  1. Have sent this on/alerted via e-mail: to Councilor Ian McMahon, Councilor for Ward 115. (incl the web link). Regards Chris
  2. Recce’d the area of the incident yesterday - could find no flowers, not white bicycle, nothing, despite combing the area quite thoroughly. Decided on THIS pillar/s; it is opposite a traffic light, meaning people could look up whilst waiting; it is at/near the alleged incident spot, high-enough up to be seen, and would be behind a temporary safe-zone, with a security guard; this seems to be a CTICC temporary fenced-off area whilst they undertake CTICC renovations; I feel I can get the muralist ‘in’ there, and then she is ‘safe’ from harassment/being disturbed, whilst working. Planning a A0- sized mural, actually bigger; that is a larger than a newspaper, folded out, etc. IT WILL BE HIGH UP - Tape measure is PURELY to take dimensions… Any reservations, let me know, suggestions too, obviously hard to incorporate every idea, etc… Cheers Chris
  3. Once photographed my Daughter and Wife standing in a newly-flowering Canola field just outside Greyton; Wife walked away fine, Daughter had 10-odd allergic ‘mounds/bumps’ on her uncovered legs, just from STANDING in the Canola! Which made me Google this interesting factoid: …canola" is the name given to the edible-grade version (of the Rape Seed plant). The term "canola" is a portmanteau of "Canadian oil, low acid" and was chosen to avoid the negative connotations of the word "rape".
  4. calling @ChrisF to post HIS morning picture(s)...!
  5. 'Gravel' in The Mist...' Warm and DRY in Hout Bay, needed to unzip thermal jacket, then into the thick mist through Camps Bay/Sea Point/Green Point and the working harbour... Frame bag needed a quick 'shuffle', since shoes low down were causing a rub, but a minute later, was on my way, and bag performed well. Wearing size 11's DOES have its challenges, when packing shoes for work! Dawn getting earlier - all round, a great ride! Chris
  6. Unsure - there was a MEMORIAL ride I could not partake in - I guess it may have started at/or near - the site?
  7. Reminder: anyone? thanks...
  8. noted, updated 'original' post above, thanks! Chris
  9. Well, it is a race, and 96-odd kilometers, with 1560 meters of climbing, could be ‘tight’, having had a smaller, 500 watt-hour battery, I think you would need to be pretty darn FRUGAL, possibly riding in the LOWER assist settings, to get that distance… My old e-Bike had NINE levels of assist, and typically riding in level THREE(at 33% of max power) got the battery to last for close to 80km, but being sparing, wherever feasible, with the battery…whilst still enjoying the ride! Keen to hear what others think.
  10. Looking for assistance on either EXACT or APPROXIMATE LOCATION, thanks, Chris: 072 211 7725 (4. I did not partake in the memorial ride - is there already a GHOST bike nearby? Would someone kindly drop me an approximate PIN?)
  11. @BuffsVintageBikes might have some info on where you can try, unsure...
  12. Done, updated on earlier post, thanks, appreciated.
  13. List updated to include Splat + Anonymous - thanks, both.
  14. The Mural artist is back from JHB, and now working on 2x Vida-E assignments. She is ready to start on the mural commemorating the life of Mr Hammar, as follows: 1. She is available to work on the mural from Monday, 08th Sept onwards. Later, she leaves for an assignment in Portugal, so important it is done between 08th and 20th September. 2. I will photograph the nearest bridge-support of the underpass where mural needs to go, giving the artist the rough dimensions. I have offered her 2x long ladders, else she will bring scaffolding, etc. 3. I would like someone to collect - and hold the funds - until mural artist needs paying. I feel it will be in the order of AROUND R8k. The 5 or 6 pledges to date exceed this; we can decide how to use up any addtl funds, or return funds proportionately, hub to decide. Could I call for a volunteer person to RECEIVE pledged funds to?; it just keeps it 'neat' and at arm's length... 4. I did not partake in the memorial ride - is there already a GHOST bike nearby? Would someone kindly drop me an approximate PIN? People considering contributing so far: @Mamil @Rowl @Prince Albert Cycles @Zebra @DJR @TitusTi (apologies if i missed anyone!) ADDED @splat ADDED @anonymous @Spirog ADDED: @Milosh ADDED: @DJR thanks Chris 072 211 7725
  15. Usual commute - HB - to Paarden Eiland, but THIS morning, with a difference! Testing out the Giant Revolt frame bag, which i had made up from a template - it really is 95% 'ready' just a few small tweaks, @BuffsVintageBikes mentioned that they can 'bulge' lower down, I did not experience that problem, and had NEARLY zero rubbing, but was aware not to have too much bulge ESPECIALLY between the inside of the crank arms, for rubbing-reasons! I have (admittedly) large calves, wore rugby socks folded double, and no rubbing, so I can easily live with the bag, given its limitations. I chose to only have ONE zip installed, less to fiddle with, and less to need a future repair. Works for me. Next steps: a FEW of the straps need a tweak - they are positioned well, but some of the inners need to be a TAD shorter, and some of the outers need to be a TAD longer - it straps around perfectly, just cosmetically, needs tweaking! I might ask @BuffsVintageBikes else another Revolt size: LARGE rider to test it out for me, and give ADDITIONAL feedback. COuld probably do with a reflective strip down each side, etc. More later Chris
