  1. I was riding up the main road, in the yellow line, couple of weeks back - and a car came up behind me and hooted at me ! can you f$%^&ing handle that ! I moved over as he was a bit too close for comfort and he passed. I noticed he turned off into the shopping centre ahead - so I put in a good sprint and caught up with him in the parking lot. He saw me stop behind his double cab and it took a couple of minutes before he got out. He sheepishly tried to avoid looking at me but I went right upto him and explain :- "Listen D!CKHEAD, how dare you hoot at me in a yellow lane !" He replied that I needed to move over or he would have run me down. I went ballistic.. "LISTEN HERE YOU P@#$% - It is illegal for cars and bikes to ride in the yellow lane - it is an emergency lane !! We as cyclist break the law so that D#$%^ses like you are not inconvenienced by us as slower traffic on the road - if you can't behave, the cyclist will be forced into their cars which will be more traffic for you ! Now, the law has agreed to 'turn a blind eye' to us cyclists to use the yellow lane - that does not mean you in your car can drive like a P@#$% ! and try to run us down in the yellow lane. NOW GO THINK ABOUT IT - AND JUST ONE WORD FROM YOU NOW AND I WILL MOER YOU RIGHT HERE !!! I think he got the message.
  2. he he he ....its called irony dude ...chill
  3. lp's were played to death - mostly just hissing sound coming out of them now :-( Fortunately been able to replace many with CDs - stones, cream, canned heat, b.sabbath, who, zeppelin, dylan, big brother and the holding coy, janis j., deep purple, jefferson airplane, ten years after, lots of jimi...etc etc - but not all the good stuff from; spooky tooth, some zapa, richie, havens, juicy lucy, otis waygood, iron butterfly, mothers of invention, vanilla fudge, country joe and the fish, .........
  4. HALLEFRIGGENLUJAH !!!
  5. oh boy, those were the real music days ! Going to put on some Jimi right now ! (its time for a Purple Haze, man !)
  6. Goes without saying that when you rock up at a road race or ride - your bike must be spotless clean. But what about your MTB ? Just spent hours cleaning the 29er but I know its gonna get all dirty again tomorrow...is it worth washing the bloody thing so often ? (and, what will the style guru say ?!)

  8. I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT !!
  9. AGREE !! Why must there be a NO - it gives the impression that there is an "acceptable" number of muggings etc. before we will be alarmed ? ! One is too many. Like saying only 1000 people killed on the roads over easter is not significant because we have 60 million who were not killed. Flawed logic. - The idea is to find 'positive' occurrences - its not the same as a poll to ask if you like pink bikes or not. (how many people not murdered last year... 60million ....cool, then we don't have a problem)
  10. Raining and more likely to come - means sooner or later a ride with a lot of mud. For the 26 wheels a lot of options, but what have you seen at LBS for a 29er ? (mmm..heading should be 'tyre' ...but don't know how to fix heading lines, eish)
  11. Replies: BURGER ADMIN ....not our fault if PPA does not renew membership now. PPA.....not our fault if organisers open events before our membership renewal is open aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!!
  12. AAAGGGHHH DAAAAMMMMIIITTTT - ANOTHER MTB TRAIL CLOSED !
  13. Why Computers Sometimes Crash! If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port, and the bus is interrupted at a very last resort, and the access of the memory makes your floppy disk abort, then the socket packet pocket has an error to report. If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash, and the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash, and your data is corrupted cause the index doesn't hash, then your situation's hopeless and your system's gonna crash! If the label on the cable on the table at your house, says the network is connected to the button on your mouse, but your packets want to tunnel to another protocol, that's repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall...... And your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss, so your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse; then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang, 'cuz sure as I'm a poet, the sucker's gonna hang. When the copy on your floppy's getting sloppy in the disk, and the macro code instructions cause unwanted risk, then you'll have to flash the BIOS and you'll want to RAM your ROM, just quickly turn the darn thing off and run to tell your Mom!
  14. ..thats the point - you can't renew yet - only after 1 July
  15. PPA members who want early entry to the Burger MTB ? - To make sure you get in before its full, or, - you want a chance at the Early Entry Competition prize ? Not so easy or cheap as you may think. Here's the thing.. CSA requires all riders to have (Pay for) some sort of CSA license. PPA members are (because its included as membership fee) also CSA members (for related events/ryders) PPA members therefore do not have to pay the CSA race fees extra at events PPA membership expires/is only renewable from 1 July 2011 So, if you as PPA member, and enter online now for the end of July Burger MTB, you are not given the R20 PPA member discount and you have to pay an extra R 75 for a CSA license Because you are not a member from 1July onwards yet ! ? That R95 bucks discrimination against PPA members till 1 July Go figure ..... Don't these idiots talk to each other !!!
  16. Yup, not too technical - but if we have the snow on the mountains again - its gonna be lekka cold again !
  17. .....chuck away the broken link, and push the pin back in once I'm lined up the chain for re-joining. Do you know how hard it is to push that pin in straight with a multi-tool chain breaker?! wow! Not sure if you are saying you pushed in a pin that was totally out - i.e. not attached ? The answer is of course to push the pin out just far enough to open/break the chain - but leave it remaining/stuck in a link - not all the way out. I would have though it would be impossible to try and refit a pin that was totally removed before. Anyway - done the above a couple of times and worked fine, but Like the other guys said, avoid the risks by keeping a new break-off pin or the 'quick link plates' in your bag.
  18. Had the same problem - i.e. could not find Schrader valve. Went to motorcycle/scooter service shop and asked for an old tyre. Then cut out the valve (got o-rings from local hardware store)
  19. Following on from previous post - what would be a good 29er Tyre for muddy conditions ?
  20. I also run Saguaro's on my AMC rims - broke two tyre levers to fit them - but boy, once they are on they seal perfectly - even before Stans - and they are fantastic to ride on. Dreading the day I might get into serious mud (like knysna some rainy years) I am worried about road side repairs - Got a bad sidewall cut and used a plug, but any worse and I would have to get them off to insert a patch etc. Not looking forward to try removing them on the trail somewhere.
  21. Before you rush out to spend your hard earned (or which ever why you got them) bucks - I have found that if you place a 'contact enhancer' (not just water) on the pads, the strap works for much longer. i.e. don't throw it away, place some electrode cream - or I just use normal aqueous cream on the contact strips - an voilĂ  - it does pickup your heart rate again.
  22. I Agree with the guys above - Mech Discs just do not work. I have tried helping with 3 different bikes with mechs. It requires a LOT of hand power and even then it just does not stop the bike. The set-up has to be so perfect in terms of alignment, soft pads, max pull leverage. We tried washing and cleaning with thinners, new brake pads etc and just could never get it working properly - Avoid avoid ! V brakes much better if you can't afford hydraulics
