  1. ...thanks, BaGearA, anyone else got advice?
  2. mate of mine has bought a VERY nice 2nd-hand, low-mileage Spez Levo, Turbo, I think. 1. Bike has 5 or 6 small, deep paint chips on ONE SIDE,(only) of the bike; to me, indicative of being loaded for repeated trips on back of a vehicle; QUESTION: are Spez touch-up paints, OR colour codes, available? 2. Same side of bike, ONE rim surface has MARKED micro- 'pitting': I mentioned that cosmetically, I thought rim tape - steady, Boys...- would be cheaper, less labour-intensive than stripping a wheel and THEN getting it re-anodized, or what say the collective brains trust? It feels as if this bike did many km to/from say a holiday house whilst on the back of a vehicle, and one rim got hammered.. ? Cheers, Chris + my mate Pete. .
  3. I did a bit of riding, HB around the Point and back to HB, on smoothish ‘road’ tyres on 2 different MTB’s (a 26’er and a 29’er), and the performance gains were MARKED. Sometimes rode a gravel 2km stretch in the Reserve, and it was not too bad, but it was not ‘gnarly… My 5c says IF she could ride the 2km with something road-biased, but a BIT of tread, she may love the experience! (I had 2 sets of inexpensive wheels, for the win). Chris
  4. I wonder if Roger Duffet might help you with info…. PM me for his contact deets, and maybe Tim Brink has knowledge, too. Good luck. Chris
  5. I arrived on a motorbike, explained my business (permit), and was waved through (or rather, around…) the booms…. Cheers Chris
  6. Feedback; all VERY efficient, handed over 2 pics, completed form and amount due around 4pm Wednesday, can collect card on this Friday, so great service! Cheers Chris
  7. Filled-out form (available on-site) 2 passport-sized photos (or 1 photo AND your old access card) cash or card. Drivers license; they will take a copy of it themselves. Cheers Chris
  8. So, they 'collect' them till they have 'batches' of 4, and then 'process' them every FRIDAY: i will be dropping mine off later today: Contantia Uitsig bike park HOURS are 09:00 till 5.30pm. Cheers Chris
  9. thanks, Jewbacca - will call C Uitsig Bike Park, and enquire there - I now recall after many years of going to the 'Sanpark 'house', I THINK i did go to C Uitsig last year - will check it out - appreciated!
  10. Hi, IIRC, to benefit from the 4-rider-permit discount offered by Sanprks/TM, I just drop my application in to the little office, and they ‘bundle’ 4 riders together, and I get the reduced rate? Permit expired 11/11, and wish to ride there again soon. If anything has changed, keen to hear…? thanks! Chris
  11. …the route ChrisF proposes, given your fitness, is an excellent- and safe route, with just ONE place to be cautious of….….when riding through Scarborough, then Misty Cliffs, DO NOT turn right at a 4-way stop, to go past OCEAN VIEW, rather go THROUGH the 4-way stop, and over a climb, then down into KOMMETJIE; just a LITTLE FURTHER, but way safer…
  12. NOT pure cycling related, but my CAPE cycling buddy was in Pretoria recently - as a videographer, was involved in an accident with a massive truck (not of HIS doing), passed out after accident with a massive gash to his head, came around to find he was being robbed inside a car wreck, broke the BACK of his hand on one of the robbers teeth, could not cycle for 3+ months due to injuries… I have Sister and brother-in law living near Brooklyn, and my PERCEPTION is it is a quiet, chilled area compared to Jozi; these incidents above REALLY make me reconsider, and I am not naive… Sad. Chris

Would like to see that colour-way on your bike; I am a Gulf fan, here is a pic of my pumps…
  14. You should contact Roger Duffet; www.trikes.co.za - if that website does not work, then PM me, and I will share his other contact deets. American company, they made recumbent AND trikes and a few quad cycles ; one of the leading companies, back in the day, I think locate in Greensboro’s - anyways, Roger is your info man. Cheers Chris
  15. Hehe, no. Just never seen one, was curious, is all.
  16. …something about this add looks “off”; maybe just me, the price s-E-E-m-s to me to be low, as if this was a previously liberated bicycle? Or is that indeed what they fetch? No slight intended! Pretty ingenious folding handlebar/s! https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/662283442668604/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3A4eff6f35-7c72-493b-bea2-8d1e506bc38c Anyway, never seen one before, interesting bike! Chris
  17. ..nice to see the Wagon Wheel tracks a century or more later, in this picture you took; quite incredible getting a wagon over that, back in the day! thanks for posting! Chris
  18. All true. But so you carry say 2L (2kg) of water on the hottest part of your back, add in a tube, maybe, some tools, as you mention, 2 energy bars, etc, and very quickly you have several kilo's on a part of the back that sweats properly - rather then a hip-hydration system, but where possible, let the DONKEY (read: bicycle) carry weight, rather than your BODY (where feasible, of course). Horses for courses, I understand, just be aware that not everyone NEEDS a hydration pack - some years back, it was almost a 'right of passage'; nowadays, not so much!
  19. Tyron Lab wrote: “Gooi some cheapo bar ends in-board of the grips and you've got a relatively aero position too. My current rig:” …or better yet; put on some not-AS cheap SQLab inner-bar-ends ; same Aero comfort/position, but multiple times more comfortable.
  20. Quite a few of the bikes can take 3 water-bottle mounts, whichI find preferable to say 2 bottles + a hydration pack; having done 3 Epics; 1 with hydration pack and bottles x 2, , 2 Epics without the hydration pack, I cannot recommend highly enough leaving a hydration pack OUT of the equation, where feasible. Cheers Chris
  21. still closed there yesterday, and again this morning, cheers, Chris
  22. unsure HOW to share a Garmin route file with you - but will see what I can do. My own files start in Hout Bay, will see what I can dig up..
  23. Maybe Bennet Nel, else also ‘Dr Evil’ (Leon Evans) can advise you who to approach up your way? https://www.treadmtb.co.za/trailbuilders-bennet-nel-ace-with-a-spade/ https://bikehub.co.za/news/welcome-to-dr-evil-territory-r6701/ Cheers Chris
