@Phillippe Coetzee Use an app called Windy and/or Windfinder. This will give you a better idea of the slog to Cape Point. Last I looked 20 knots of breeze – enough for white caps on the water – but not too bad. Really just classic old Argus weather. Don't stress about the wind. The temperature looks fine, and the wind helps you on the other side of the peninsula (it actually helps you everywhere by keeping temps down). Have a good ride. 👍

For your budget: definitely go hard tail, preferably with air suspension up front. Play close attention to the groups on any bike you want to buy: learn the differences between the various Shimano and Sram drivetrains (and brakes, for that matter), and shop with a minimum requirement for that (for Shimano I'd say the basic Deore as a minimum, not sure what the Sram equivalent it). You'll likely get a MUCH better deal buying used (considering your budget), but ask someone to help you source an honest bike. Welcome, good luck, let us know what you get and enjoy the ride. 👍

The plastic board is probably ABS, so over tightening it may weaken the structure. Double cable ties is a good idea. Does anyone know what reads it? No RFID that I can see, and just a tiny barcode (that surely cannot be it, can it?).

From an organisational standpoint it's difficult to see how it could be improved upon. Registration this morning a breeze, parking marshals fantastic, and route clear. A bit of a snarl-up where bicycles cross traffic at the Fisantekraal turnoff (bikes go right, some cars straight) but otherwise smooth sailing (oh, and a wider bridge down the line would be nice 😆). Awesome event, deserves the praise and growth and honestly hats off to all organising folks and volunteers. It felt polished.

I’ll take a stab in the dark: you are young and you think it will look cool. And that’s okay, we were all there once. But I’d suggest clocking a few thousand kays on your bike first, trust the designers and learn to MTB before chopping the poor thing. And you’ll save a few bucks you can spend on riding classes.

I'm not going to bother reading through the 4 pages, but I will say this: I find it challenging – at best – if the OP cannot find the energy (on an what is really an exercise forum 😆) to a) structure the statement clearly and b) presents us with zero clear information supporting his/her rant. In addition I will say that having dealt with Janos via email, over the phone and many, many times in person, I cannot imagine a nicer human being to deal with. Yes, he is a busy lad and cannot respond to your queries at the speed of Google Ads, but he works VERY long hours to catch up and keep up. And because of that EvoBikes (with an S at the end ... these little details are kinda important) is absolutely my preferred supplier. If the OP finds every bike shop impossible then perhaps, who knows, it's the OP who's the problem. 🤷‍♂️

We're in the wrong hemisphere. We don't matter, well, not until someone needs gold or diamonds or a bit of game viewing. How the governing body of cycling thought, between lunches and espresso breaks, thought this was a good idea is beyond me. But then every micro decision I take is not profit driven. 🤷‍♂️
