  1. www.theoutriders.co.za Cater for all level of cyclists
  2. That's the happiest ending to any movie I've ever watched! Brought tears to my eyes.

  4. I've got a 42km entry for sale if anyone is interested. Buyer pays entry fee of R190 (early bird entry) and the R50 admin fee. Copied off the Dieburger website FAQs: 7. What if I enter but cannot take part? If you cannot take part, a substitution can be arranged at registration and you will need to find someone to take your entry. Please note: Your entry cannot be transferred to another event date. Please see substitution details below. Substitution must be done before entries close: 1. Send us an email before entries close along with a consent letter. 2. Complete an entry form 3. Pay R50.00 admin fee Remember: The substitute will be taking over your race number and therefore no change in distance or start group will be allowed! Please note: The original entrant will NOT be refunded his/her entry fee. You may ask the substitute rider to refund your entry fee, but you may not ask for more than you had originally paid. Contraventions may result in the disqualification of both parties. Please email info@dirtopia.co.za for further information.
  5. I would have enjoyed this event more if I didn't start cramping even before the 30 km mark. It turned into a long, muddy, painful ride for me. Cramped so badly that I wiped out twice. I also lost my sense of humour a bit when the climbing didn't end after 1400 metres and the extra 5 kms at the end. Great event nonetheless.
  6. Thanks, so it wont be a problem if I register before the start of the 40km (after the 70km has already started) and do the 40 km instead?
  7. Does anyone know if it is possible to change from the 70 km to the 40 km? Can it be done in the morning of the event at registration? And if so, do I need to do it before the start of the 70km?

    Tru Cape

My first Tru-Cape and it certainly wont be my last! Did the 50. Awesome trails. Lots and lots and lots of climbing, which slows us 'big boned boys' up considerably. I've done the TransBaviaans, 100 Miler, 24 Hours of Oak Valley and the Philadelphia mtb race but I must say this is the first event that I've felt like a proper mountain biker.
  9. Rest in Peace Fellow Rider. May your family find the strength to get through this difficult time.
  10. We had our car ferried last year and then we took turns driving back to Cape Town. It worked very well. If I remember correctly it cost about R300 for the service.
  11. A fat bike would have been perfect for this race with all the sand.
  12. The race was tougher than I expected. Maybe it's because I started cramping around halfway on the 63 KM and had to take it easier for the last 30 KMs . I think its probably because all the strenuous parts are in the first 15-20 KMs (The climbs, forest single-track and sandy bits) But what a great event! I'll definitely be back next year.
  13. Is registration at the event on the day?
  14. I have a set of entry level Avid DB1s on my Trek FS 29er, which I don't feel very confident about. My old 26er has a set of Magura Julies but they are probably over 10 years old. Is it worth putting the Julies on my newer bike? I've only started doing proper trail riding with my 29er. I used to ride the 26er a lot more tamely so cant really compare the 2 in terms of braking performance.
  15. Benvenuto a TheHubSA. Tutto bene? Welcome to the Hub Federico. I am assuming you are Italian (correct me if am wrong) I speak Portuguese but have many Italian friends. My 3 most beautiful mtb rides: Transbaviaans, 24 Hour Oak Valley, Die Burger
  16. Great event. My first road race since I broke my collarbone back in October. The marshalling through Durbanville was a bit suspect, we almost went down the wrong road because the marshalls and police were not clear with their directions. I was disgusted with the amount of cyclists who thought it okay to chuck their Gu wrappers on the route! No consideration.
  17. +1 for Cycle Factory, great service always!
  18. Hi I need to replace all 3 of my chainrings on my SRAM S1000 crank, as well as my chain and cassette. I've managed to get a Shimano XT chain and cassette on sale but am struglling to find compatible chainrings for the S1000. My understanding is that you cannot use Shimano chainrings on a SRAM crank. Anyone know of compatible chainrings and where I can purchase them? TIA
  19. Thoroughly enjoyed this event! Managed 11 laps. Went out at 4 in the morning to go do my first night lap and 15 minutes into it, my bike light fails!!! Had to do all the singletrack using a camping headlamp. Needless to say, it was my slowest lap I didnt hang around until 1:15 to get my medal, does anyone know if you can still get one? My 3 year old daughter was dissapointed because I always give her my medals.
  20. Photos are up on www.photosport.co.za. Their payment system doesnt seem to be working, or is that just me?
  21. I was very excited about this when they first started advertising it, but I wont be joining based on the events covered. I've got a GPS, helmet and glasses already. The whole offering doesnt make financial sense to me anymore. I think a large percentage of cyclists probably feel the same.
  22. RIP Fellow Cyclist and Father. May God give your family the strength to get through this difficult time.
  23. These types of posts are very commonplace nowadays but this one a makes my blood boil more than usual because I know the victim. He's a friend of mine, we are both members of the same cycling club. One of the nicest people I know. I'm just really glad that he is unharmed. I cycled that same route a few hours earlier on my own and noticed how the fence seperating the railway tracks from the bike lane have been pushed open in quie a few places, making it easy for scumbag thieves to get away easily. What's the point of having a fenced off cycle lane if the fences dont get maintained? There were quite a few homeless people living along that stretch along the railway. Personally, this has convinced me not to ride that whole bit of the cycle lane from the Milnerton Flea Market all the way through into town, if I'm on my own. I think I'll feel safer with the traffic on the N1 and come off at Christiaan Barnard Street.
