  1. I have the ITU on Sunday and my calf muscle and back of my knee is not happy after a 11km run home on Monday. I'm feeling super sorry for myself, done the compression thing Monday evening, did the ice last night (and in my onnie this morning at my desk as I was alone in the office) and popped some anti inflammatories. I'm saying this cause I'm looking for messages of support like, don't worry you'll be fine or you doing the right thing just rest it till Sunday. Don't worry about replying to this saying "jou dom "box" what were you expecting" cause I've already said that to myself.....
  2. What moment do you think he realised he f*&ck3d up? I think it's when he fells his front wheel drop.... As a rider you just know, hell they other day when I put some dirt on my shoulder I knew I wasn't coming out of this move.....
  3. Hey WeekendWarrior80, I use an M430 and it's a good watch for the price you pay. Does what it says on the tin. I would have liked a watch with a Triathlon function but I'm too poor for that. So I've used the M430 for about 2 years now. If I was you I'd fork out a little bit extra and go for the Vantage just cause of the newer tech. As for after sales service Polar hasn't disappointed me. Not sure which phone you'd be syncing with but Polar's bluetooth needs one or two attempts to connect but other than that no issues.
  4. A few years ago I decided to commute to work. But "there are no showers at work I was told", so I showered before I left home and then got in really early to have a cowboy splash in the mens toilets. The first day I did this I realised that the doors couldn't lock, so I stole a door wedge from a door that always had to remain open (I used to hide it under the hand basin so I didn't have to fetch it all the time) and carried on my cowboy splash in peace. I did get a big fright one day when one of the data analysts also got there early but the door was wedged so he basically broke in. I could see he looked at me in a "what kind of freak show is this type look" but I had some dirt on him. I'd keep it quiet that he allowed me to make system changes without getting the proper sign offs so we were even Stevens.... Commuting is awesome, I do it when I can but being on the school run makes it a bit difficult. I did the Woodstock, through CBD and home via Llandudno Constantia Nek route the other day... :-)
  5. hahahahahah I forgot about this thread. I shoulda posted this two weeks ago. Anyhoo back to my misfortune. I was riding out near Constantia Nek, about to do that 180 turn and go towards Southern Cross drives Greenbelts. As I drop who knows what I was thinking or doing and boom flip, straight over the handle bars. As I lay there laughing at myself I slowly (I'm over 30 years old theres no need to rush these things anymore) I straighten my bars and off I go. I notice my brake level moved slightly so I pull over to adjust it. Another rider comes past and asks if I'm ok, I'm like yeah why wouldn't I be then I check myself.... Arm grazed, cycling shirt, arm, glove, bag all full of dust. He knew I hit the deck.... :-)
  6. When I started Triathlons in the early 2000's nobody gave me a single stitch of advice. I was a strongish swimmer and my old man had a decent road bike (I had an MTB at the time) and I decided one of my goals was to do a triathlon.... Entered the Mens Health Series ( filled in a form, wrote out a cheque, the good old days) and rock up at Grabouw Country club. Whistle goes and I get klapped, skopped, swam over every way I could think of... I nearly drowned ... fortunately for me I was born and raised on the Cape Flats and the only thing I knew to do was to fight back... Happy days, every Triathlon is now approached in the same way .. until I moved to the UK. I entered a Tri on the South Coast, as the start gun went off I dived in, forced my way between two guys who both jumped out of the way and apologised to me that they were in my way and said I was more than welcome to go ahead.... LMAO I apologised to them and went on my way. I guess they didn't do it the same way we did....
  7. You that person going to do breast stroke from the start??? lmao... Love it! As long as you're there a part of it
  8. The Sleeveless Tri suit sunburn... man does that look stupid! I'm still trying to get rid of my "help my sterk lyk" tan
  9. Hey SeaBee, goodluck. Why not do the Cape Mile Swim the week before the Xterra. It would be a good practice for you in the dark water?
  10. We bought Number 1 and number 2 both Makro specials on their black Friday deals. Brand name to them is really not important to them. If they still enjoy cycling when they are older and want to do it as a sport rather than a hobby then I'll get them proper bikes. So I still need to assemble the bikes on Christmas eve, looking forward to seeing their faces, it's a big upgrade for number 2 as she's off training wheels now and number 1 is already on a 20" but both new bikes now have gears.... I also hinted to the grandparentals to get them new trail helmets. I'm hoping I can make some videos like TheRitz did :-)
  11. TheRitz awesome video dude! Dad goals right there....
  12. Liewe moer.... That guy fell "bones in the light" Many many moons ago there was an MTB race at the Chrysalis School below the Tokai trails, it was awesome a few laps of a great circuit. Anyway as we get to a little drop off, I'm busy positioning myself and the lady stops as she's not ready so there goes my momentum and basically now get ready to drop from a stop start. All of a sudden chommie behind me gives me beef about "ja boet, you're slow get out my way cause I'm liiiiikkkee so much quicker so let me through" So I'm like chill bru you're never going to win this but anyhoo crack the **** on if you really want to... I step out the way, pull my bike to the side chommie drops and then boom "dum dum dum Another bites the dust" well it was raining that morning but boy did he fall hard, worst was that there were spectators on that spot could be for that very reason .... I tried asking if he was ok when he was getting his **** together to get his sorry ass up from there but I was laughing tooooo much to talk....
