So should a bike be? Its not about a "fair"wage its about the true cost of something - God imagine if everyone got a "fair" wage - Imagine what the economy would be like - Im sorry but I still dont think whats charged is a true refection in the whole scheme of things - We pay that cause we are kinda forced too - What would happen if we all fixed our own bikes, did all our own services etc - As with the cost of bikes & bike parts & sevicening in this country we all get ripped of, yet we carry on paying. It would result in the prices we pay for the sevicing/repairs to come down. It will end up with even more LBS stores shutting down. As everyone seems to say certain things about fixing & servicing of bikes is not rocket science, I also agree. Yet you pay for it. I would say a good mechanic with lots of experience posssibly deserves it, but most of the time he never fixes your bike. May as well pay all appies the same rate as a mechanic with 15- 20years experience cause its fair. Saying someone deserves a fair wage is not justification for you argument of what an hourly rate for a bike mechanic should be. So the garden service guy should get the same as the garden boy and vice versa?

So from what Ive worked out myself before I get my butt scientifically measured, I need a 143 width(im basing that on my old Specialized V-groove saddle), Now my dilema is does Selle Italia do a 143 width, from what Ive tried to research they dont? So then I move onto the Specialised range, Ive settled on the Specialized Phenom Comp Gel, has anyone tried this saddle at all? I know its all personal preferance, but any feedback would be good - I cant find anywhere on the hub that says anything about it( I found a lot on the Phenom gel)

As with my mechanic the only way is for these mechanics to move away from the big shops and go independent

So a bicycle mechanic is earning more or would you say less then R25 000 a month?

Is that for real, this is what im saying as well. That why I now dont take it too a LBS store to get fixed anymore

Some bike mechanics are not component enough, Its taken me three different bike shops to be happy with the work, in comparison to the level of service I recieved while in the UK. Shouldnt CSA possibly be training bike mechanics? Surely the level of training should be along the lines of a car/motorbike mechanic? Whats the average car/motorbike mechanics wage, not that much im pretty sure. Thats after three years of apprentiship. Well their should be standards in the level of mechanics, as with any industry why should the bicycle industry be any differant. I would say it should be on a sliding scale of pay. Based also on what someone said their wife who is a nurse with degrees then yes I think its a high wage in comparison to the level of training given . So what should a bicycle mechanic be earing? I stand to be corrected on any points

How many bike mechanics actually have the necesarry qualifications to charge R90/hr - That seems quite a bit? Most mechanics are trained in house are they not?

So sorry to hear, the more cases you hear about, it has to be syndicated. Im now convinced without a shadow of a doubt.

I also lived in the UK( 10 years) and how many of those said couriers that went through red lights were also knocked off there bikes? Lots, I can tell u that much. Its just stupid.