  16. Lekker Misty, nice light effect(s), ride 10 times, and 10 different weather conditions - nice!
  17. A SINGLE ride on @ChrisF Revolt, fitted with the Varia Radar, awoke me to the incredible awareness that radar creates… As a life-long cyclist, radar simply was not on my, er, radar! But, test-riding his bike up Chappies, on a busy Sat/Sun, reinforced how useful it could be as an ADDITIONAL TOOL (common-sense STILL applies…), I bought the Revolt the following week, and after that, Cycle Lab had the Chinese product (Magicshine L508), on a DEEP special, R1999, and after reading 3 overwhelmingly supportive reviews, i bought it, and never looked back…. Thanks, @ChrisF, and thanks Magicshine; money WELL spent!
  18. This, 100% solid advice. SLIGHTLY more 'sit-up-and-beg' position aids the back...
  19. Cycling pretty-much ONCE a week, and just ONE way (in...), since I then drive the Mrs. home at end of the day - only fair to share driving duties! Fitness is fair, but INSTEAD of riding more-frequently, have taken up cold water swimming (again), so am cycling less ...., and enjoying the challenge of swimming with the feeshes! The Revolt (bear in mind I have the 'budget' end of the Revolt-range- is simply excellent value-for-money, at just R25K new!), I actually ENJOY 2x, the stock 38mm tyres are ok for my purposes (90% commuting - will change them for 45's when time comes...), the gearing is spot-on for my needs, and I can cross harbour train rails without WINCING on my skinny 25's and 28's...! Was unaware of Baviaans record! Will go take a look! Cheers.
  20. Hb _Paarden Eiland commute: 1. Lekker smell of FRESH bread being baked early morning in both Hout Bay a-n-d Green Point! 2. Noticeably LIGHTER (than just 2 weeks back) once getting Green Point/Sea Point way... 3. Never seen a Steam Loco 'on bricks' before, looks like someone NICKED it's wheels...! 4. Beautiful PINK SKY over the Container Depot... 5. Left my office keys at home, so to Starbucks I went, b/fast, whilst awaiting staff. A lekker commute - they dont get much better than this! Chris
  21. The speed limit for that section is 40km/h. Since the hospitalized chap is both a customer, an acquaintance AND I paddled semi-competitively alongside him for over 10 years, I pass no judgment - I do not think I have observed that speed (limit) on a bicycle in a long, long time, although more lately than when I was younger. It is really the LOWER portions that are super f-a-s-t, but the mid/upper portions you would need to be 'on your brakes' to maintain 40km/h. Sadly, the chap that passed was also known to me, belongs to my HB Gym, etc, just occasional greetings to each other, but sad that - just like that - he is deceased. Terrible.
  22. Update; permission received for the mural, from Gavin Hammar, UK-based Son of Dennis. Hi Chris, my name is Gavin Hammar. I was just informed about the mural for my dad, Dennis Hammar. We would be honoured to have this done in his honour. Please let me know how I can help. I have sent him a voice-mail, and will get him a rough-outline of what is planned end August - 01st Week September, or earlier. More info as I receive it. Chris
  23. Update on the proposed Mr Hammar Mural - artist has agreed to do the mural end-August (or thereabouts) - she is presently away in JOZI on a large-building project. I am requesting ASSISTANCE with TWO 'jobs': 1. A Hubber approaching his remaining Family, checking it is ok to do a mural, in honour of him, etc. 2. A Hubber to approach Mamil @Mamil for his contact details of contact at Arts & Culture dept, for permission to proceed, etc. I will help mostly on the logistics side, making it happen, but will appreciate assistance on above. example of the work HERE: https://www.instagram.com/p/DDB5y7WqjTO/?img_index=1 Cheers Chris 072 211 7725
  24. Another yes for Chilled Squirrel; dealt with them sporadically over 7 years - stand up, quality outfit. Chris
  25. The mural artist is on a commercial large-building assignment up in JHB, and will then do a road trip back to CT, arriving roughly mid-August. She has committed to doing the mural, which is great news indeed. Her Instagram ‘handle’ or whatever, is _blakz I think we would need to contact the Family of Mr Hammar, and seek approval, before proceeding. I may need help with this, if anyone can assit in contacting the Family? I feel this could be a wonderful way of honoring his life. More later, tx for those agreeing to contribute. Chris
