  1. Doubt this event has been mentioned yet? (Plus the Comrades could be a training run towards the 100K race distance... ) Anyone here entered any of these distances? https://capetownfestivalofrunning.org.za/
  2. Joh, you guys all go into taper mode and start reminiscing about reading Cosmo???? Nought, I think it's safer for your mental state if you keep running ekse!
  3. A day per km raced recovery would surely relate to the PROs and their ability to tackle their next race with the same racing intensity? (Or any amateur racer who is looking to give an all out effort in a particular event for that matter)
  4. So for all you chaps struggling with the idea of tapering I've decided to attempt running the Comrades distance over a week, seeing as I'm not doing it. Lets see if I can do 88 kays in 7 days and get a glimpse of what you'll be going through! Gonna aim for slow and steady, as it will be 20 kays more than I ever have done in a week before! I'm on 491 clicks for this year, so should have enough base to take this on! You guys put your feet up and recover while I put mine down!

    RIP NH69....
  6. Good run SeaBee! Well done dude! I had a very frustrating run at CT12 that started out well for the first third and by the 5th K noticed a burning sensation in my lower left leg on the outside edge. By 6 kays it was difficult to ignore so I had to stop and try figure out a stretch of some sort. Was forced to change tactics and figure out a pace to try run to get to the finish without it flaring. Came in 5 minutes slower than last years finish which was a little disappointing, given that my running is much stronger this year, but happy to have finally figured out what the issue is! For any of you with high foot arches, who are embarking on speed training and possibly have sprained an ankle in the past, this is very informative! https://runnersconnect.net/peroneal-tendinitis-tendonitis/
  7. Sharing is caring! Take pics ekse... (You can even use me as your get out of jail card with your missus if she busts you taking the pics!)
  8. No fear bru! You're ready! You've been super consistent and done some big weeks! You've got this!
  9. On another note, in CT we have the FNB ONErun that is coming up this weekend and it seems popular as ever! It's only 12 clicks, but it's a super fast run! Good luck to any CT crew running what should be a sprint effort for you seasoned Comrades clan!
  10. Without knowing all your history as an athlete etc, what I can tell you is that the speed improvements necessary to get under the 5 min a kay mark for anything beyond a 5K is just mental! I have been trying to do it for quite some time and most efforts have me making marginal gains before an overuse injury comes up and then that needs to be dealt with first before making the next press for speed gains. At your current training pace over 5Ks you'll run a 1 hour 55 min 30 seconds half if you keep that average pace up through the entire race. Yes you could run your 5K with a harder effort, but you can't sustain your 5K pace over the full 21 clicks even if you're a seasoned runner. To dip under 1 hour 30 minutes you will need to run at 14km\h or 4 min 16 seconds a kilo pace FOR 21.1KMS!!!! (The bold part is the hard part! Getting to that level of intensity and having the training to sustain it, is a serious challenge!) Good luck with your attempts though! It will require SERIOUS dedication and a whole lot of luck in avoiding injuries!
  11. Welcome to the clan Dexter! Start slow and steady! Aim for consistent efforts rather than one all out training effort. 3 short efforts a week will be far more beneficial to getting your body to adapt than overdoing it in one hard session when you're still beginning. When you run, there are no downhills to freewheel on, to recover....
  12. TRUST the training! Switch the mind off! The legs are primed. Do the odd little leg turner, but focus on the recovery and staying healthy! Eyes on the prize!!!! You can do it!!!!

    Rugby...

Good to see the Lions scratch out a win in a very poor form game!
  14. Right! If the numbers change we publish and lets see who gets there first so to speak! A little extra motivation! Good luck Scott!
  15. Shot a lot! I'll be checking this out too! (Even though I'm not nearly ready for that kind of pace..... yet!)
  16. What's your current PB for those distances Andrew? Mine are: Marathon - 5:35 (that did include a massive amount of walking as the knees were toast though.... CT Marathon 2016) Half - 1:54 (OMTOM 2017) 5K - 22:02 (Greenpoint Parkrun 2016) Fancy a challenge dude??
  17. Sunrise 2 weeks ago doing a run towards Rhodes Mem. Bazza, would've smaaked this one!
  18. Hey Stretch, that's some serious speed you are dropping in that 5K TT effort you did this morning dude! Sub 19 mins is just mental! (My goal is to just once run a sub 20.... )
  19. SNAP! Have an old set of earphones that would turn the volume down on their own so cut off the right ear strand that had the volume adjuster, so it's a permanent left ear only earphone. All runs on my own I use this and listen to 80s tunes...
  20. Yoh! Now there's a thing eh! I'm safe. Confirmed on racetec...
  21. WOW!!!!!!!!! What a talent! The guitar solo piece she absolutely nailed! Fully qualifies as a cover in my eyes! Shot for posting this!
  22. You're not alone! Not running in a good space and not feeling smooth or efficient. Actually feeling slow, but somehow I'm running faster on average than I ever have. Go figure! Gotta trust the training at some point! You are putting in big mileage dude! If your legs were still fresh then you obviously would still be slacking! Embrace the process ekse!
  23. It can be done, but more importantly, how much are you willing to risk to get the finish? You are probably going to be sore when you line up and carry a few niggles that could be ripe for proper injuries, especially if you're targeting a time.
  24. In that case. Nothing beats consistency. If you can run 4 plus times a week and keep that up adding some distance to one of the runs each week, there's nothing stopping you from making those goals real. What is your current weekly mileage?
  25. When is the half? How long do you have? Do you have any specific goals, or is finishing the main aim? Are you carrying any injuries that could be aggravated by increased running efforts?
