  1. I use them when Im really tired of If there are big climbs late in a race. I estimate how long I'll be in the saddle for. For me, I know I start suffering after 3 hours. I will count back from my estimated finishing time in half hours and carry one GU for every half hours, though I will Only use them If I need it. then I'll have some gu"s in the last hour or hour and a half in 4-5 hour races.
  2. Hey- hey.. I was cruizing with youguys a bit at some stage. (the skinny guy that talked so much k@k on the morewood. Your legs must be toast today.. I had a Deezaster of a race.. Not that I was ever going to kook it with only a couple of 1:30 rides as prep but In my unfit state. Lourensford 2011 was the last race I done, and the last time Ive been in any kind of shape. I did a "warmup" saturday morning and followed my usual routine which incorporated a few bursts of speed to get the muscles shapp ( this worked wonders when I was still riding 10-15 hours a week 18 months ago. But all it did for me yesterday was leave me with dead legs at 10 km In.. I suffered the entire ride. Normally One starts suffering after 2:30 or 3 hours. My heartrate was cruising low and I was hardly out of breath at times but the legs were in pain from 15 minutes in.. ****.. I was definately going to take the 38km route but The split came on the downhill and way earlier than I expected (12km?) So I missed it.. man.. I have never felt so weak and had to dig so deep mentally to not want to pull out. But then I just made piece with the fact that I had to just spin and spin and granny gear away in my 28-34t.. Glad I went on to do the long route, training for Eselfontein
  3. Ah Crap, those photo's are massive. Sorry lads.

  8. Funny the post on page one does not even mention Berto.. Surely with 3 classified climbs he has to be in for a chance? Although they are not long enough for him to really make a difference. If Wiggo and Froom was here we would have been in for a BIG show.
  9. Heres a bit of info on the TTT... No Rainbow Jersey There’s no rainbow jersey. Instead the team gets “the distinctive logo” for the following year and this is not for the six riders on the day, it is shared with the whole team. Here’s the UCI rulebook: The world champion team of the UCI Team Time Trial shall wear the distinctive logo on their jerseys in all road events from 1 January until 31 December in the year following the World Championship event. The world champion in the individual time trial is not authorised to wear the world champion’s jersey during team trial events. The world champion team of the UCI Team Time Trial shall wear the distinctive logo on their jerseys in all road events from 1 January until 31 December in the year following the World Championship event. So teams will get a special logo for their jersey and this will be worn in all events the following year, not just time trials but ordinary road races and everyone racing in the team jersey. If a rider leaves the team then they don’t get anything for next year. Indeed theoretically it’s possible for the six riders who win the title on Sunday to leave the team over the winter but the squad will wear the logo the following year. I salute the TV commentators who will have to explain this again and again next year. Quite what the “distinctive logo” will be remains to be seen, presumably a play on the rainbow stripes trademarked by the UCI. History -The inner ring http://inrng.com/201...ips/#more-10881
  10. this is what his competitors thought.. “Purito” ..“To tell the truth, I didn’t expect this today, but when I saw how Saxo Bank was riding today, I knew they were up to something,” a gracious Rodríguez said. “What Alberto did today was something spectacular. Sure, I will be sad about it later, but today we lived something for the history books. And he did it dos cojones.” Froom... “It’s been interesting watching Contador attack during this Vuelta,” Froome told VeloNews during Tuesday’s rest day. “He makes intense attacks, these short, intense bursts. No one else races like him.” no sour grapes from his peers..
  11. Heres an article bout longo... http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/tiralongo-dedicates-second-giro-stage-victory-to-contador
  12. I think it was Tiralongo who stood up for Berto all allong.. they rode on astana together and are good friends.. Rods was caught with his "rods" around his ancle today.. He should have known Alberto was capable of this.. In his younger days he won several "hilly" stages by attempting solo breaks.. The boy has guts, spirit and BALLS...thats why I love him!! Hitting the refresh tab this morning after not having time/bothering watching last night was like... huh.. NOW WAYS!! Alberto my BOY!!!
