  1. okay okay, for the purists then...
  2. That is really cool photo. Does the photographer have more of these? Let's see them!!!!!
  3. DA, generally a very good thing to get the wife interested. We were with Lea in Adelaide and had a really awesome ride in the Government Sponsored Mountain Bike park... set in an old quarry, with loads of single track, fire roads, downhill courses.... unbelievable. apparently the local council is trying to promote the area as a mtb and other x sports destination. very cool oh, and the couch came with the flat. Hideous as it is, it goes with everything else here
  4. Presenting the new missus' new bike. Bought in Oz while on Holiday i.e. we actually could get the right size bike. Iron Horse Warrior 5 Avid Juicy 3 Sram X7 FD Sram X9 RD Sram Trigger shifters Rock Shox Tora 289 FSA Gamma crankset & Mega Exo BB WTB wheelset (no-name hubs....)
  5. just ride in the wind. you'll enjoy it one day when the gautengers come down and moan about the light morning breeze
  6. what am I doing here and for how long???? hmmm, this is a good question. I originally came over to write some software for an asset manager, but nobody was using it. So that idea got canned, and I am now project manager to implement some other software..... the how long is an unknown. I guess I'll stay as long as I can, and that'll at least be long enough to go snow boarding once or twice. Then I can say it was fun but bloody cold
  7. bummer dude. get well soon
  8. not gotten laid in a while, have we?
  9. sjoe... is your other nick name "Mr Smiley Pants". You seem to get worked up about things. Ever thought of taking a chill pill dude? I suppose it would be great if everybody gave every shred of evidence, condition, measure, etc at the time that any particular incident occurred, but sometimes people just want a simple answer: what do you think of brand x? it's crap, it's good, it's average. pick one besides if you take the evidence of just one person, you deserve whatever problems you get. that's why this is a forum....so people can express their views. If you want empirical evidence of something, surf the german sites, because they test everything.
  10. I almost forgot lessons learned from mint sauce.
  11. So having had the loveliest machine built I had an opportunity to take her for a spin on the mountain. Absolutely amazing, what a ride. Despite the stray dogs chasing me all over, the questionable ride through a forgotten cemetery and generally getting lost somewhere on the kuramangazy plateau it was schweet. oh and I found some designer mud for my lady, but this was the cemetery trail, complete with dog to chase you down the crumbling staircase
  12. And never forget the glorious military past. It's quite amusing. To be a man means being a stern faced, unsmiling, hard as rock and cold as ice individual. But's it's pretty hard to take a security gaurd seriously when he's a head shorter and about half your weight. and I'm hardly a tall person myself. as for the double jointed gymnast wannabeee something something muckity muck.... no haven't met any of them. They're not big on sport, unless it's cards, driving like lunatics or watching ultimate fighting on the tv.
  13. Okay, so maybe I was wrong and an 80km ride into the mountains was not such a hot idea, especially when the wife is really new to this....
  14. Not just in africa.
  15. It strange how the soviet era brought these massive square and dull apartment blocks, and here and there they missed some of the local and traditional stuff. I mean, how cool is this building. On the other hand, maybe it's all relative and anything not square and constructed from grey cement is awesome..
  16. This was the view from our first flat. Awesome mountains that just seem to go on forever. Plenty of mtb opportunity if you got the lungs 'n legs for it.
  17. they do love their flowers though. There are loads of parks and fountains, and everywhere there are bucket loads of roses
  18. And here is one of the famous and stylish apartment blocks, with a lovely autumn tree..... kind of poetic: the block is bleak, the tree is becoming bleak....
  19. 70 years of occupation, vodka and stalin will leave some kind of mark...
  20. there are *just a few* stray dogs around here. there was a news report about an evicted elderly person that became supper for a gang/herd/group of stray dogs (what do you call a whole stray dogs roaming around on their own - a Pack?) but the Hyena was so ugly he was cute. I'd have taken him home if I was feeling vaguely interested in getting 27 skin diseases from him. but shame, he was so scared....
  21. they probably picked up from the movies..... there are a some english gems here and there. I'll try to find the pics this evenign
  22. and a warning somewhere in the mountains. what I don't get is that there aren't that many foreigners here, and most not even english, and yet this warning is in English......
