  1. On the subject of Power meters - I do not currently HAVE one, but have been reading up/advertising FOR one for the better part of a month... Some info you MAY find useful: there are LOTS for crank-based (mostly STAGES) for sale on Bike Hub...mostly R3K-R4K-R5K price band... Not so many in 175mm, which is my crank length of choice on 3 bikes (Vintage Road, MTB an eMTB...) I want crank-based since all 3 bikes are Egg Beaters pedals, so pedal based not an option (for me...), AND MTB is better with crank PM over pedal-PM... @ChrisF kindly donated to me an older, working Garmin Edge 520, so, 15 years after many mates started 'training' with Power, and since the Edge has that data window, feel it would be instructive to incorporate Power WITH HR... My MTB, has dual wheel-sets, MTB a-n-d road; PM is for MTB ROAD thus I want to use I want the STAGES power-meter, not pedal-based...) NOW: even with the services of Omnico (importing Agents of STAGES, for advice) and a bike shop, acquiring the right Stages is ....complex! Basically, once you have settled on the correct crank LENGTH PM you need (in my case, 175mm), THEN you need to do - in my case - HEAPS of research... for e.g.: I have a 2015 Spez Epic Comp Carbon, with a no-name - and I mean NO name - crank, which turns out it was made by SRAM for Spez, but not branded SRAM, only crank-length and a serial number stamped in... After getting Omnico to IDENTIFY the crank, it was on to searching for a BB30, or DUB (???) crank, having the correct width for my BB; meaning that say a STAGES Cannondale BB30, sold WITH spindle, would / could fit, but would then need spacers, possibly....maybe... Turns out Omnico had ONE spindle left for my particular bike, and then if I can buy the right STAGES, it would then fit... Chap on here was selling a well-priced STAGES in 175mm,, he had not fitted it after buying in 2nd hand, asked him to TEST it, and he got no readings!! So back to the drawing board - for me - JUST alerting you that it seems more complex - by a way - than simply swapping out a crank, unless maybe if you have say XT/XTR, possibly? Unsure! Any assistance appreciated! And good luck with YOUR search,
  2. Thanks, noted: I did voice-mail contact Paul M, of Leatt, to clarify, etc.
  3. I strongly suspect Leatt Corp /helmets were not TESTED for this report; maybe Paul M. of Leatt can comment? Leatt is a SA Company that was then globalised (?), unsure of their HELMET Int’l presence; whereas their neck-brace international availability is well known… Cheers Chris
  4. Interesting; clicked the link in your original post, shipping for the165mm: Shipping: ZAR1,257.33 Estimated delivery: 10-18 days …then, clicked on SAME item, but 175mm…. Shipping: ZAR183.74 From China to South Africa via AliExpress Selection Standard Estimated delivery on Nov 07 …hell of a difference in SHIPPING cost!!! If you are prepared to wait, then MAYBE shipping of the 165mm could come down, too…? Seems odd, but all from THEIR website!
  5. Yes, well done, Remco; that really was a cycling masterclass, after a nightmare yesterday; inspiring stuff!
  6. @BuffsVintageBikes **** it, these Black Royal Compe brakes are pretty, no?! (I had an old FC Clark (?) with Royal Grand Compe brakes; loved that bike! Chris
  7. When my Wife moved permanently down to the Cape 13 - 15 odd years ago, she would look out the window - expectantly - on the FIRST of SEPTMEMBER and - thinking JHB-style - proclaim SPRING was a-b-o-u-t to ... spring... I would then patiently explain that: 1. theoretically, Spring is 21st September, and NOT the 01st September... 2. then, I would explain THEORETICALLY and the CAPE weather do not know one-another... 3, then, I would explain buy the 01st November, she was GUARANTEED better weather, even Spring-like weather... 4. I would finish by telling her - factually - that our AUTUMN lasts longer than Jozi...so there IS that... She now advises any/all newcomers to the Province, that Spring WILL have sprung by November 01!!! Chris
  8. I have used them before on Petroliana (vintage petrol pumps stuff) - they did a good, affordable job. Cheers Chris
  9. All good, I have a post on here somewhere about WHY i converted a 26"er to an eBike - but was affordable to do - R20k, considering a 26" alu S Works with great groupo would fetch almost zero money, in the era of 29"ers...! ...after 6 years I recently had a problem with a CONTROLLER surging, so R2.5K - R3k to replace, after some great usage, I SUSPECT the internet forums has valid complaints of people who HAVE experienced problems, whilst many (most?) have few problems, and do not comment on (good) reliability! Cheers Chris
  10. ..would be interesting to see if a Francois Bennet has indeed bought watch CHARGERS from either Garmin, or Navworld, or similar? Since MOST of these watches are useless without theri DEDICATED charging cables/cradles? Cheers Chris
  11. Not my experience…. 5 or 6 years with a Chilled Squirrel eBike conversion…. 1. I always charge the battery to full, despite valid, alternative theories… 2. I drain/ride the battery quite low, usually around 10% - 20%… 3. 6 years later, zero problems with battery, ZERO discernible decline in battery OUTPUT ( 500w battery, 500w motor…) 4. Have zero to think about! Charge, ride, re- charge. Less hassle than an electric toothbrush! Chris

  15. I reckon ‘might’ works better than ‘may’… ‘might JUST’ would work better than (only) ‘might’… …and then if using ‘may’; the context would be strengthened by adding the word ‘decide’ as in…’may decide’… Wonderful how half-a-bottle of wine allows me to fabricate these (this?) answer(s)!
