  1. I had a brilliant Pirates 21km run today. With 5km to go I realised I could possibly go sub 1h40 but missed it with 6 seconds. Best run I have ever had. Legs just wanted to Go the entire way.
  2. I see a local made a 100k YouTube subscribers Happy for him https://youtu.be/ZVEKCL6m2FI
  3. Cool Ideas 2020 Trail Running Series - Kloofzicht Code of Conduct Don’t trash the organisers on Social Media – have the balls to chat to them first. If racing, follow the arrows – not the person in front of you.Being my very first trail run I decided to actually listen during the race briefing. The organiser saying that every year runners goes off the route and he doesn't understand it as he walks the route and its impossible to lose the trail as its clearly marked. My take-away being that you must an idiot to go off trail. Well clearly Im an idiot as my 25km run turned into a 30km run. I ran the first 20k on my own with no other runner in sight expect for the odd time where I would catch someone and overtake them. So I didnt blindly follow anyone. With the late 7am start I realised something is up as I was still far away from my car, my watch showing 25km and the sun doing its best to make sure the temperature is sitting at a nice 30C. With an empty camel back I was not amused. Luckily Im fit at the moment and the trail itself was really amazing and I was enjoying the run. It was just a bit a mental stumble when you ought to be done but you still have a parkrun to go. My road running tekkies were perfect as the terrain was not rough at all , and dry so grip was also never a problem. From the results page it seems like only the first 6 runners ran the correct route, everyone else after them ran 30km. Even at the last water table the Bavaria girls were directing runners the wrong way. Its takes one person to flip an arrow board 180deg to make everyone run 5km further. On Monday morning I was more stiff after my 25km trail run than the marathon I ran the week before :-)
  4. I entered my first ever trail event on Sunday. I have never ran a trail before Do I really need to fork out R2k tomorrow for trail shoes or will a pair of my road shoes get me trough it?
  5. Being a 100kg runner myself it would really be an achievement going sub 3 on a Marathon
  6. Managed a C seeding at Johnson Crane. Just had a awesome run. Legs were turning over and miles just flew by. Wish all my runs could go like today.
  7. I popped into the one on Hendrik Potgieter for the first to time on the weekend to buy some run training kit. Not a single XL pants or a single pair of socks for size 10 or larger. Drove all the way for nothing. Huge store with no stock. Rather pathetic.
  8. What watch face is loaded currently. Had a friend with a battery draining issue and turned out it was software related due to the 3rd party watch face. But it was not severe as 4hours it was like more 4 days I stead of 7 days In your case its most probably the battery
  9. Managed a 2:51 at RAC Tuff one. Not as good as I hoped but I must lose a few more Kg's if I want to run faster times. Dragging a 100kg up all those hills are not fun.
  10. Haha mananged that last year. Feeling much fitter this year. Maybe 2:45
  11. I'm pretty scared. I wish I knew what my stupid brain has in store for my poor body on Sunday I ran the first 26km on the route two weeks ago with a few mates. I forgot how brutal it gets from 17k onwards
  12. Hearing is the sense that keeps me alive running on our roads. You hear a car/truck /taxi approaching before seeing it. Even on road races the amount of irrate taxis and motorist who simply ignore the marshals and drive trough intersections are unreal. With headphones my concentration would be elsewhere and I won't hear the Marshall shouting at me to watch out. But for threatmill or track running music is great. I prefer the sound of nature when I do trails so no headphones there either.
  13. Obviously you should never ever run out in public with headphones. But for threatmill sessions these one are the only headphones that have been able to survive my sweaty head https://m.takealot.com/plantronics-backbeat-fit-power-wireless-earphones-blue/PLID44098453?gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=Cj0KCQiA5dPuBRCrARIsAJL7oejbR6xX9oc8kMoadK13tuOyYj4PWaaWKH-D-t6jZenFoDJyCt-jAh4aAl6oEALw_wcB
  14. Product review time Seeing that I do almost all of running in the dark on Johannesburg Streets having good lighting is essential . Especially if you are forced to move onto side walks with missing drain covers and big pot holes. Over the years I have owned quite a number of different headlights. Being a sweater I do kill headlights. My main requirements for a good headlight include 1) waterproof / aka sweat proof 2) rechargable 3) not to bright or dimable with a wide beam. No use blinding oncoming motorist 4) light and a good fit to my head. I don't want my light to fall off charging for a Strava segment Back in the day my old Petzel used to be my favorite headlight. I then went trough a few Led lenses. The Led lense H8R actually survived the longest so far. About two month ago I imported a Nitcore HC65 after my Led Lenser died. With the HC65 I also ordered a small NU05 for the back. So far this thing is awesome. Built like brick. Feels like it will last forever. The claimed 3400 mAh battery easily sees me through the week without requiring a recharge on the setting I run with. But it's big and heavy. It comes with a very good headstrap and that secures it but this will not work for most runners. I have a big head so its all good. So what trigger this post? I was browsing Facebook market place and stumbled on an advert for a HC65 at a really good price. Obviously not imported trough the local distributor but hard not to concider
  15. Exactly My hero status was short lived
  16. Yes it would be a painful experience with bells ringing for an entire race
  17. Haha Let's see if this works : https://strava.app.link/ctHSq8io7Y https://strava.app.link/gyb7pXko7Y
  18. Useless post to follow Since I started running again to lose weight I have never managed a CR on Strava. Ever. No matter how hard I tried. My 100kg physique doesnt help my cause. Also so many super athletes in Johannesburg. I was supposed to run the Vitality 21km yesterday but wasn't able to go trough on Saturday to do a substitution. Instead I did comfortable 20km run with friends sprinting two known Strava segments. Later on checking Strava I noticed a kudos from Grant Johnson. Then is saw why both sprints were new CRs and I took the one from him. I couldn't share this with anyone else because even my wife will be like what the hell are talking about, but sometimes something so meaningless can put a smile to your face.
  19. Saterday project, turning an unused backroom into a small workroom Did a quick sketch up design Friday evening. Picked up the wood from Chamberlain Saterday morning and completed everything before the sun was down. The metal sheet wrapped around table top took me 2 hours with a hammer. The table is 2m wide but look smaller due to the panorama picture All the material came in under R2k
  20. I'm also usually in a spot of bother round the 36km mark. Thats when Im in the its only a park run to go mode (last km doesn't count)
  21. Yip me too not a single quality run since Comrades due to exercise-induced bronchoconstriction. But mine is probably due to the quality air up here in the big smog of Johannesburg. Trying a new pump tomorrow hopefully it helps. Terrible feeling having a fat kid sit on your chest when you trying to run.
  22. It would depend on your goals. Not all runners are ultra marathon crazies. Loads of sensible people stick to 21km and shorter races only. But the ultra marathon runners will all do at least 80km weeks with the top guys even going to 120km weeks.
