  1. Ya the swimming part is n bit of a let down. Its actually just more waterproof. I dont have the option to buy new though, so I had to do the "upgrade" So I went with it. It seems the 310xt is a better product, maybe a bit more refined and a bit more evolved. the Battery time is cool as One dont always have time to charge at multi day events or just trekking. My 306 gave me lots of crap, and a mate of mine's aswell. so. lets see
  2. Ok so I went and got the 310 xt. I just dont want to kick myself in 12months time. Cant wait! getting it friday.
  3. I've read that thanks Thumper. Thing is the unit doesnt track whilst under water, so It doesnt work properly when you do swim with it. so you stil need to put it in the back of your swimcap.. So im asking myself that waterproofe plus the extended battery time is the only real bennefits.
  4. My Forunner 305 is bust, so Im given the option to get a new 305 for R1000 or upgrage to the 310xt for about double that. Is the Xt really worth the extra bucks.? Ive read up on them both. I need to make a call this morning so I can still get it by friday before the 2day dace the weekend and the holidays in general.
  5. My Garmin has been in for repairs for some time now, I havnt thought of heart rate related stuff for a while, I almost forgot about it. My resting is 48 and my max 184bpm Im 29 4 days ago. I get my HR up into 90's very easy and have to go super easy to keep it in the 80% zone. but my max isnt that high. Different strokes for different folks
  6. sheesh Bikemonster you make this sound like a lifelong struggle and no certan success at the end.. Im sure there will be seats that work for a "roughly similar build" if there ever was something like this. have not personally tried one but many swear by Gobi's for mtb's, and they are not all exactly the same build. But you make some valid points, and there is truth in your long term trial and error theory. And it can be expensive! In my eyes a good saddle is a flat firm saddle, It musnt have a rocker, and not to much padding. Though im quite a skinny oke I like a broadish nose that is slightly squared off. Im riding a Tundra on my Mtb. Have been for 18 months. It took about 10 months for my bum to really get use to the pressure on the tailbones but I have never experienced my man-parts go numb. Im using a Planet X team saddle on my roady which is similar to the Arione, I think I might invest in an actual Arione, as Many racers with my "fizik" scuse the pun, have had good results with it. The Planet X I have has a hide strip down the middle and I find it sticks to my short and causes friction giving me saddle sores if in the saddle for long time. I found Specialised BG seats do not work for me at all. Maybe Its also a case of getting use to it, but I cant imagine having to get use to a seat that is so uncomfortable that I cant stay on it for 30 minutes. It might be cool to post ones build and tailbone width so that Others can try what worked for similar body tipes.
  7. true that, but the races were only half the distance.. I remember the Knysna race was 32 and 42km, Rhodes was also 42 or something, and it scared us ! not that that should make a big difference to gearing... it just dropped the bar.. fat people can now also ride Mtb and you dont need much skill to participate in big races. I was chatting to okes about that this morning, how there use to be at least a couple of "unridable" sections on the races around knysna when I was high school(1995-1999) Like mineshaft style stuff. When was the last time you rode down somewhere with your chest on your seat? and we had 51mm of travel with flat bars. But these days everything is ridable (because they dont want to scare the beginners) I miss the old days.. we had Giant Yukon's and wtb or IRC mithos tires! Fork boots were a must and threadless headset was a buzzword. V- brakes were awsome and toeclips was still widely used. those days are over..
  8. I might be getting one of these for christmass.. now I dont know about you bunch but just looking at this thing makes my feel like a dirty old man. Im going to rape the crap out of Tokai singletrack. (please take that with a pinch of salt) It makes me want to ride!
  9. Err.. Im jelous. Cant wait for new colours though, but you made this work. That frame is such a piece of art when I held one in my hand the otherday my Zula wouldnt talk to me for 2 weeks. And My credit card spontaniously fell out of my poket. Im holding out for that big paycheck and the day someone sells a Nomad Carbon on here for 10k
  10. ya saw it yesterday, that frontflip off the wall onto that grass bank right in the beginning kind of caught me offguard, I was dumbstruck! Also the gaps the laaitie clears, such confidence in knowing exactly whats going to happen and absolutely no doubting in any of the moves, otherwise its Hospital for you!