  16. This is really bugging me; should it not be…. There, fixed YOUR Grammar for you; now you can query others…! 😉
  17. …calves? Glutes? Hamstrings? ….oh, THAT tiny…😉🤣
  18. Agreed; the numerous reflected light sources from the wet roads, followed by sections of darkness and then back into partial light, it should surely have been brought forward by 1 hour to SOMEWHAT equalise the VERY different starting conditions… Usually, you cannot accurately predict rain nor wid variances, but DARKNESS happens at a given time every day - SEEMS not well thought though? Felt for anyone in a visor, with rain on it, in that reflected light, not fun.
  19. Lynskey, a ‘technical’ recoverer of high-end vehicles, and some complicated motorbike seat recovering, is Dinesh Chetty, well-known/trusted in the industry, and he is in Goodwood, Cape Town, shoot me a PM, and I will share his contact details, I feel he could assist. He has quite a LARGE team of technicians, many schooled in different ‘dark arts’ of recovering! We use him for motorbike saddles past 6 years or so, does good work. Cheers, Chris
  20. Never seen a head-unit mounted BEHIND the bar, like in your pic; is it commonplace, or are you an innovator? Serious question, since it SEEMS practical/easier to view from the saddle? I like… Chris
  21. 50 bikes, with spaces between them, needs some ‘scale’, could a SCAFFOLDING company not assist, have seen it used in Tri’s back in the 80’s. (dating myself, here! )
  22. A Parable: IN-THE-BEGINNING… GEARING: In the Beginning, there was 1x, and it was good…. Need to sell more bikes, so introduce 2x, and it was good… need to sell yet-more bikes, so then 3x, and it was good… need to sell yet more bikes, so launch 1x AS THE NEW WAY, and it was good… A Parable: IN-THE-BEGINNING… SUSPENSION: In the Beginning, there was NO SUSPENSION and it was good…. Need to sell more bikes, so introduce FRONT FORKS, and it was good… need to sell yet-more bikes, so then FULL SUSPENSION, and it was good… need to sell more bikes, so develop 140/160/180mm travel….anyone for 200mm? need to sell yet more bikes, so launch a MINIMAL TRAVEL full-susser…, yes, and it is good… BIKE TYPES In the Beginning, there was an RACING BIKE, and it was good…. Need to sell more bikes, so I introduce a MOUNTAIN BIKE, and it was good… need to sell yet-more bikes, so then introduce E-bikes, and it was good… need to sell yet more bikes, so launch G-R-A-V-E-L AS THE NEW WAY, and it was good… GEARING… 5sp, 7sp, 8sp, 9sp, 10sp, 11sp, 12sp…..13sp?! …you will shortly NEED internal hub/BB gearing; STURMEY ARCHER, anyone you get the idea, a healthy combo of legit advances, and a GOOD dose of mark-E-ting… Chris
  23. thanks, a chap in SEA POINT (Dean) has one he is selling me, so I am sorted, but thanks for thinking of me! Chris
  24. If my Math is correct, that is R400 per rider (spend on 1 channel - effective channel, admittedly) spent on marketing before ANY other costs, and costs need to be recouped. R60k Seems like quite a bit of money for 150 riders, no? Cheers Chris
  25. I am looking for a Garmin CADENCE sensor (only), and I have a Garmin (new/unused) Garmin SPPED sensor (indoor trainer sensor) to SWAP... Tx. Chris 072 211 7725
