  1. Gosh, you youngsters K-N-O-W how to W-O-R-K AI; much appreciated, that really is a useful starting point for me... Backstory: for a few months, have been commuting in to work - 30km, HB-Paarden Eiland.. MANY of these rides are 1h28, 1h24, etc. Decided to give it a bit MORE of a 'go', and hit a 1h17, just pushing a little bit harder... (but just riding once per week, or less...)... then, rode with all the way in with 'puppy paws' (excl Suikerbossie, and 'Clifton Hill' (!), probably 95% of the way in to work, and dropped 5 minutes off of the previous 1h17, to give me a 1h12 mins... Now, I want (need!) tri-bars! I reckon I may have a sub 1h08 mins in me?! (26km/h...).
  2. Keen to fit some tri-bars (extensions, in other words) to my gravel bike, which is a Giant Revolt, with Contact SL XR D-Fuse alloy handlebar... Any affordable CLIP ON (to existing bars I have) out there, likely with OVALIZED brackets? (tri-bars: its a long story...!) Chris
  3. So i had to Google Frans Hermann, to understand the name was a pseudonym for Max Verstappen, who wanted less public attention whist attempting - and breaking - the Nordschleife record; fascinating!
  4. I read this topic headline, and thought the OP was confusing Mips (helmet rotational redistribution system standard) and GARMIN, of all products….🤔😆 …and so I learn! Man! There are a LOT of a.c.r.o.n.y.m.’s in the sport!!!
  5. No, no, that symbol is for the band: Megadeath, needs more listening to whilst you are doing a HAMMER session….
  6. Example, and not even a Black Friday price… Giant Revolt 1 Alloy Regular priceR 33,000.00 Sale priceR 25,490.00 Sale
  7. Whew! Lots of facts interest/‘irritate’ about this thread… 😉 1. 50 sleeps tonite since OP posted; c’mon, people, what did you BUY?! 2. If the Giant is R11k ‘cheaper’ than the ‘equivalent’ Merida, AT THE LOWISH PRICE-POINT, then i think its a no-brainer all the way - Giant, and bank R11k… 3. Carbon vs. Alu, each material has its disciples; all i will say that Alu performs very well, and meets many peoples needs… 4. 1x is undoubtedly flavour-of-the-month, but 2x has it’s proponents, for good reason, try not drink the ‘must-be 1x’ Cool-aid I-F 2x can work - and work WELL - for you…,and often save you considerable Moolah… (my front derailleur does not need much fine-tuning…). 5. OP (Ryan Laaks); you've been quiet-ish since starting this thread; any update? (we DEMAND an update…) italics on… 6. Finally, 50 sleeps since original post, a-n-d Black Fri-Yay FAST approaching; tik-tok, people, tik-tok…! 😆
  8. I will explain to the 'Llandudno Chris' not to turn left and then cycle past Ocean View, direction Scarborough, but rather proceed on to Kommetjie (if riding around the Peninsula...), and rather go over SLANGKOP (as I myself do), thus avoiding that hijacking hotspot. Cheers Chris
  9. Welcome, ChrisT - I am in HOUT BAY, next suburb along, and commute just 1x per week into work, and do not belong to a (cycling) club, but if you and your Mrs pop over 1 evening after work, we can have a beer, and I can give you a useful, verbal ‘lay of the land’, and you will get MANY suggestions from this crowd, too. Chat then Chris / zebra 072 211 7725
  10. Fire? + Infinity? + ‘Roman ‘10’; pray tell what those ‘icons’ mean…
  11. I would safe it is definitely unsafe on the portion of cycle lane that runs next to MyCity, mostly along the Woodstock railway area/bridge area - MANY bike-jackings, etc. It SEEMS that people instead use the 'Sea-side' of Marine Drive GRASS VERGE to get from Paarden Eiland (pretty safe) to the City bowl... (you will see the walking/cycling GROOVED track on the sea side of Marine Drive - they cross at the 'back' Harbour entrance, onto the grass verge...) Others will give you more info - but exercise EXTREME caution - any time of day - cycling past Woodstock/the informal settlement. Cheers Chris
  12. What a fabulous read, what an incredible Palmares - one of a kind, practically. Cheers Chris
  13. Seemingly behind a pay-wall…. Anywhere else i could find the article? Would very much like to read it… thanks Chris
  14. I feel that Chilled Squirrel have done some e-Mobility solutions for people with -challenges’,could be worth giving Matt Kreeve, the owner a call; he would quickly tell you whats possible… DM’ing you his deets now. Cheers Chris
