  1. If you don't want to donate it, and couldn't be bothered to repair it, put it on the Hub for sale, possibly as spares. It's bound to be worth something.
  2. Dunno about that but I put new springs in my Record shifters for well under R100. They shift as well as the day I bought them.
  3. Can you blame them? It's Shimano. Hence disposable. Chuck away and buy a new one Jokes aside, the bike shops can't easily bypass Coolheat because they need them for little things. Also, I don't think Solomons bypasses agents. They are able to give good deals because they buy up old stock from agents at bargain prices. It says something about the cycling mentality that a certain part, which may even work better than a newer part, sells for half the price because it's a bit dated.
  4. Seems there is going to be a lot of shopping online and in the 2nd hand market this year.
  5. The answer is above
  6. And it's the best chance you have of getting to ride with Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
  7. Come ride ICG if you want a good morning ride. Total garage in Illovo Tues to Friday at 5am. We ride quite a bit in the linden area.

  9. Hub is not letting me upload pics get this message: Error Only members with sufficient permission can access this page.
  10. Just to prove to Nancy that we did eventually go on a (semi) Hardcore ride. As IanJ says, it was only XX, not XXX . http://www.facebook.com/photopid=5248949&l=4b368&id=868120640 Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee and epoh at the cradle. 11. Those Lew wheels look amazing. I e-mailed the dude who brings them in to ask about a price. This was before the rand went for a ball of !#@$ and the answer I got was very But honestly, turtle: what difference can a sticker make? They say a not-so-smooth surface is good for aerodynamics hence the dimples on golf balls and the fuzz on tennis balls.
  12. I don't think it will be that long. I think the plan is to go in the one entrance, do the big hill, and go out the other entrance. So it won't be a full lap. I've done this ride once before with Christoff (before he was famous) and it worked out to about 160km from Edenvale.
  13. Here are some pics from last year's Hard Core Ride.
  14. That's a good price, Para. I was at Northcliff on Sunday and Alex was telling me how Shimano agents have put all their prices up so probably a good idea to buy the old stock. I can get 9spd casettes on CRC for R300 but that is before VAT and postage. As for the vacume cleaner, I said LESS than R4k. This was to avoid the recommendation of insanely expensive vacume cleaners, like Kirby, which can fetch more than R10k!
  15. Haha, thanks DR, but only the short distance ones. Not only do you get to answer "yes" to the "have you won a race?" threads, but the economics make a lot of sense too: race entries are cheaper, chances of prize money greater, and the races are short, furious and fun.
  16. I've noticed that fees for road races are quite expensive these days. I'm looking at doing the Fast One and the Herald and they are R165 and R170 respectively. I tend to prefer road to MTB but I'm going to consider doing more MTB races if this is what we can expect to pay for all road races. I guess MTB is cheaper because you don't have to pay for traffic officers and there is slightly less bureaucracy.
  17. I think the most common cause of squealing brakes is water contamination in the pads. It might go away after heavy breaking or you could try filing them? Otherwise your rotor might be out of true.
  18. Did mine recently. I know it doesn't apply to you, but the one in Loveday is "temporarily closed". I ended up going to Edenvale. Took me all of 2,5 hours although might have been faster if I'd got there earlier. The drivers licence centre is a fancy new building, but it was on a skeleton staff when I was there. Amazingly the staff where not entirely unfriendly, lazy or incompetent. There just weren't enough of them. Tip: go with a baby in a pram. Worked wonders for the woman who jumped the 1hr queue.
  19. Why no caffeine in yours?
  20. Well done Baie Sukkel!
  21. Ah didn't get that, JB. I have attached the bike to my indoor trainer and will try ride it off. Will give up after three hours
  22. Thanks Summit, what can I expect to pay for one of those?
  23. Bwahahaha, that's thinking in the box!
  24. Actually there wasn't a washer. I suspect that the thread was not in excellent shape to begin with (this is a bike I've just bought, don't know the history). The cranks are not worth that much so I guess it's not too much of a disaster, although it does break the groupset, which I was hoping to sell on another bike Any idea how I'd remove the BB with the crank still attached? It would be easier if it were an external BB. I'm thinking of attacking the crank with a grinder... Jules2008-12-05 10:39:26