    Riding in MUD

good advive from morewood mad.... Ive heard of people spraying release agent like spray and cook on frame and tires, Id maybe try that.. Run full lenth cable outers with seals at the end. dont use front brakes on offcam slick corners best is break before the corner and roll through. make sure you have metal sintered brake pads.
  12. I got this little hil behind my house.. Bellevue street, It links kloofroad to kloofnec at about halfway. I rode it one day after some hill repeats up cableway drive. That bugger almost cost me my life! as a whole its not so impressive, 70m over 550m but the thing is the first 300m is about 10% and then It ramps up and the last 50m is about 20% It blows your Legs off. I was stiff the next day.. I went and rode the hills I always Mtb in knysna when I was down there last time.. The one going up Simola especially, its the first steep guy in the 85km Rotary Mtb Race at the Oysterfestival.. Its not that steep, but also kicks to about 12% at a stage, let me tell you I was glad it was over. I also have all 3 directions of kloofnec somewhere, From town Is definately the toughest..I'll post it now.. First is simola hill Knysna, then Belvue in capetown, Without a doubt the toughest hill in town
  13. yip, I just dot one. very nice, Id get it for sure

  18. I just watched those clips again, check how DODGE "the claw's" run is..the second drop...if he didnt stick that he was down that huge clif on his bum! on the other hand, Gee is very smooth , I agree, and that stepdown hip, the landing is HARD! you come down there you shatter, not powdery like the other.. I do like Zinks "Moto whip" at the bottom aswell.
  19. Haha you tuning me! I get what youre on about Capricorn I think the "tricsters" were also quite out of their depth on some of these huge lines, nobody does this kind of stuff in their sleep, so nailing 360's etc on stuff with such long airtime is no easy feat. Anyway, lets not split hairs, wasnt my intension..Its bloody awsome either way, and I must say I prefer a smooth whipped line above a tricked out sketchy ne, so let me not fight for the wrong party
  20. DARN Look how close Gee came to the cliff on that transfer! that was nailed so precise! wow. guess thats why they gave him 2nd. I love the vid in the interview with Cam Zink, where he mentioned they put more rebound on his rear suspension so he wouldnt get bounced off the bottom, or something like that, it clearly worked. Pitty romaniac crashed, I love his balls to the walls "sending" in the videos. Man these guys go BEEEG! shot for the photos guys.
  21. I think the reason the guys "trick'ng" all the jumps are not so smooth is because they are tricking them..Im just saying..
  22. Kiff. I'll see how long I last, never take it slow though
  23. mm ok, lets try next week, I finish up at this "working 2 jobs vibe" friday, so I can then do what I want, Bos is Boss. hehe.. cool bro, Im going to take you up on it. What time you ride? Oh and go easy on my, My loungs are in bad state lately Ive ridden 4-5 times a weel the last 5 months and then since this work story Ive ridden 3 times since Karoo to coast:lol: I know youre a devil, but I'll take you down on the downhills!
  24. Nice, I feel like riding that Zula of mine To fast now. goody. Such a nice day, I love riding wet trails(not getting wet though) I find one rides better lines in the wet cause theres less traction, makes sense? less twitch thats all. Russel I need to be "shown" around somewhere around that other 40km oneday.. Ive only ridden Magic! cant beleve it.

    32 vs 34

Kakstories! I just dont eat as much as you : ) No Im just joking.. I think It comes down to what you are use to, like riding in a hard gear is common on a roadbike, and It hasnt killed anyone ..but as some okes said, that last steep climb of a long race or the 5th day of a stage race..well, you decide. most Mtb races take longer to compleat than road races. I often find that I cant even balance when going up something steep enough to use the 32t, and when I am going up steep technical stuff Im trying to keep momentum therefore using about 28t which is around the same as my current 34-11 and 26t chainring maximum. I am hardly a top 10% finisher but as mentioned, there are very different riders here, and very different goals..