  13. Does anybody else hum Queens "Another bites the dust" in their head when scrolling through these?
  14. How cool is that??? Damn, how do you even practice for a move like that.... That's some skillz there!
  15. Sorry I knocked your pants dude, the only reason I knocked them was cause I have a pair too and also once decided "hey let me unzip this and use the shorts" well lets say it didn't last long I don't think I even finished unzipping the shorts bit to realise that this was wrong. It would have looked like those rugby shorts the guys used to wear at school in the 90's, you know the one that only covers 37% of your legs, the same shorts that should you not wear undies could leave you a little exposed when sitting down! Not sure about the Table Mountain cops I know there are emergency numbers on the direction boards (Just made a mental note to save the number in my phone next time I'm up there). I ride with Pepper Spray but I've never used it before and also don't know how I would react in the situation. I do know that when I saw said ill dressed walkers I was very alert and I may have over reacted and swore at a squirrel running between trees.
  16. I did the Newlands trail, behind Kirstenbosch to Constantia Nek two weekends ago and did it earlier yesterday morning again. It was a spur of the moment thing so went solo and on both occasions I saw a guy walking alone beanie on the head, backpack jeans etc.... Now I don't want to stereotype here but why the hell would you wear a beanie in summer in Cape Town? also if you're out for a hike then wear some comfortable shorts or those dodgy pants that zip off then become shorts... either way those guys sent a chill down my spine. Two weeks ago I just bombed the climb at the beginning. Yesterday I stopped as there was another rider on the path and I offered to ride with him but he something about he's too slow yadda yadda yadda so I had to ride past the ill dressed walker but then waited further up to see if my slow MTBer made it past ill dressed walker.
  17. Sterkte bru, retail is the devil! I've had my fair share of the retail life and seriously do not miss it. I make a point of thanking those that serve me well (obviously not if you can't be bothered to greet me and serve me like you're doing me a favour then you can go "kruip") but generally the staff that smile and are helpful I thank them for there service and wish them luck over this season when we know year in and year out people loose their **** over the smallest things. As some have already said, try your best to get out and train, you will feel better for it. On your off day and a little lie in but get out on the bike.
  18. I'll be following this topic too as I've also been taken out my a motorist who decided he didn't need to stop at a stop street. I was about 13 years old, the deal was I'd wait after soccer practice at my moms friends house she'd come past hoot and then I'd cycle home in front of her (was only a few blocks away). Two blocks from home some guy just goes straight through a stop street, I saw him coming and instinctively swerved right, fortunately there was no on coming traffic but he still got me. I must have bailed somehow cause my bike ended up under the car I flew up and landed on the bonnet. A couple of hours in the ER and a few days off school and I was back in business. The school announced that I'd be knocked off my bike and it did wonders for my street credit at school, I had lots of the older girls at school who never spoke to me now all of a sudden come and check how I was.... yes I was balling!!!
  19. I once avoided a confrontation with a group of cyclists... I was on my own heading home after a really good ride, the lights up ahead turned red and I cruised up and stopped. This group came up and pushed between myself and the car first at the lights. The light turned green and we all pushed ahead (me safely on the road giving myself enough room away from the gutter but not blocking cars), another rider pushed through between myself and the car and joined the group who now decided to ride infront of the car blocking the road and not allowing the aunty to pass. What happened next was very obvious, the aunty got the moer in HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTEEEEEDDDDD and the group turned around and shouted abuse at her.... And it was at that very moment I decided to shut the *&^$ up, I knew that should I get involved they were going to piss me off, they weren't going to upset my awesome start to the morning... I had a nice ride, I got to watch the sunrise over False bay, I got to witness the quietness of a weekend morning (ok sometimes you see 1 or 3 people walking home with the look of regret on their faces and can't make eye contact but that's a different matter) I just had a really good ride and was heading home looking forward to a nice brekkie too and then this.... So I just shut the hell up and minded my own businesss.... Dumb folk live and breath among us people take care!
  20. Hi Cois, Sorry to hear this, I hope you make a full recovery and are able to get back on your bike sooner rather than later!
