  1. Great for the future of SA Cycling ! Now Micheal Hirschfeld will have too cycle from his home in Llandudno, to the new office/warehouse in Paarden Eiland.......???? #ebike #giantbikes
  2. Nope....actually still doing some work for selected JHB based stores.....you guys need to get hold of Doug Patterson.
  3. Great stuff......what happened to one of the most knowledgeable & experienced wheel builders in Africa....Doug Patterson ? Sure you guy can get him to assist. #getdougback #dtswiss
  4. Morning Robert Great explanation to what seems to be a very "deliberate" attempt too sell you something, based on incorrect information. If he's being unreasonable in the repayment (which is all done electronically), then you need to report him to BikeHub Admin. If you feel you can resell the item for the price you invested, do so (sans the thru axle). Make sure to give the Seller 5 working days too initiate a refund. Good luck.
  5. I'm privileged to be able to "test drive" a set of the new First Ascent Podium kit (bib + jersey). My First impressions were not overwhelming, since I feel the packaging could have been nicer, for the money being charged. Possibly a nice branded string bag or something, would make it a little special.....? Bib - it has good fit, just cut slightly high infront, so not as easy to take a leak as with other brands (read Assos, Santini, etc.). The chamois padding felt bulkier on my first fitting, but then I compared it with other brands (read Assos) & it's similar thickness. The Lycra feels like quality, but only time & more washing will tell. Stitching is top notch, with no irritation any wear. On the bike, I settled in right from the go & never needed to readjust or felt uncomfortable. Washing - Quick drying including the chamois. So can be used everyday, during summer. Jersey - The material is super light weight, so it doesn't feel like you're wearing anything. It's a very good cut/fit very similar to other brands (read Rapha). On the bike, I wore a quality under shirt, so not must sweat reached the jersey material, so this including the flow thru the jersey made for very comfortable dry rides. My only question - is the kit worth top $$$$ ? I don't think so, First Ascent has a excellent product, but need to use it to build their brand awareness via pricing, under clients who would have invested in European brands. Still a move in the right direction !!
  6. Received my set of Podium kit for testing. Looks like great quality material & construction, so let's see how it fits & goes during actual rides over the next weeks. #lekkerpodiumride #firstascent
  7. Yes I must admit, the Assos S5 range is probably the most durable range they produced, everything afterwards was made to be "replaceable". They also supplied chamois cream & Assos wash with the S5 range of bibs....now that's all "extras". See if you can find a good pair of Uno or Mille S5 bib shorts.
  8. Does charl_i_am work for First Accent if you were involved in the "testing" ? I believe the way you wash/care for your bib is the most important way of making sure it'll last years. I own Assos Uno (entry level) bibs that are almost 8yrs old & have no issues. I do wash them by hand directly after my rides & then hang on a clothes rack to dry.

  10. What I find works best for me (and my Assos bibs), is to have a bucket with warm water & tablespoon of liquid Omo, in the shower. So straight after my ride my kit goes into the bucket, then hand washed & hung on a clothing rack. This way I've had Assos shorts last me 6-8yrs ! Machine washing & leaving kit all sweaty in a washing basket for days, is what "kills" synthetic fabrics quickly ! P.S. - I have noticed that Ciovita are using a similar designed chamois as the old Assos Uno bibs & I think that's a great thing.....if you can't beat it, copy & use it !!
  11. Here's the email for the Mavic agent in CT Gavins@dragons.co.za Hope this of assistance.
  12. Howzit Gents I must admit I've enjoyed the Assos S5 Uno bib design & fit for years, unfortunately it is not manufactured any longer. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Ciovita is now using the exact replica of the Assos S5 Uno chamois, but with the new Assos S7 design shoulder straps. Excellent fit & value in Ciovita, where I do where Large in Assos, I find XL in Ciovita fits great. PS. 1) To "newbies" remember not too wear any underwear under your bibs, that could make a very pricey pair of bib short, feel very uncomfortable after long rides. 2) Always try hand wash your kit or at least your bib shorts, directly after your ride (I keep a bucket of soap water in my shower) & line dry. It should last many years ! Happy trails !
  13. The Village Roaster in the Farm Village, Noordhoek, CT where the owner Guy does a awesome coffee for R15 !! NOT Cycle Friendly is Houtbay Coffee Roaster, Paul the owner is very unaccommodating & the security at that Houtbay complex expect cyclists to dismount & push their bikes on the roads thru the centre....what a joke !
  14. I heard that all the This Way Out stores in CT area are closing end of Feb. Shame a pity since the staff are really excellent.
