  1. So after 8 years on my trusted Scalpel that enjoyed many an upgrade during that time. Probably could have bought another two with the money spent. I was given a no brainer trade in at my LBS on the purchase of this beauty. Switched over my crank and power meter, the Spez Saddle and the Riser Bars and boy she is a super machine. As comfy as can be, with very different handling. Have subsequently change the rubber to something that rolls a little quicker and easier for the longer flatter rides.
  2. Half as easy, you still have to either get to the start or from the finish, depending on where you live. From PE it was pretty costly!
  3. Yes, it certainly is an event that I will never forget. We have many chats about those 9 days. The thing is, apart from the pretty hefty entry fee, the cost of the logistics is at the very least an additional R15k. Flights, accommodation before and after, bike transport and services, etc.
  4. Bordering on a top guy then! ????
  5. Don't think so, the top guys are just way ahead.
  6. 61st, roughly 27 sec behind Greg.
  7. Spot on!
  8. Is it just me or are there others that get a tad irritated when receiving an email advertising an event and when you pop into the website, you pretty much have to go through the entry process before you can find the pricing? Why not just say upfront- For just R6500.00 you can enjoy a 3 day ride in the heart if the wherever! Then I’ll decide whether I want to spend the next 15 minutes reading the where and when!
  9. When your wake up tells this message, your bike takes you nowhere! ????
  10. Up to the Cliffs at Morgan Bay from Kei Mouth!
  11. Just for discussion, but Insurance is an interesting angle.
  12. Some of you may have seen the Trigger and his Broom episode on Only Fools and Horses and this got me thinking as to where my Lefty is relative to Trigger's Broom. All that is from the original bike purchased in 2013 is: The Lefty Fork, The seatpost Clamp, The front Hub and the Crank. Replacements include: Frame, Rear Shock, Rims & Spokes, Brakes, Handle Bars, Stem and Steerer Tube, Dropper Post, Saddle, Brakes, 12 Speed Shimano, Grips.
  13. We have XT and SLX on our bikes. SLX freewheel hub been replaced due to failure and turning into a fixie. XT has had the same problem and I have replaced with Hope 4 and await the replacement Hub from CWC/Shimano. In my view the best combo is XT shifter, XT or SLX Derailleur, SLX Cassette and Shimano Chain. That Shimano Micrspline is too complex for a MTB.
  14. Both my wife and I use Rudi Projects, they work perfectly. Also you can wear the glasses without the inserts too. Assuming you can see without the inserts, say with contacts for example.
  15. I use this https://www.takealot.com/action-mounts-aluminium-handle-bar-bike-mount/PLID42525506?gclid=Cj0KCQiAtqL-BRC0ARIsAF4K3WEM0AXKMpUX6B_tn4ci4tg4ByJW9IdbbX0wZpavyW_pU202JQJQHkMaApYlEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds mount and the attachment provided with the Bontrager light to fit in a GoPro type fitting. Works well.
  16. This is THEE sexiest bike I have ever seen!
  17. Every Saturday, weather permitting. If there is a large event like Herald Ccyle tour, then it is usually cancelled for that day.
  18. I haven't read the whole thread, but have also had size fluctuation. With so-called top brands, 2XU jumps to mind. However, we as a training group have recently (on two occasions) bought custom cycling kits from SISU. Now that is a top brand. Great bibs and super quality tops. Sizing spot on! Highly recommended.
  19. I may have missed the comment, but will the 10 speed shifter work with 11 or 12 speed, doubt it? I had to upgrade from 11 to 12.
  20. 21-180-42, gives me a cold shiver! I spent almost the same time ‘running’ as I did riding last year. I too am seriously doubtful November will happen, but luckily deferred to March. Even March could be in doubt. Meanwhile we focus on Trans Baviaans in Jan??
  21. Interesting! Locally (Port Elizabeth) the local S outlet has recently spent some significant money with help from S to pretty much create a Concept Store. Similar to what Giant have done in some areas. George Western Cape and Shelley Beach South Coast KZN spring to mind.
  22. Prep ..... The cream or Prep_arations?
  23. Each to their own but ........ If you have a 10 cent head then buy a 10 cent helmet!
  24. I have 12spd XT on my Scalpel and 12spd SLX on my wife's Stumpjumper. We both ride 34 oval up front. We both moved from XT 1x11 and the difference is unbelievable. The shifting is super smooth in both directions. Must admit the SLX is also pretty good but the XT just a tad better. Loving 12 Speed!
  25. I have a similar story, but had already entered so deferred to 2021. Quite keen now to do it in 2020, hope I can move it back if the running is OK. I would imagine they need a little time to update their records as some pull out or deferr.
