  1. Has anyone ever heard of CycleLab's policy that they will equal any written quote? I have used this twice, saved thousands, and as a bonus, got awesome service for free! There is no need to pay more than what you have to, if you use their cool policy!
  2. Maybe I should not have participated in this thread, cause all of a sudden I have just realised that I was on the wrong place at the wrong time, with the wrong crowd! I am not normally quick to judge a book by it's cover, and I am cautious to judge the two hubbers, Tokoloshe and Shebeen by their usernames, so I will rather not comment further on this matter, but would like to conclude that I prefer a decent LBS than those operating from freight containers without any back-up service!
  3. Tokoloshe, unfortunately I can not share your sentiments regarding CycleLab, because all that I have got from those guys was just awesome service, and prices. On two occasions this year they have bettered my written quotes on two top-end carbon bikes. They made me a very happy customer indeed, and I will always go back. Viva CycleLab! Regarding the Trek Gary Fisher, also looked at one, but not yet convinced that I want one. Great bikes, well specced but wtf is it with the new handlebars. Looks like old school delivery bike handlebars.
  4. quote name='LeTurbo' date='14 October 2010 - 05:30 PM' timestamp='1287070222' post='1182745'] You are all way to cycnical about Powerbands. Have you ever won a race when you weren't wearing one? Exactly! So LeTurbo, what you are telling me is, if I invest in a PBB, I will win the 2011 Cape Argus Cycle Tour? Can I please order a white one, or rather make it a blue one to go with blue waffles!
  5. Hi Tankman, spoke to the guys at Omnico the other day, and they said that most of the Fox shocks (front and back) are remote compatible, and can be converted with little effort. Contact Russel at Omnico for assistance, great guy that knows his bikes! I think the grip derailleur shifter system is what we call grip shifts.
  6. Just kidding!
  7. I have displayed my Merida HT twice before on this thread, but the next time that she will be making her appearance on thehub, she will have a soft ass! Having her built onto a Merida 96 Team Multivan carbon frame! If all goes well, she should be out of surgery by the weekend!
  8. Silverback or Bianchi? Cheese or chalk? Nuff said!
  9. I would like to add to this thread... what was up with all the rudeness of the PPA volunteers at the start of the Engen Dynamic. Noticed this old bag walking around in cycle kit (instead of Grim Reaper's coat)shouting at poor youngsters who obviously participated in a race for the first time. Enough to put you off cycling, which is supposed to be fun, for a long time. Not cool at all!
  10. Joey, I don't think that you must be concerned at this stage, as signals are not always picked up inside a building. Go outside and test your unit. The Garmin often indicates a speed and elevation reading after a start up, which will return to zero levels once it has reset it's self.
  11. Camelback Flowmeter - WTF! Saw a dude at the Engen Dynamic 99 km start sporting his Camelback fitted with a flowmeter, so I asked him, whats up with the meter bro? To cut a long story short, he was actually doing the 46 km, and explained to me that it is important for him to measure his hydration, hence the meter! What happened to riding our bikes? I think I have seen it all!
  12. Riding cross-chain will give you problems, no matter what group you are using. My Ultegra can also ride small - small and big-big, but I don't do it, as it will cause chain, and cassette damage in no time!
  13. Is Killrney PPA training on tonight? Great day for Killarney!
  14. Do you still get these watches with the kiddies meal at Spur?
  15. I think the bathroom scale method is more likely to be accurate, than the kitchen scale one. So give it a try. Do you know why they make those WW scales only accurate to 10k's...cause you should not ride a bike any heavier than that!
  16. You are not serious! There must be far better, and more accurate methods to get your bike's weight than this one. How about popping in at your LBS and using their top-end Topeak or Parktool scale? Maybe that kitchen scale will be fine to weigh your Avatar's upper lip, but I don't think it is good for bikes!
  17. Ok H.v.W, we helped you with advice, now it is your turn. Where can I buy legs like that, and before I forget, do they actually work...I mean can you ride a bike with them?
  18. Also bought a Garmin Edge 500 from them. Great fast service. Placed my order the Sunday evening at a massive discount compared with SA prices, and have my unit in my hand the Thursday morning. DHL actually phoned me the Wednesday, but I was not at the office to take delivery. Faster than CRC, and far better prices. Got my Garmin for 50% of the local price! B)
  19. I don't think there is a problem with your scale, or your bikes, but rather the over optimistic Raleigh or Silverback owners! You know the story of, ...when I grow up, I want to be a fireman! Same here, ....when I grow up I want to be a Pinarello, weighing just 6.8! But reality is -it ain't going to happen. So my advise to you, be happy with the (true) weight of your bikes, and ignore the far-fetched claims!
  20. First Accent and Cape Storm are both good, they fit snug, and have good chamois', but unfortunately don't compare to Assos! I have also noticed that if you hang Cape Storm or First Accent, or any of the other under R1000 shorts on the washing line together with an Assos, the other one's chamois is dry long before the Assos. This is due to the density of the Assos chamois, which is beneficial on those long rides. Get CS or FS for training, and Assos for when you really need bum protection.
  21. When last did you give the calipers a good clean? Remove the pads, and check that the pistons operate smoothly, by pushing them back. Once cleaned, the problem should be solved. Also check that the spring that holds the pads are still good, and did not suffer any damage with removing the wheel and fitting the caliper block. SLX brakes are great and are not known for giving problems. Since I changed from Hayes to XT, my braking has been sweet without any rotor/pad rub! @jaco - just read the Giant's cv on the footer and you will know what breaks, or rather brakes he is using!
  22. Hi Neville, when will Mrs Tarmac join you at Killarney with that spunky bike?
  23. The Sidi is a bit of a narrow fit, so I would suggest going up 1 size for comfort. I wear a no UK11 in dress shoes and a UK12 in running shoes. In Sidi I take a 48 and it fits perfect. Good luck with your purchase, they are great footwear!
  24. Garmin Edge 500 - no magnets, no wires, no problems!
  25. Don't know about a brother called Anton, but I do know he has a cousin called Specialized!
