  1. Thanks for this Johan. Any engineer hubbers able to confirm/refute the calculations? It's a looong time since I was in physics class
  2. I'm of pommy descent: I drink warm beer Actually what I meant to say is my acceleration should be good because I always ride with my nipples tucked away. Jules2008-11-28 05:58:59
  3. Ja, my beer is getting cold and the cat's eyeing my biltong! Also, there is some vital information missing from your calculations such as whether the day is overcast or not, the wind speed and direction and whether the nipples are plain silver or anodized pink
  4. I'm on the sidelines with my beer and biltong This is an interesting debate and I'm not sure I know the answer. I'd think of it as spinning a merry-go-round with a large weight on the outside and then repeating the procedure with the weight on the inside. Surely it would take less force to accelerate the merry-go-round with the weight on the inside? That said, I ride relatively heavy wheels with an aluminium braking surface and my nipples on the outside and I don't feel at all disadvantaged by them.
  5. JB, BG and I are gonna ride Sunday. Maybe you can get those rims from me then?
  6. kiwi posted something about this earlier. I reckon you should get aluminium braking surface. The weight difference is not much and if it means a lot to you then you should probably be riding tubbies anyway. And think of the hassles you'll save with brake pads.
  7. Who won?
  8. I'm gonna be in PE (Sea View) around 15th December. Would love to do this ride.
  9. As it is in the picture, I'd say anything up to R4 500. I reckon if you paid more than R5k it's too much.
  10. Very nice. I would strongly recommend Cycle Art, especially if the paint is damaged like you say. Do you have any idea on the colour and scheme? Please also let us know about the rolls saddle. No old steel bike is complete without one!
  11. Even your dog looks embarrassed Enjoy your new steed, BigH - hope you and M have many happy rides.
  12. A Raleigh?! With Sh1tmano?! Wonders will never cease!
  13. Other teams are still abseiling out the pot holes
  14. Your shpongles notwithstanding, Nancy Drew?
  15. I'm told that bibs aren't as important for women as they are for men. This is because the females have hips to prevent the shorts sliding down. I think most men will agree that once we've gone bibs we don't go back, which might lead us to believe that the same applies for women... Nevertheless, the quality womens' shorts seem to be mostly bib anyway?
  16. Ja that Planet-X stuff is incredibly good value.
  17. They look nice and the price is cheap but I don't think they're built as well as some of the competing brands. I know a few Equinox wheel riders and I don't hear them raving about their wheels. Still, if you're on a budget and have your heart set on carbon rims, there are not too many options besides Equinox.
  18. They're both good. I'd go for the cheapest. If they're the same price I'd take the Looks.
  19. Looks fast
  20. Colnago Master Olympic Art Decor. Not a scratch on the frame. Took possession yesterday. Also have a steel GT Peace 9er.
  21. i did mine this afternoon, worked perfectly
  22. Always interesting but I've often wondered how these tests apply to practical riding. In road races you have someone in front of you 90% of the time, giving you a nice slipstream. I would wager that this reduces the effect of fancy aero components.
  23. You should know....cause you've had to do that test a few times after a ride nope used to work in a bike shop that imported bikes remember ride aluminium too broke to afford carbon insurance!!!!! Silly me: I thought you did that to avoid being labelled a ponce by Mampara i dont mind being labelled a ponce carbon is pretty but the best part about me riding alu is that when i ride away from rich boys in the morning training bunch they dont have an excuse!!!! Agreed: there is something very satisfying about kicking the butt of someone riding an insanely expensive bike