  15. Complicating my getting permission from the City (i felt they would turn us down for ‘drawing attention’ to a tragic event…) was the fact that the nearest pillar to be painted (and several others) were now behind a fence, screening off an 18-month refurb project for CTICC, which added complications, or so I felt. Since it was so neatly/professionally done, and since it indeed marked a tragic event, I went ahead without permissions, after making brief enquiries, and not getting anywhere. (It was easier to seek ‘forgiveness’ than to request approval, which is not usually how I operate!). I also wanted to ‘start’, after having gained permission of both his Son as well as his Widow…(and not let any MORE time elapse going through red tape/paperwork...) I DID feel that being on an access-controlled building site that was renovating just the INSIDE of CTICC, it would then afford 12-18 months ‘protection’….(being behind a security fence, etc.)... A real pity, but i would chance it, again, if I had to. Apologies, but I think the mural ‘spoke’ to the authorities. I have a mate who is good friends with Alan Winde; will ask him for any intel, and revert. Chris 🤕
  16. @Furbz very nice, indeed; can you find a reason to momentarily show us a better pic of the bike with the amazing LUG WORK, in the background, without derailing (derailleur-ing!) this thread? Tx!

    Gravel burn 2025

@Mamil Yes, I too,, think it could be an interesting weeks riding - an having done a good few Epics when THEY started, I do think that THIS race, too - could be brilliant - it really IS what you make it, camaraderie, yada yada, so for me, too, not just 'boring' gravel, but a fun event! Chris
  18. @ChrisF thanks, yes we stock SP Connect, as well as RAM mounts, so can definitely assist… (both are rugged stuff, survives off-road adventure motorcycling, etc). Chris 072 211 7725
  19. …a dinner-plate sized gear on the back, and a small saucer-sized gear on the front…?! 💡
  20. Danilo's Wife - Regina Lucas- was paid R4000 into her account this morning, from funds left over from the other tragic passing (Dennis Hammar). I know all your funds you contributed will REALLY help Regina is this time of her need - so many thanks, both to those contributing initially, AND then this excellent suggestion, that funds go to the widow of Danilo. R.I.P. Danilo Chris
  21. ...when 'going guerilla', I find one or two HI VIZ bibs SHOWS everyone you are 'legit', and they should keep the hell away, and let you continue whatever 'maintenance' job you are busy with...😉 ...Hi Viz bibs also worked for the Louvre gang!!!
  22. @DJR I will 'see' your not-guilty, and 'raise' you my double not-guilty 😇
  23. "...a colour palette, as bold as your ambitions..." Jeez; give me a B-R-E-A-K... I was/am a marketer, and that cr@p makes me run a mile... Rant off.
  24. Ok, so 15th October is here, and I have around R4k ‘surplus’ donated funds after completion of the Dennis H. project. I spoke to Arno/Prince Albert Cycles, who does have a charity, yet he himself suggested why not donate to the Widow of the Olympic Cycles mechanic who was killed recently in a door-opening incident… If no objections, I will contact Olympic Cycles Management, get the necessary details, and pay the amount over, to a worthy ’cause’. Any thoughts, just let me know, else will do this by weekend at latest. Thanks Chris
  25. @michaelbiker I hear you. But then, the article Meezo posted, under WHY CT is so congested, fail to mention that we have a MASSIVE COASTLINE & a MOUNTAIN where zero roads can be built, unlike Jozi, which is pretty-much a hub & spokes type (wheel) configuration. No matter - CT remains a HEAVILY congested city. Many years ago, we left Paarden Eiland for home at 5pm, but had to go in to the City to get to Kloof Nek, then Hout Bay... Traffic blocked MANY junctions EXITING the city, preventing our 'ingress'.. So we then went home at 4pm, to avoid the outbound rush/peak, whilst we were still inbound - BRILLIANT, much better... Fast-forward 5 years, and it - the peak - is now where 5pm 'was', but at 4pm...! Luckily, an Uber driver one evening showed us a MUCH 'cleaner' way to get to Houties, so best Uber money we spent! (Van was in for o/nite service...)
