  1. Resolved They first did a full hub service but the noise was still there. Bike shop said it must then be the spokes, but a Santa Cruz mechanic said it’s definitely still the Freehub. So considering it needed rebuilding to see if it was the spokes I just replaced the hub at the same time incase it was the hub. Fixed the issue. So ultimately it was either the spokes or hub.
  2. Checked this morning and it wasn’t the B-Adjustment screw unfortunately. Then took it to my LBS today who did a complete service this afternoon of the hub as there was a tiny amount of play. Unfortunately also didn’t fix it. On an indoor trainer it’s also silent in all gears. So they confirmed it’s definitely the wheel somehow. Gone for the last resort option which is a complete wheel rebuild. Should take about a week as they’re busy, but will keep this thread updated until it’s resolved incase anyone comes across this same issue.
  3. Thanks for the feedback. It is the AXS, I did also use the included b-gap adjustment tool with the bike under sag and chain the correct length. I’ll recheck tomorrow morning as soon as I can (hopefully is just something this simple).
  4. Hi all, A while ago my chain snapped ripping the derailleur and quite tightly wrapping the chain between the cassette and Freehub. Following this I replaced the full drive train (derailleurs, cassette, chain, front chainring as it was also time to replace). 2 spokes also got replaced that were slightly damaged. However, when accelerating under relatively high torque I get this sort of crunchy/grinding sound. What is odd is that it’s pretty much perfectly silent in the middle gears, but makes the noise in the further out gears. From the video I first accelerate in the middle gears where it’s silent, then when I change further out you immediately hear it in part 17-21 seconds and later. When freewheeling it is also silent. Gears are indexed perfectly, The cassette is properly torqued and it’s not the cassette itself as I’ve tried three different ones, all brand new. I can only imagine that the hub is somehow damaged? 5. Go look at the Recon lights from ‘Giant’. They all come with an adaptor so that it can mount to a GoPro Mount. I.e. see: https://www.giant-bicycles.com/za/recon-hl1600-2019 There is a whole range of lumens. Everything in the box. I have giant lights for front/rear and can confirm they are well built, bright, long battery, and reasonably priced.
  6. Hi, quick question - what are the green symbols on the garmin map? ive searched everywhere but can’t find a legend which explains it? thanks,
  7. Awesome thanks guys will try those shops.
  8. Hi, can anyone advise where in JHB I can purchase TT extension bars. I’m struggling to find online and only needing the polls, not the mounts etc. just need to get pointed in the right direction of stores that may sell. thanks, Stuart
  9. It’s the same this year. https://947-ride-joburg.s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/24072019+-+D947RideJoburg_Venue_Parking+v14.pdf
  10. Thanks everyone for the helpful responses That 1.8mm spacer did the trick. Took the cassette off, added it, and boom it works perfectly. No adjustment required when switching between the Kickr and my Wheel All gears working flawlessly. Seems that contrary to everything on the internet if you add a 12 speed NX eagle cassette to the stock Shimano free hub on the Kickr you need to add that spacer. Thanks again
  11. Hi guys, Does anyone have a KickR Core (or 4) with an NX eagle cassette? I opted for the NX eagle cassette as it can be mounted to the Shimano free hub that comes with the KickR. However, when I mount my bike to the trainer (my bike normally is set with XX1 groupset / XD freehub Etc) the indexing is WAY off. The end points is off too and the chain can easily come off of the 11 tooth cog. Is there something I’m missing as I don’t want to index and change end points each time it’s mounted to the trainer. Also don’t really want to change the trainer to XD hub and applicable Cassette. Thanks.
  12. I think you’re miscalculating the times. The Racetec times are correct and haven’t been altered - it includes our stoppage time. I finished 32 seconds behind the winner and my ‘moving time’ was only 2:02. My total time with all the stopping was about 2:08 on my garmin. So our theoretical total time with TJ and the 5km we missed would only be about 2:18 (Same as VA roughly)
  13. Just before that loooong downhill, when turning right into that road we were essentially on the wrong side of the road, on a blind rise, only for us and the race officials to realize it wasn’t full road closure. They then stopped us after the downhill to let us know the situation etc.- it was then neutral to the top of the hill we were stopped on. They then stopped us again on the Highway for quite a bit longer. Think because people were protesting about the situation. Some peeps then go into cars and then the rest of us went on.
  14. Ave Speeds on Racetec aren’t tooo far off. My Garmin showed an Ave of 44.5kph. It also shows that we spent 5 minutes completely stopped by the race official during the race in total. So with the missed section you could in theory add on maybe 3 minutes to the times considering other grouped weren’t stopped. Will be interesting to see how Racetec handles it. Having not done it before, I was very confused when we got back to that start road and I was left wondering where the climb everyone talked about was. Everyone lit it up on that final stretch and I dropped off thinking damn we still have a climb and 5km to go ????????
  15. Update: After trying almost every bike shop in the country, Sprocket & Jack had a set lying around from a build Surprisingly even Shimano South Africa was unable to assist.
  16. Hi guys, Does anyone know if I can somehow get just the mounting bracket for the EW-RS910? The pieces I’m looking for are circled in green. Would really appreciate any direction on where I could get it Thanks,
  17. All I can say is it’s only a matter of time until someone falls, and when they do, they better have medical aid AND gap cover. I broke mine in Sept 2018 which didn’t require surgery. I then broke it recently min Jan 2019 which required surgery. Was quite a bad break and the bones were completely overlapping and about to break through the skin. I used a hospital within the Discovery network etc. The bill came to around R95k. To put it into perspective, Discovery at their 100% rate only paid about R32k. Gap cover paid the remaining R54k. So just have some sort of cover and know the potential costs of falling can be significantly higher than you may think.
  18. XO1 Eagle Cassette - just passed 5,000km on it and using 2 chains. Changed the chains once at around 2,500km and both chains are still under 0.5% wear. The chains and cassette are cleaned and degreased every week.
  19. The life - Not a clue how to even begin getting sponsored unfortunately, so for now Its just me, myself & I.
  20. Agreed - but not many other option in a sprint . I assume then that any of the group sets it will do just as much harm, so might as well go with the new 105
  21. Thanks for the responses - I'm happy to hear that there doesn't seem to be much difference apart from weight. In terms of robustness in a sprint, are they also similar? i.e. Changing gears at close to 1,400w ? Is is pretty much just weight, and that there shouldn't be reliability issues in a sprint? Thanks,
  22. Is there a significant difference between the new 105 R7000 and Ultegra R8000 apart from weight? i.e. wear and tear? Shifting? etc. Looking between the new 2019 Giant Propel Advanced Disc 1 or 2 as reasonable options and value - Mainly for training purposes outdoors and on a trainer, but must also be able to race hard. The only difference is the one bike has carbon wheels and R8000 Ultegra, and the other has normal wheels and the new R7000 105 groupset. Ignoring the difference in wheels, would you say the new 105 R7000 will do just as well?
