  1. So, it looks like this event may become an annual one. Just received an email from the organisers saying that they are "considering adding the Open Weekend to our annual events calendar in April or May".
  2. Agree. I really hope this becomes an annual event (in addition to the Cycle Challenge weekend and The U race).
  3. I've read rider reports from previous Piket-Bo-Berg Cycle Challenge's comparing a day out at the Mounton's Farm to the Attakwas and Tankwa Trek stages, so it's definitely not a walk in the park, BUT it's a heck of a lot of fun and the quality of the trails blew my mind.
  4. Drove out to Piketberg for the open weekend today. First completed the 45km Route A and then did a couple of sections of Route C. Wow, I couldn't believe how amazing these trails are! A trip to Piketberg should be on everyone's bucket list. Big thanks to organisers for exceptionally well organized event. Everything from the registration to route marking was top class. Pleassssseeeee make this an annual event!!
  5. https://m.facebook.com/pages/category/Sports---Recreation/Cornellskop-mountain-biking-103345658076948/ Seems to be brand new. Has anybody been?
  6. Going to a farm outside Paarl for the upcoming long weekend. I'm taking my mtb to explore the farm and area. Two people in our group would like to hire a couple of mountain bikes to use for the weekend to ride on the farm. Nothing fancy needed. Hard tail will work just fine. Is there a place in Paarl or Wellington where one can hire bikes?
  7. Not sure where to search for an answer or post the question about the lockdown restrictions on exercise, so here goes: What does the current LAW say about exercise curfew? Is the 6am - 6pm exercise law still in place? Or has this been lifted and replaced with the general 4am - 9pm (soon-to-be 10pm) curfew? Or are both still in place? I will really appreciate some clarity on this.

  9. LOADS of options in southern suburbs! You can easily do a full day ride on mostly dirt. Is it safe? Mostly yes, but there is always a risk (there has been a crime spike in recent weeks). Personally I prefer to ride with someone.
  10. This is my first post on the Hub, and sadly it's to warn others that I was mugged next to Hout Bay Road as it passes IY yesterday. I was riding alone (mistake) on my mtb next to the road, but on the upper side of the road (i.e. IY side) heading towards the neck. I passed a large bush (which is about 30m away from main road) but in a very open area and lots of cars passing on the road. Immediately as I passed the bush (about size of VW Van) I noticed two guys 10m ahead of me. I knew exactly what was happening and tried to get away but they tackled me off my bike. I fell on top of the one guy, who got out underneath me in a flash. My first instinct was to look for a weapon and I couldn't see anything on any of them, so I started fighting back, mostly kicking whilst maintaining a death grip on my bike. They yelled at me to "be still" and I could feel them searching my back pocket. When I realized they weren't after my bike I stopped resisting and told them they could have my phone (I ride with a crappy 5 year old phone which I luckily wiped clean on Friday). We all kinda got up together and they wanted to take my watch, but I jumped on my bike and rode off. The whole thing lasted less than a minute from getting knocked down to riding away. I didn't suffer any injuries and still had about 15kms riding to get home (up and over Constantia neck). This is the first time that I have ever been mugged/robbed and don't wish the experience on anyone. It has shaken me up a bit and will definitely be a LOT more careful about where I ride. The reason for posting this is simply to warn other cyclist of where this happened so that they can avoid the same stretch of road passing IY, or if you must ride there stay on the northern side of the road (where the getaway option for a robber is significantly less).
