  1. I don't know exact numbers for a SA Pro cyclist but I would believe that the earnings is proportional to the size of the market and the scarcity of that skill in the market. Since the local cycle trade is potentially only a ZAR500million industry vs accounting that is around a ZAR 500 Billion industry (arb numbers to illustrate the point), a pro cyclist earning R25,000 per month is doing relatively better than an Accountant earning R 150,000 pm. Supply and demand scarcity of skill and value of that skill all need to be considered. In real terms obviously the lifestyle is going to be vastly different. But relatively speaking, the cyclist is punching above its weight considering the size of the industry
  2. Personally I feel that Pro Cyclists are earning a commensurate salary. Its other sports where the athletes are over valued; NBA, NFL, Super Rugby, premier League, Bundesliga, etc. Those athletes are paid for the viewership they bring in and therefore the sponsorship opportunity. Brands are willing to pay the leagues, or associations or governing bodies for the TV time they can milk out of it. the model employed in Cycling harks back to the 1800's. For some reason Cycling just doesn't seem to attract the same sort of business brain trust that other sports do.
  3. As long as it works for you then thumbs up. I quite like it set up like that but a 100mm stem was just a touch too long. The 18.5" would have swayed my purchase decision
  4. Sounds like you need to remould the heel area
  5. Show me a tour winner who went from last to first without the use of PED's. In fact he's never finished on the podium of a Grand Tour in the past 11years and somehow I'm to believe in marginal gains and 5% body fat.... BTW I'm not asking you or anyone to believe in anything, I'm not a pastor.
  6. IS the Trek Top Fuel a recently landed 2018 or 2019 model or an earlier 2018? I ask because if you're a medium fit on the SC the trek 17.5" size is going to be very tight and the 19.5 may be too big. They started bringing in the 18.5" from June. I'd get the TREK BTW. I prefer the way the rear suspension remains active through all kinds of terrain without as severe pedal feedback over sharp edged trail obstacles
  7. Huh? You install it, and ride. It calculates your FTP in real-time
  8. is this for a Si Crank or for the Shimano?
  9. Agreed and if you want better shifting fit a XO1 Eagle XG-1295 cassette. it will outlast the GX too.
  10. The 2017/2018 Scalpel has a 83mm bb shell +6mm for the Ai off set so a Shimano 24mm MTB spindle will fit into the frame and can be spaced corrected to achieve a suitable chain line. You will need a B30 set of shims and spacers. You will also need a PF30A compatible BB30 to 24mm axle converter. https://wheelsmfg.com/bbright-adapter-for-shimano-cranks.html or https://wheelsmfg.com/bottom-brackets/cannondale-bb30a.html the latter is probably the better solution
  11. But technically,..... Shimano doesn't have 12 speed yet. At least until mid September
  12. Sorry I think you got it slightly wrong. XX1 (EAGLE) = XTR Race XO1 (EAGLE) = XTR TRAIL X1 = XT GX = SLX With the 12 speed stuff its still largely the same except that X1 has been replaced with GX EAGLE and NX moves in to challenge SLX. FWIW, could the people experiencing shifting issues with GX EAGLE please post what bike this is fitted to and what are the shifting issues specifically.
  13. Oh jummy a maths debate. Normalised data may be presented as non linear. I'd agree that the data should be at least 3Rd order
  14. Those numbers would be average Watts and therefore pretty impressive
  15. Very different event back then. The bikes aren't so different. Materials have changed and they have more gears. Speed difference is the engine
  16. Huh? Bike racing sells bikes. People buy what the pros ride. R&D gets paid for by profit. The UCI stiffles innovation. Plentiful great concepts out there. Ever wondered why mtb develops more interesting tech? Less restriction from the UCI. Join the dots man
  17. What are these lots and lots and lots of issues with GX? On XO1 Eagle for 2years without any issues despite my best attempts to break it
  18. 49 years since the first moon landing. 46years since man last walked on the moon... The UCI can be thanked for the lack of progress. They even govern sock length... No jokes
  19. Nope saw it before my eyes.training buddy losing 1kg a week and gaining power at the same time. One week I was the dropper the next the droppee. Attitude became more aggressive. So I asked the question "are you doping" and got the middle finger... After sudden cash flushness ranout so did the form. This person was being coached in Cape town and used the services of a "nutrition expert"
  20. Ya nothing worse than an aero bike with 70mm of spacers above the headset and a Viagra charged stem
  21. How amazing is SKY! Takes a man who finished 2nd last in 2007 to TDF winner in 2018, there's hope for me If I join SKY
  22. LOOK 765 is an endurance bike and Giant Propel is an aero race bike Its like comparing a GIANT DEFY to the PROPEL. Stack on the LOOK will be higher so you can set up the bars to a more comfortable position. Maybe decide on what need you're trying to fulfill first and take it from there. No "I need a new bike.." isn't a helpful answer
  23. Because carbon and aluminium make a stunning battery no matter how much carbon paste or clay grease you use. Have to clean out that corrosion at least once every 6months
