    joBerg2C

Me too What can you do. One of the best rides of my life.
  2. I'm no doctor, but surely bouncing up and down weight is unhealthy. Especially if you are trying to loose 4kg in one week, and then follow that by carbo loading. Sounds like a recipe for disaster if you ask me. Also loosing 4kg is 5 weeks still sounds like quite alot to me (when you only weigh 70kg).
  3. My opinion: When I wanted to upgrade, I had v brakes and a crap shock. So I wanted disk brakes and a better shock, but getting disk brakes meant I needed new wheels too. I also wanted to upgrade spec. So all in all, it was going to cost quite a bit. For a little bit more I bought a nice, very well speced second hand bike. I guess its all about what is availible. I would say keep an eye out for good second hand bikes.
  4. Wow, that sounds familiar. I'm still bitter about it.
  5. HAHAHA #6
  6. For me its the sitting at work after a great week end of racing thats the worst, or after JoBerg2c, it was difficult to come back to reality. I normally have the next goal all lined up, so I dont have much time to let it affect me to much. I agree I found rowing depression worse. @ Edman, You go to Wits? I thought it was you but I wasn't sure...
  7. There was a thread the other day saying "you know your a cyclist when.." I laughed and told my girlfreind the one about making a wedding registry at the bike shop, and she thought it was a brilliant idea... SCORE!
  8. I use a Fox back pack (and bottles). I save my smaller camel back for trail rides. I don't know exactly what model it is, but it has: back padding, 2 big pockets, one small pocet for iPod (with earphone hole thing) one big netting pocket at the back, 2 small netting pockets on the sides chest strap waist strap I have no idea how many liters it is, but it fits everything i ever need in, including, shoes clothes towel, toiletries, lots of extra lunch, etc etc... with space to spare. I cant find google images or the actual model name, so I guess this isnt very helpfull, but i can say that it was the best buy ive ever made. It was R450 i think. I got it at the fox shop at gateway centre. Full throttle motor bike shops also stock fox.
  9. You guys should try and get hold of the New World Dissorder videos. I can't post them because they are about 45min each, but its a mix of free ride, DJ, some trials... and then some whacked out sh** like unicylces etc. There I think ten of them now, they release a new one every year or so. Well worth it. I keep them on my iPod for when I get bored
  10. I don't see the problem... Cycling = priority
  11. is that including the 14% vat?
  12. Even if you publish the serial number, its useless until there is such a data base. Do the police have a record of all stolen bike serial numbers... maybe, probably not. So now some1 publishes there serial nuber, what are you going to do with it? Until everyone registers their bikes, its not going to help much.
  13. Yep, all true. This is my third year trying. And I dont have much hope. I spoke to some people and they say that they do it every year just to make sure they don't lose their entry. Because if they don't do it for one year, they will lose their entry for the following year and never get in again. I think its sucks, but what can you do.
  14. Thanks Hannes and JB, I learnt something today. I never really considered things like this. I always assumed the top spokes increase their tension. Now that we have proved that, I think the "hanging vs. standing" argument is becoming a bit of semantics, and I can see both sides. Thanks for the interesting read.
  15. Never pat a burning dog
  16. Ditto, Horrible way to go. I recon most smokers don't even realise how ugly it really is. But I'm not gonna preach about it.
  17. Yes it does... I made that mistake, but it doesnt bother me too much. so my rear derailer the thumb increases the gear and the finger trigger decreases it. I think you get shifters that are specifficly for the rapid rise so that the gears work the normal way around from the shifter side. If i am correct the theory behind the rapid rise is that if u hit a sharp incline, you can drop gears very easily, becuase the in its neutral possition the derailer returns to the easy gear, compared with the normal set up where the tension in the cable pulls it into the easiest gear.
  18. I wont lie, I'm sold on crank brothers too. My SPD's never really worked properly, Every time there was a bit of mud they went to s@!*. I've heard that the Crank brothers need more servicing, but they work so well that I dont care. Also, for example the Candy C's at around R300-R400 (I got mine for R210 on crc) weigh less than shimano xtr... and they are not even the lightest in the range.
  19. I carry a bomb and plugs. Only for stage races like joberg2c did I carry tubes because of the extra risk of not finishing the race.
  20. So not cool... I looked and couldnt find them. oh well, I'll do the duct tape thing. Thanks for the confirmation
  21. Ya, I'm curious about that.. I wanted to try swopping my bake levers to the inside... but i couldnt find these supposed "plates". is it only the new xt, or the last version too? I dont have the model number, but I have the older one that looks like the picture below... (if the picture works) http://terrengsykkel.no/ubb/images/attachments/34059.jpg
  22. Haha, Nice one cat-i. I saw your bike at Joberg2c, my girlfriend loved it! Post pics of the new upgrades...
