A lot of people use Motor Oil for Lowers Service 5W30 and it works fine as a lubricant but it can cause Staining of Parts because it has Detergent Additives. Fork Oil for Motorcycles (15w) does not cause staining of Parts and also works fine as a Lubricant. Damper Oil is 5w or 3w depending on application.

After Washing.
Put Some oil on the Seals and on the Stanchions and compress using Brake.
Use the Same OIL you do Lowers Service With (15W Fork OIL works) Not Engine OIL
Rubber Seals Need oil. (Hydraulics 101)
