  1. Had mine for 5 years. No rust. ????‍♂️
  2. "Traditional aerobic base training needs to go the way of the dodo." Interesting article challenging the thinking around base training, and how to build an effective base when time is limited. https://trainright.com/why-cyclists-and-triathletes-need-to-stop-talking-about-base-training/
  3. There was a really tough rocky climb last year that was not included this year, which is a pity. Really wanted to re-do it this year. But otherwise, a nice route. I was in the same boat; unseeded, so a good 15-20 mins of delays. Will try be seeded next year.
  4. Was a fun ride. The one bottleneck was ridiculous, but otherwise flowed well. The route was easier, a lot of tar. But the northerners single track was good. And the weather was fantastic. All in all, glad I did it.
  5. You meant to get the chip when you collect the race pack. However , they won’t check that your bike has a chip tomorrow. Just means you won’t have an official time or any time for that matter. You can still ride
  6. Or so https://bike-addict.co.za/collections/fox-clothing/products/fox-ranger-shorts ?

  8. 750m of climbing in the 55km race.
  9. Horror. Start time: 08:18 No longer looking forward to that. Pity I could not do any races to get seeded
  10. That is the one. Was cooking up a there. A number of people walked it.
  11. I did this race last year. Nothing very technical. What made it really hard was the heat. It was around 35 degrees last year. There are some rocky climbs in the last 20kms that test the legs too. Last year was 850m of climbing over 56km. So about the same as Modders if you extend your ride or repeat a few climbs. It was the unwavering heat that made it challenging. Lots of unshaded parts where you just bake. I suffered from cramp in the race, which I put down to the heat and hydration. I won't make that mistake again! Did I mention it was fricken hot?
  12. Hope he/she is OK. Not sure what maintenance can be done on that section.it has some ruts but it's actually a lot tamer compared to previous years. Make it any more gentle, and you going to have to start paving the single track. It can be a tricky descent there. Some of the events don't use that section and use tar road back down.
  13. Will go and ask them to do the same. Such a pain to correct it every time.
  14. The simpler, the easier it is to stick to : https://breakingmuscle.com/healthy-eating/how-to-eat-for-all-day-energy-and-athletic-performance In a nutshell: Reduce insulin spikes during the day by reducing carbs until the evening. This is a basic template to start from and tweak. You can always experiment from here. Introduce fasted mornings (intermittent fasting or IF) or adjust carbs on long ride days etc
  15. Indola gets my vote. Got two pairs. Both serve me well
  16. You just saved me a ton of trouble. And swearing. Plenty swearing.
  17. I’m going to go attempt it tomorrow morning. Will head off 7:30am. Does concern me to do it on my own - would hate to crash on a section that is not really used by people !
  18. How did it go? I broke my collarbone so was just a spectator. Looked muddy!
  19. Broke my collarbone so I'm out. Partner also out Two entries up for grabs...
  20. Thanks for the well wishes. Just hit a jump at speed. Wasn't leaning back. Straight over handlebars and crash boom bang. Collarbone snapped and one bone moved under the other.
