  1. No, but I will.....now!
  2. At 5 foot, 9 inches, I would say that bike is too small for you. My 5c. Does seem like very good value, mind you! Chris
  3. Some EXCELLENT advice here, will memorize/refer to it all going forward! For now, removed all 4 ‘stuck’ bolts earlier today, soaked the bolts in penetrating oil overnight, followed by light/sharp taps using the L-shaped Allen key to ‘break’ the seemingly lock-hold, and then CAREFULLY applied pressure, and all 4 then came loose, not much different technique wise to yesterday, so I DO feel the penetrating oil and sharp taps helped. Nice shiny (jewelry!) cleats fitted, and will test (check) them later today. thanks all, a REAL brotherhood of advice! Chris
  4. Some great advice there, appreciated.
  5. Cleaned bolt holes before starting, but appreciate the advice. Allen key just SEEMS to not go in as deeply, same key I would normally use, though. Cheers Chris
  6. No Titanium anything on my bike/shoes! …and no thread locker, either! But yes, have a Drexel at work, thanks.
  7. Swapped cleats out for much of my life; never really had any problems removing the cleats, but ALL FOUR bolts across 2 crank bros cleats are resisting effort of correctly-sized Allen key, …..am worried about rounding out the bolt-heads, so stopped whilst I’m ‘ahead’, as it were… Have given them a spray of penetrating oil overnight; any tricks/tips from those in the know, else who might I take it to (CT), with a better driver to remove the bolts? At our workshop, we have Torx drive bits for a ratchet, but not Allen, IIRC. Thanks Chris
  8. Thanks, busy few days ahead for me, but I will contact you via DM, appreciated, Chris
  9. Bought my 1st Tygerberg Trails board last week, and rode the same day…. was VERY impressed by 4 things: 1. The EASY procedure to buy it 2. the lekker, easy collection procedure at the Protea hotel 3. the 25-30 dedicated Park n Ride bays at selfsame Prota hotel - clever! 4. at 60 years, I got a SERIOUS Seniors discount, a win all round! had a great ride x2 at D’Aria, Bloemendal, etc, nice riding area! Chris
  10. Am looking to buy a 620-650mm old spec ‘skinny’ handlebar for my 26”er, current handlebar is 570mm, and the cockpit has become a bit cramped…. the species 25.4mm, which pre-dates more modern, 29”er ‘fat’ bar (fat at the clamp, IOW). Am putting on some ‘inner bar ends’, and could use the extra space… thanks! Chris
  11. I run Chaoyang tyres, front and rear, on my eMTB. Front developed a serious wobble last weekend, a near-unridable wobble, tyre 6 months old with 400km on it, CWC offered to PART-warranty it, since they have had a fair number of returns apparently, it FEELS like you have buckled your wheel, badly, but in fact the tyre casing is ‘buckled’. Replaced with a Maxxis, still have a Chaoyang on the back, will keep my eye on it…
  12. for clarification; did the driver pull out (say from side-road) at 90-degrees to the cyclists travel direction, or did he pull in front of the cyclists, overtaking them, as it were? thanks Chris
  13. Hmm, yes, I too wonder why more Harley Davidson 1600cc TWINS, with Screaming Eagle pipes, don’t get asked to be lead Marshall…..🤣
  14. Unsure, but found this INTERTESTING bit of history - who know?! One of those is Hammerhead – a relative newcomer to the bike computer scene. They’re headquartered in New York, USA, but the company was co-founded by a South African, Piet Morgan, who grew up in Joburg and was childhood friends with four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome. (Froome is an investor in the company and plans to do more work with them after he retires.) The Karoo 2 is more smartphone than GPS in design and appearance, with a durable colour touchscreen that features anti-glare texturing and a water-repellent coating. Like a phone, it also features a quad-core processor for speedy operation and smooth screen graphics. It connects to anything and everything, from ANT+ and Wi-Fi to 4G and GPS, and there’s 32GB of internal storage for maps, data and software. Other features include a thermometer, three-axis accelerometer, magnetometer and gyroscope. In short, you can harvest all the data. The unit itself weighs 131g, or 167g with the included handlebar mount, and in terms of pricing, it comes in at just under R7 000 shipped from the US, including South African taxes. The Garmin Edge 1030 Plus competes directly on spec and costs R12 099, which makes the Karoo 2 a very tempting proposition.
  15. one way trip, and not likely to need the box again? That would be cardboard, for the win, surely! I have used cardboard BOTH ways, to TdF, no problems, turned pedals wrong-way IN, handlebars out and taped, seat dropped, air out of tyres, etc.
  16. There are specialist battery refurbish shops that refurb OTHER Li-Ion products, wonder if they could tackle something that big? do you think it’s a bad cell, or ALL the batteries?
  17. Difficult, very difficult even, not impossible.
  18. I cycle to work occasionally (Hout Bay to Paarden Eiland), and have (sadly) avoided the dedicated cycle lane that runs alongside the bus lane, due the the Woodstock Bridge area/dangers, fortunately I have a harbour pass, which allows cycling through the greater basin area, and bypassing the 'danger' hot spot, .....but I have occasionally taken the exact route where this mornings incident happened - ....I cannot NOW not help thinking that a SERIOUSLY-well policed return to the purpose-built cycle lanes, with proper, visible, paid security, would be the way to go... A long shot, i know, but if that cycle lane was 100% 'trustworthy/safe', it would be an incredible resource. I live in hope... Chris
  19. ...well then, maybe CONSIDER retro-fitting an 'aggressive' hardtail with an e-bike kit, usually around R20-R25K, and THAT way you could get exactly the bike you are looking for; just a thought...?
  20. I own a soft-tail E-Bike, and in my case, given the additional weight of battery (500aH) and motor (500 watt) feel that a soft-taile-bike (full fat) benefits (‘needs’) the suspension, but keen to learn (it is a 26”er,chilled squirell conversion) Cheers Chris
  21. …any ‘Glacier-style’ glasses, that shield peripheral light? (for when cycling on a glacier…😆)
  22. Since permit valid for 13 months(and not 12), equates to R138 per month, sure seems to offer a lot of variety? Nice idea, someone clearly put some thought in. Now to get Tokai/ TMNP to join in 2024!
  23. May not help. You do not know - for certain - that it WILL not help. As you were...
  24. regarding the FB group, it is beyoned frustrating that some lady posting junk on there - any way to REMOVE her content - it is not cycling clothing, etc! Cheers Chris