  13. I was taking a guess looking at the graph.. that Hill was way way steeper than Kloofnek.. some bits 15 and 23% ! faark.. Anyone ever cycled up Belvue street, thats that steep hill that joins kloofnek from town side @ halfway up.. that is 22% I RODE IT ONCE.. ON MY 39-25T I KAKKED
  14. For us mere mortals thats a climb that is roughly equivalent to kloofnek which is by no means easy in 39 x 23..
  15. Contador looked like he was riding with meaning.. the way he was attacking out the saddle all the time looked like the Berto of old and I would like to see him get some form and attempt a long solo breakaway in one of the 3last mountain days.. It wont be easy.. But he might give it a shot although he doesnt need to. Ive been pondering what wattage these guys must push out.. and looking at Contador's out the saddle style vs froom I draw 2 conclusions.. Berto has massive Vo2Max.. and Froom might have a higher sustainable power output.. nice to speculate..
  16. just a reference... I cant find the pics of my old fave..
  17. This really is a cool thread. I took up road riding/racing about 5 years ago and the first thing I thought after riding the Karoo to coast (even Knysna 85km) was, I could do these races on roadbike! Im sure one would habve to run a mtb casette on there as you would *** bricks having to ride up some of the climbs in Mtb races.. But really.. I would love to give it a shot.. I have not been using my roadbike so I sold it a month ago.. but this now looks like a worthey new project. (I cnan already hear the wife sigh) I did a comparison up Kloofnek to see how much longer it would take me on my Mtbike the other day. and where It would take me 9-10 minutes in 39-25t It took me 12minutes in 28-26 most of the time. theres about a 4kg difference in weight and there must be a higher road friction.. My point... how do these cx bikes fair in offroad and what are they like on the road.. I guess slap bang in the middle?
  18. Ah, sorry Youre right.. (berto taking time back from Chris) I know Berto Is a fine TT er but Chris has been very strong.. will be amazing to watch! This race is most defiantely set to be spectacular!
  19. Jeezlike scotty you obviously cant stand Contador.. I think after wednesday Froom will be in the lead by maybe up to a minute over Contador as he has half a minute now, and will gain another 30seconds in the TT RODRIGUEZ & VALVERDE might be 2 minutes down unless they can pull something out the hat.. then its game on.. the last week is going to be carnage..
  20. I think Contador might be a little underdone In general this early in his season.. I really home he had a bad day and is will ride into form..
  21. Peleton thing? Froom A bit like a introvert cyclist?
  22. Quite right.. If Froom gets home in 1st, then I think we might be entering a new era... And I'll take my hat off to him. He is an easy guy to like although his GF Michelle got me a bit worked up during the tour with her tweets. You guys musnt forget the Maestro that Contador is..the guy is probably a little fresh him self but I just love how he gets to work.. Those little attacks on the other guys were probably a combination of testing the legs, testing the competitors and testing how the guys will feel the next day.. Dont for one moment think those were full on attacks on the first stage of the race.. He was attacking and prob looking back to see where froomdog was, then easing up.. testing the other guys at the same time.. Why I suspect those were half arsed attacks? because the littlebit of a team that he has will have to drive a peleton from the first day If he did get away and take the stage.. they will be spent in the last week and he really will be on his own then.. I say no chance he would play his cards after the first day.. he's just confusing them as they are all wondering what we are
  23. Haha.. never thought about that!! I would have had ensomnia for a month..
  24. So Lets go on a night ride!!
  25. Images like the above drove fear into my mind that night.. but seriously, have you ever came across something that runs that fast through bush.. Is black (no not bushmen ) lives deep in knysna forrest and then stands 2.5m tall on 2 legs?! I was in disbelief I tell you.. So I had to dramatise that last bit but ones mind is incredibly fast and thoughts fly around in split seconds.. So the thing was a horse.. there was a pack of wild horses running next to us in the forrest and then up ahead one of them lay dead, dont know why.. and the other horses standing around the dead horse obviously got the fright of their lives when we came flying down and locking our brakes which also masked the sound of the horses which might have given it away.. further Morne's lights only shone on the body of the horse and the head was kind of out of the beam shot.. You get the Idea, but It was by far the scardest I had ever been In my Life..
