  1. SLX components are not going to tip the scale on 10kg. I am with Dangle on this one, get a light weight carbon HT with at least XT or XO (XTR or XX if you can) if you are weight conscious.
  2. The only big race that gives me sleepless nights is the TDF! Can never wait for the next stage!
  3. I am a very sceptical person by nature, takes all hot-shot stories with a pinch of salt, and can smell bullsh*t from a mile away. Guess I am fortunate in this regard as my abilities makes me relatively bullsh*t-proof! So this friend comes along last night wearing a brand new PB band, to which I immediately respond, 'What's up with the Power Balance, does it work, and how much were you ripped off?' Her response was that she sleeps better since wearing it, and that her son can touch his toes with a straight-leg bend holding the band, but could not do so without it, so I thought 'let me give it a shot'! Could NTF touch my toes bending down with straight legs, but once I had the PB band in my hand, I bended down all the way and touch my toes very comfortably...WTF! So now I am confused, why could'nt I do it without the band, so I ran another test, bending down holding my Visa card with the hologram, but it did'nt work. Conclusion : If an arm band with a rather inconspicious appearance, which only costs about R200 can make me more flexible, what other benefits does it holds! We often spend R2000 to shed a few grams to make our bikes faster, or buy R500 energy supplements to go harder, why not spend R200 on a PB band! I'm off to the shops later today to make a small investment in my cycling performance. Agree, disagree, whateva!
  4. One of my best cycling related investments was a compact handle bar. Far better riding position in the drops, without any discomfort staying there for long periods. Also easier to change hand position from the drop to the top bar. Get one!
  5. Great time Airbender, great time....and thanx for tagging me along! Joining me in vets next year?
  6. Qualifying for vets for the summer Pro Classics!
  7. Hi Tarmac, can you use the Yellow King's on alu rims, cause I change my pads every time I take my carbon wheels off. Was told this will increase the lifespan of the pads, and prevent any carbon damage in the event that some alu debri getting caught in the pad.
  8. Just remembered, I know a Carmen who does!
  9. I tried to get my Garmin to suck, but it refused! (Apparantly not that type of gadget!) But other than that, it does all the other cycling related stuff it was made to do, very well!
  10. Bought mine at Cape Storm, used to be R199, but came down in price. Retails for R159. Bought another one this afternoon.
  11. Why ride a carbon bike? Why ride with Assos (or other premier brand) gear? Why ride with Sidi (or other premier brand) shoes? Why ride with a Giro (or other top end) helmet? Why ride with Rudy Project or Oakley shades? Why ride a Dogma? Why ride with Dura Ace, Red or Record groupset? Why use a Garmin? Why, why why? Cause we can!
  12. The Camelbak Podium bottle is awesome, keeps your energy drink cold for a 3 hour race/ride, no problem. Don't freeze the contents, rather just add ice cubes. I once froze my Camelbak bottle before a race, then discovered that the bottle works so well, that it kept the contents frozen for almost the entire race!
  13. Does not look like a XTR to me, if it is, it is a very old one!
  14. Wife's weight and age?
  15. Sounds very realistic Tarmac, also my thoughts. Battling to dip my bikes under the 7 for the road, and 10 for the full sus, but I'll get there. I know that Sram Red will do the trick for my road bike, but then again I am actually content with the their weight, as I am battling to dip below 80kg myself.
  16. Notwithstanding the road race limit of 6.8kg, it will be interesting to know what are the opinion of Hubbers on what is light and what is not, for a road bike, a full suspension and a hardtail, irrespective of the frame material. One often hear the magical sub figure in cycling...sub 3 for the Argus or a 100km race, sub 7 for a road bike's weight and sub 10 for a mtb. What do you think?
  17. I am in on the ride. Do we bring our gifts before hand, or on the day of the ride? Will be visiting your shop later today for a few gifts for myself, ie. Lizzard Skins and more, and by participating in this awesome initiative I will alleviate some of the guilt for spending so much cash on my toys!
  18. Hi Airbender, just got a call from Santa. He wants me to tell you that your are doing fine on your Raleigh Team, and have no need for the Super Six! He is however still contemplating the request for the Spez!
  19. Swiss Stop Yellow King pads (about R550 per set of 4) are made for carbon rims with a carbon stopping surfice. They could also be used on alu rims, however it is best to change back to standard pads when you change to training wheels. Your R550 pads would last longer!
  20. One word reply.....Easton....nuff said!
  21. I have'nt tried the Flip Flop hubs yet, but the sandles are great....or is that Slip Slop?
  22. I was also recently confronted with the choice between a soft 26" or a hard 29", and after test riding both, and considering my applications, I went with a soft tail 26". Without running other peoples choices down in this regard, I am not sold on the 29" concept yet. Think it is far over rated, and not my style. My advice, ride both, and then decide, as everybody will have his or her own opinion, while you are stuck with the bike and the invoice!
  23. Most tyre sealants contain ammonia, which will result in rim corrosion eventually. Mavics are known to be prone to ammonia corrosion, therefore Sludge Products is making an ammonia free sealant called All Terrain (orange box).
  24. wynandvdmerwe, a Merida 96 carbon would not allow a mellow man in the saddle, so I think the anti-Merida-dude should rather go test ride the woman specific Merida Juliet Lite to get a feel of a proper bike!
  25. What about Contador's choice, clenbuterol?
