  1. sjoe: that is a seriously nice piece of work. did my own housing and so on ,but seeing how slick yours is, I'm just going to hide mine and not show anyone
  2. kind of makes it hard to feel sorry for the vast majority of fools that get nailed in traffic...
  3. Hello everyone. I seem to have lost my Topeak alien multi tool in deer park on Sunday. If anyone has picked it up, I would greatly appreciate it being returned. was one of those weekends: lost my tool and my tube (because the saddle bag was W-I-D-E open) and yesterday my crank arm worked itself loose! some days I sits and thinks, other days I just sits
  4. any normally apathetic people doing this tomorrow?
  5. omo works great on the chain. just clean the stuff where dirt affects performance......a little dust on the down tube really doesn't do much
  6. cyclone, surely you can't diss anything after trying it just once? I mean I'm sure if I tried fencing or ballroom dancing I'd be pretty crap at it initially. Maybe a little more patience is required and do go with some people who know where to ride. It really does make a world of difference. My first attempts at riding resulted in a few nasty spills: day one I fell off a bridge, which was okay if somewhat damaging to my ego. day 2 I crashed on a corner at the bottom of MF1 and tore open my knee... The fact that both of these spills were as a result of my incompetence in no way lessened the pleasure or made MTB anything less than awesome. There are loads of people riding in Tokai and most of them will help if you ask, and sometimes some will help even before you ask. Alternatively why don't you come round the other side of town and ride in deer park towards Rhodes mem. Also a brilliant ride, but a little more intense than Tokai. in fact give me a pm and I'll happily take you along my favourite haunts.
  7. I had the a similar problem with my hands going numb. I'm a programmer by profession and so perhaps leave my hands resting on the desk in addition to putting pressure on the end of my palms on the bike. I got hold of a set of grips with a bulge in the middle and positioned them so that the bulge was inside my palm, so that the ends of my palms did not touch the grips at all. Worked for me.
  8. Hey Nancy. Thanks for the effort in organising everything. It was really appreciated. Thanks to everyone for the social aspect and enjoying the ride. until next time
  9. Can I interrupt this faskinating topic with some imperical (or is emperical) evidence: my hope hubs just feel cool!
  10. I have the Hope XC hubs built onto Mavic XC717 rims with DT Swiss spokes....they've performed flawlessly, and I am a fat boy. don't know if that helps, but they work me. oh, and they went through the cedarberg escape without any problems...
  11. so this is the group you were on about Nancy Drew... excellent, count me in, hopefully with the missus included.
  12. well I've got the tubeless version on my bike and I rode the Cedarberg escape with it (and the crossmark on the back). No problems whatsoever.....
  13. just get a marzocchi.....expensive, but it just works, always.....
  14. just get a marzocchi.....expensive, but it just works, always.....
  15. yep, those were our thoughts as well, so we've contacted the various folk regarding it. I almost feel sorry for the guy riding a small green iron horse in one of the popular spots.
  16. they only got the bike. probably just a shot in the dark. I also wondered why they only took the bike. Althought the only other thing in the garage was the car (locked) and tools and other bits and bobs....
  17. woohoo.... this sounds very good. they forced the garage door open and bent various bits and pieces out the way.
  18. I'm with Alexander Forbes insurance, but I've never claimed for anything yet, so we'll see what the story is. Living in Oranjezicht, which has had it's share of crime over the years, but this is the first break in we've had for quite some time.
  19. njet, no joy as of yet. suspect the bike is in for a long and eventful life far far away. so just trying to get the quotes from the bike shop to submit to insurance. Maybe just maybe they'll pay out a little. ho hum c'est la vie I guess
  20. Oh well, I guess it had to happen sooner or later again. This morning my girlfriends bicycle was stolen from the garage. The intrepid thieves simply forced the door open (it no longer works) and ran off with the bike. And the garage is linked to armed response. Anyway. If anyone comes across a Iron Horse Warrior 5 size 15.5" (really small) in a lovely green colour in the cape town area, won't you let me know. Thanks
  21. Find a flat piece of road/track (or use your trainer) and practice pedalling with one leg at a time. That is one foot clipped in the other just hanging out in space. Try to pedal smoothly. Do this with both legs for a while and you'll get a nice smooth stroke.
  22. Sounds like a rebound issue, that would be my first guess.... try changing it and see if gets better or worse
  23. so perhaps I was just in limbo between the 70's and the return of the 70's?? Like peace and love dude......
