  1. Mallo, well organised interclub, the traffic cop sleeping was not your fault. Other than that a good circuit and thanks for the cold drinks after the race and the key ring. Nice touch! Cheers Gary
  2. Dude on the right looks like Francois Steyn
  3. Gypsy I know your frustration. There is always money to send road teams overseas, but track is the poor second cousin in SA. Ask CSA for their monthly financial reports. There are suspossed to be reports for each discipline. These should tell you if there is money, where it is and how it is being spent. I am suprised they say there is no cash, as a 6 week paid for track camp was on the cards for T-Town a couple of months ago for 6 riders. I know they did not go, so where is that money going? An option would be to approach CSA and agree with them (in writing) that if a rider funds him/herself and achieves a medal at a world cup, world champs, commonwealth games or olympic games, then CSA agrees to refund that rider in full, all their expenses incurred in achieving that medal. No medal no refund, or if the rider makes a final a percentage refund. This allows both the rider and CSA to put their money where their mouth is so to speak.
  4. Anyone know if a full set of results is available for the race. ie showing each rider's lap times, and where I can find it on the web? Thanks
  5. I see in the latest CSA newsletter that riders can now race in whatever kit they choose, be it club kit, SA Pro kit, Euro Pro kit, you name it you can race in it. This will apply to all categories except u23/Elites. The onus will now be on clubs and sponsors to monitor what kit their riders race in. Officials will no longer be able to pull a rider out of a race or fine them for incorrect kit. (Remeber this does not apply to u23/Elites). So in theory we could have a very colourful Vets bunch for example, with riders racing in Pro Tour kit if they want. I think it is a good thing, especially if you are not sponsored. Why should you be limited to your club kit, especially if it is not the most well designed piece of kit? This also raises the question about the costs associated with registering club and sponsored kit. There is presumably nothing stopping a group of mates getting together, each buying a set of ASTANA kit for example or having specific kit made, and racing as a team. Maybe this will be an incentive to get more local sponsors into the sport? Food for thought!
  6. Thanks. CSA calendar has it on 21 March. Any racing in the Durban area?
  7. Yes Mampara, minimum resale price maintenance is a form of vertical price fixing by suppliers and is an outright prohibition! There can be no defence for it.
  8. Anyone from KZN got details of McDonald's race on Saturday (21 March) in Durban/Umhlanga?
  9. I find riding on a harder resistence makes it more comfortable.
  10. Good win. You took your shot and it paid off.
  11. Spidy where you in VA? Who chased the break? I really thought we where away with Craig (BPM) Labuscagne Bro (not sure which one, I still have to learn. (Toyota) and Club 100 rider (sorry don't know who he is, but is really strong) OB (DQ'ed out of race 15km into the break) and me (VWE Finishline). We had 1min at the Henley turn. Anyways, I really enjoyed my first outing in VA and looking forward to mixing it up this year.
  12. Did you give your prize money back? I see you came 6th. Can't help but think that becuase it is a TCS rider, there is sympathy from the Hub. I am in the same position as Eben, work 9-5 etc, if I go to the Doc first thing I take out is my drug free sport handbook. You lot where all crying for blood with dopers in the Tour etc, life time bans, and then this guy comes along a cries over spilt milk, throwing himself on the mercy of the HUB and you all sympathise will him. Hypocrits!!!!!!!!! Embarrassing to say the least. Eben, I hope I never race against you ever again. Gary Rabie2009-01-16 08:09:55
  13. From CSA website DOPING SUSPENSIONS Eben Van Wyk tested positive for Ephedrine at the Bakwena Super Classic - was found guilty and suspended from 14th January to 14th July 2009 both dates inclusive. George De Gouveia tested positive for Ephedrine at the Telkom Satellite Event -was found guilty and suspended from 14th January to 14th July 2009 both dates inclusive. Last Updated ( Thursday, 15 January 2009 ) Isn't Eben Van Wyk a TCS rider? Why only a 6 month suspension?
  14. +- R450 each depending on size
  15. Alex at Northcliff cycles has a few in stock. I got them from the Graham Watson agent here in JHB. Alex is the only other perosn I know who has them. He is quite a few of Armstrong if you like him. They are not cheap, but well worth the moeny if you like this kind of stuff.
  16. Just got these back from framers. Always wanted to have some of Watson's work, so a perfect Xmas pressie to myself!
  17. I wonder if all of you who get so bent out of shape about not being greeted, greet the garden boys, school kids and workers etc riding their bikes when you pass them, or they pass you. If not, why? I am sure you will say you do so as not to be seen to be a hipocryte. I wonder where this habit of greeting started? It definatley was not around when I started riding in the 80's. Do you greet other drivers when in your car, or only those driving the same car as you? Makes no sense to greet on your bike and not in your car, what's the difference? Oh so polite on your bikes but maybe a frothing animal behind the wheel? These greeting topics always crack me up. I can just imagine the indignation, "How very dare that roadie/MTB/garden boy/school kid not greet me!!!" HA HA
  18. Hey Troy, good to hear from you. Of course I remember you and the HUTCH boys. (I will never forget Michael Fikkerts crash at Sun City where he snapped his leg). I still need to scan some of my old pics and post them here. Really good memories. I also have a few old national programs and pics from when the yanks where out here. Talking about slogans on the back of racing pants, I had "U Loze" on mine. When I showed my wife the pics and she saw that she said I must have been an arrogant little sh!t. I disagreed, just confident! By the way, you got any old school BMX parts lying around you would consider selling to me?
  19. Zoon, do you know who Christoff van Heerden is riding for next year?
  20. 2 years ago at the Bakwena Classic, Alex Pavlov and I were heading to the start. OB asks if we had anything he could use to rub on his legs. We didn't so he rolled over to the Konica car and asks the same question. "No" came the reply "we only have Q20 spray". OB took the can and sprayed it on his legs. CLASSIC STUFF!!!
