  1. The cycling gods were on my side today: On the fast descent to Misty Cliffs, guy next to me told me to shift to the small ring at the front. I had no idea what he was on about until I looked down and noticed my chain had dropped off and was hanging down around my pedal. Shifted to small chain ring and it popped back on! Learnt something new today. If he hadn't said anything I probably would have stopped to sort the chain out. A huge thank you to the guy in red with the skull and crossbones cycling shirt Broke a spoke, after the finish line Did a PB of 3:24
  2. I rode the trail today. Dropped in at the bottom of Silverhurst and headed south. Missed a sign on Spaanschemat Road so did a bit of a loop on tar but eventually found the trail again. Went as far as the Keysers River trail head, I assume this is as far south as it goes? I then did the trail in reverse. Turned around at the top of the steep bit at Bel Ombre Meadow. Does it go any further than this? Really enjoyed the trail. Great signage and a great workout. Will definitely be riding it at least once or twice a week. A huge thank you to all that were involved in its inception.
  3. Thanks Myles and capediver. Going to give it a go later this week! I had every intention of trying it out today. I prepared all my gear last night and put my bike on the bike rack. I was about halfway to work this morning when I realized that i forgot my gear bag at home....
  4. I'm keen on doing a lunchtime ride because I work in the area. I dont know the area too well though so would appreciate some tips or guidance. If I were to park at the Virgin Active gym, do I just make my way to Peddlers via the road or is there another entrance point to the greenbelt trail network? And then do I just follow the trail? Is there signage?
  5. Hi I'm camping near Robertson this weekend and taking my MTB. Anyone know of any trails around Robertson? I read that there is a trail network that starts at the Gospel Express by Vink Rivier train station? This is about 7 KMs from the campsite so would be very convenient.

  7. Well done! Were they riding through Dunoon?
  8. I'm quite chuffed that our team made the Coronation DC Facebook page. Must be the striking baby blue kit we were wearing My third DC for Group Five and my most enjoyable yet. We were a bunch of colleagues of varying ability but great team work and camaraderie ensured we got the Charles Milner medal we wanted in 8:43. Even though we got soaked and it was freezing on one or two of the descents, I still prefered the weather to the heat and wind of previous years. Event of the year!
  9. Hi Y'All I bought a Knog Blinder rear light from takelot.com in August on their 'Daily Deals' promo. I had read that they were great lights but the strap broke easily. I refused to believe it, but I should have because my strap has just broken Luckily it broke when my bike was at home, not out on a ride. It must have just snapped, because I found it on the floor next to my bike. It didnt happen while I was taking it off or putting it on. Anyway, anyone dealt with Knog warranties before? Do I just take it back to takealot and let them deal with it? Quite disappointed because its and awesome little light, just a pity about the fixing strap. Anyone McGyvered these things with a more reliable strap?
  10. Anyone know if Killarney is on tonight? There's no info on the PPA website and I haven't received the weekly newsletter yet.
  11. My confidence on the trail has grown hugely since I put a Maxxis Ardent on the front.I don't see myself replacing it with anything else when it wears out. Agree that you must avoid Crossmarks on the front, but I imagine they would be fine on the rear. I am using a Continental X King on the rear, great grip and low rolling resistance but the sidewalls seem flimsy.
  12. Ok thanks, I'll try it without the stitching, what you said makes sense. And you figure I can use the tyre tubeless?
  13. I'll try this in combination with stitching the cut closed with gut. Actually going to pop into a Midas shortly to look for the gator and some sandpaper. Do I just ask for a 'Gator patch'? I've never bought one before.
  14. Mine isn't the Protection model but I don't think I'll buy Continental mtb tyres again. My Maxxis Ardent front tyre which I've had on the bike for much longer is basically bombproof as were the Bontragers that came standard on the bike. The Continental sidewall feels flimsy
  15. Sorry, uploaded the pic now, had issues doing it from my phone. The gash is less than 2 cm.
  16. So I'm camping near Greyton this last weekend. I get up super early to check out the Oewerzicht mtb trail. Less than 3 kays into the ride, I split my Continental X-King sidewall on a some shale. Luckily had a spare tube to get me home but that was the end of the ride because the tube was pushing through the gash. Doubly disappointing because the tyre was only a few months old. Anyway, my question is, looking at the attached picture, is it worth repairing the tyre or do just bite the bullet and fork out another R500 + for a new tyre? I've read about stitching the cut closed with dental floss and then using a piece of another tyre to patch the gash from the inside. I imagine that this would mean that I couldn't ride tubeless anymore?
  17. The first time I did the DC a few years ago as a fairly noob cyclist I had a veteran team mate take the absolute p!ss out of my 30t which he referred to as a 'satellite dish'. Needless to say I was less than sympathetic when I passed him on 170 kms after he had bonked.
  18. My colleague knew Dolf well and went to his funeral on the weekend. They suspect that Dolf had a heart attack on the bike which led to the accident. The saddest part is that he was shortly to retire and was going to spend his days travelling South Africa on his bike. He didn't get to realise his dream.
  19. RIP Dolf. A colleague of mine knew him well, they were riding friends and went to the same church. Apparently he misjudged a corner on his way to the start. These guys do an amazing job and it really angers me when I see cyclists arguing with them during races. I saw one idiot cyclist arguing with and pushing one of the bike marshals during the race at the West Coast Express last week. These guys are trying to keep us safe.
  20. He's a friend of mine. He's fine. The driver that he rode into was worse off.
  21. It was Eina before they added the 7 kms.
  22. I might not be able to make the race. What's the procedure for a substitution?
  23. One of the guys I rode with on Saturday lost his on the Cape Cobra. I gave him your number. Not sure if he is on the hub.
