it's dishwashing liquid it will be OK though.
  2. Well, there are loads of tests on the internet, but I find that the best way is to look at your hr history to find it and also to push yourself to the absolute max on a ride. Sprinting until you feel like you are going to fall off the bike usually produces the goods! You have to be properly warmed up though otherwise you might not get your hr up that high. Also remember that max HR is sport specific (well, that's what the 'experts' say), so do it on the bike. Have a look at this article for a nice test: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/cms/article-detail.asp?articleid=53
  3. Not sure how the Polar does it for you, but that formula is just a wild guess. Wouldn't trust it at all. I regularly hit peaks above 190 and guess my max to lie around 200,but according to your Miller time I should have a max of 181. Go out and do a max HR test to really know. It hurts, but it's fun to know!
  4. How did you determine your max? Sounds like it could be higher, but like bikemonster says, it's just a number.... Rather ask what your normalised power should be. That's much more exciting!
  5. OK, but I still think cbrunsdon need more sympathy with his current failure to fork...
  6. Why?
  7. You win hands down! Nobody is gonna top this story. Good luck
  8. 10kg's with SRAM Force on it?! Mamma mia, is it steel?
  9. What, colonel left? Didn't even know one is allowed to. I known others who have tried and failed miserably... For the record; fand started a Lance thread only yesterday, so there might still be life left in the bugger!
  10. SwissVan's here to save the thread! Morning and fire away!!! (someone go and call colonel and fand!)
  11. LOL! What you doing here?! Nope, he's at school and I'm going to press the button on the beans-to-espresso machine that mr Douwe Egberts has kindly placed in the hall for the bigwigs to use. I'm not one, but I do my bit to fight for equality! One cup at a time...
  12. He's in the wrong hemisphere. Needs to post in the North. We need "witner" coats up here...
  13. on a roadbike it makes no difference as the shifters are the intelligence and the derailleur "dumb". I put 10-speed STI's on my old 9-speed bike and it worked perfectly. Would think mtb dr would be the same?
  14. I have mixed feelings about Lance being busted. On the one hand you know he's guilty, but on the other hand you know it's gonna suck when he's found guilty because there would be nothing left to discuss. A bit like someone proving PowerBands are just plastic bracelets or that OJ really did it. Obvious, but much more fun when there's a bit of doubt left...
  15. All you legal experts out these need to take notice that this is a "federal grand jury". Way, waaaaaaaay different to a normal court. Different rules and they allow much wider evidence and apply different rules to what is admisable or not. Go and do some investigating... (PS Thanks for starting a Lance thread. This Friday was kinda boring, but I'll go and get some fresh coffee before this heats up!)
  16. Geez, what are you, a bodybuilder? That's one heavy frame you have
  17. What innovation are they refering to exactly? I struggle to find it...
  18. I have the pre-2010 Force on one bike and Shimano 105 on the other (similar shape to Ultegra) and I like both! The Shimano hoods are nicer as they are narrower and the transition from bar to hood is smooth. Force has a bulky bit where it meets the bar. Shifting is a personal choice. SRAM works, but remember not not try and downshift if you are in you lowest gear, because the release will then make you inadvertantly upshift! Shimano works, so no functional need to move. SRAM works very well too. I have both. I'm happy
  19. Maybe the one leads to the other? Sort of like reverse evolution...
  20. I always wear my booties when it rains and have a set for road and a worn set for mtb. The reason behind it is they keep your shoes clean!!! The shoes might get wet, but I don't have to clean them after every wet ride and I just hose of my booties before taking them off. Plus here in Europe it gets cold. Real cold, so booties become more than just a fashion statement.
  21. Rode the "Boogies Extreme" ride in Limburg on Saturday with PokerFace and Dutchman. 1800m of climbing on the border between Holland and Belgium. who said Holland was flat? Had a great time riding all the classic climbs of the Amstel Gold Race.
  22. Indeed. One of my pet gripes with Polar SA. Here in Holland I have a local watch shop that is authorised by Polar to change batteries on watches and sensors. I drop it off and pick it up an hour later. Perfect for an espresso stop. Polar SA should really do something like that in Cape Town. Way overdue!
  23. Yip, I would love to know how they sorted that one out! Hope they had a camera on the line. What were the official results for SV?
  24. ShortLegs in the break?! I never would have guessed ;-) STEVE!!! Nice to see the Strandlopers having fun
  25. Love this pic!
