  1. ...or wrangle Cian Uijtdebroeks from Bora and Juan Ayuso from UAE. They look like they could be challenging nicely soon.
  2. Yoh, he has to be sick. That is a crumble of note. What did Yates crash to in the famous Giro / Froome stage and he was just flogged. Wonder if Jim Radcliffe is wondering if his pursuit of the 'lil b*stard' is a good idea now. Sepp might be a cheaper option!
  3. Glad I watched this fred as I was just about to go down this route as well. I'm going to give those guy a ring and see what's what. Thanks.
  4. Watching this as I'm thinking about using them as well for a frame. Got no advice though.
  5. For sure. industrial is a good word. I've seen some stuff that has looked very much like thick gloop covered over a frame but I've also seen a friends bike and it looked incredible. I've heard that the prep and getting a good quality company is the key. I'm thinking about it for one of mine but need to go down and see some samples. You can get some pretty crazy finishes if that's your kind of thing!
  6. That is what I was quoted a few weeks back. Derustit.co.za said r450 for the stripping and then I contacted a couple of Powder Coating places in CT and the quotes for a single colour gloss (or matt) or a clear coat over raw with the chemical prep to stop oxidisation was between R600 and R800 depending on frame weight. Apparently the industry works on weight for quotes. Then I guess get some decals made up and that should be about it. I'm wondering if I'm missing something on the paint vs powder coating argument but I can't find much about the negatives.
  7. Here is a quick question. What not go for a chemical stripping of the frame for about R400 and then got it powder coated? I've been quoted a single colour or clear coat of a Dual sus frame for R600 - R800. Powder coating is supposed to be tougher than standard paint isn't it?
  8. I'm fascinated to see how this plays out. TT coming up that Remco should blitz, 3 bumblebees to then take him on and claw back time with alot of efforts. A lot of roads going up hill and now real team to speak of for Remco once it gets steep. He's looked pretty good so far but there is a long way to Paris (edit: the Spanish Paris) and we've not even seen the Jumbo tag team attack yet. I have not idea how this plays out and that really awesome to look forward to! 😄
  9. I've done a lot of gravel and farm roads and to be honest it's always an attempt to beat the inevitable if you stick with a tow bar rack of any sort. I've been though all sorts and essentially you are trying to stop the flow of air and all the nice dust that comes with it. Those covers work to a degree and this one works the best for the price (https://www.cycle-africa.co.za/page-253-bicycle-drive-chain-cover-chain-baby.html)but for me it's either in the car or on the roof and then you don't have to fight the inevitable. If you're looking at throwing over R3k some of those other bike covers I'd just take that cash and put it into a roof rack.
  10. The way Ineos have cut their team to pieces for next year and not signed anyone I'd be guessing Sir Jim is busy working out the finer details of purchasing QS and their licence a whole and selling off the Ineos one to Sylvan Adams or whoever was relegated in that mess of a thing. That way he gets Remco at current salary, all the sponsors Patrick has, can drop being the headline sponsor for a couple of years and have a proper tilt at the TDF title he's always been after. Only issue is that would probably see the end of the classics powerhouse that has always made QS so much fun to watch. Then again, with project Remco, they haven't ruled the first quarter of the season for a few years now. Which is a shame.
  11. Got an XR2 / XR4 combo. 29'r at 2.6 and a couple of rides in they seem pretty good. The back has given no issues on a HT. The bigger front is a little bit squirmy when pushing a bit over rocks. It's not loose or slippy just has that feeling I've had from some Minions where if feels like the knobbles hit the rock and stick while the casing moves in a different direction for a split second then they unwrap and catch up. It's bit unnerving at first as you feel like your front wheel is going away from you but I've yet to actually have anything happen at all apart from pretty fast, clean runs. Maybe they grip a bit much!
  12. there is a common factor to be fair.
  13. I loved the trident, the fork or what ever they were calling it. Amazing to watch as it imploded over and over again, the passive aggressive beef, Unzue's paternal encouragement in the face of the facts, each prong tuning on the other as the thing falls apart and then watching it all over again in the Netflix doco. The modern trident is just too professional.
  14. Wow, I would have jumped on that for sure! It makes no sense at the moment. I've been looking for a decent 2nd hand fork, wheels and dropper and the prices are still up there. Might be better to buy a whole bike and strip it down for the components and sell on the frame as it would work out way cheaper.
  15. It's a bit of an odd timepiece wise for sure. Depends how desperate you are to sell, how quick you want it gone and if you need the cash. I saw a 2016 Banshee Spitfire for sale recently for R25K and thought that would sell pretty quick at that price but it's still there 'non negotiable' a good 8 weeks later. It's a nice bike and a decent build for sure. 65 degree head / 73 degree seat still looks pretty good 8 years later but it's alu, I'm guessing non boost and narrower 27.5. R16K - 18K would be a bargain to someone, R19K - R22K I would think is fair to both sides, maybe worth more than that but with the market being what it's like then you might have to hold out for the right person to come along. Couple of recent sales (with various specs) on le hub as a guide: https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-bikes/662843/giant-reign https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-bikes/608708/2015-giant-reign-275-2 https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-bikes/634217/giant-reign-advanced-2015 https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-bikes/104124/2015-giant-reign-2-small https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-bikes/112539/2015-giant-reign-for-sale-price-drop Having seen some of the prices of these I might start looking about! 😆
  16. Hopefully then we 'll get another couple of days of JV and Rog' slugging it out one after another on Remco after he racks up a decent advantage on the TT.
  17. Should be super fun. Mauro Vegni will be wondering what he has to do to get a start line like this in May. Jumbo going for a clean sweep. Gee going for a valiant podium. Remco going and going, most sprinters sitting on the couch thanking their lucky stars they didn't get the nod from their team principle and an spicy day as early as stage 3 (which will probably be a dud). Anyone really think there will be much of a story apart from Jumbo v Remco for the GC?
  18. Looking to get a dual sus' frame stripped and painted or clear lacquered over raw alu'. Just wondering who has been doing good work in Cape Town recently. Cheers.
  19. “ two Silverback Mountain bicycles, one Raleigh Mountain bicycle, one Scott Mountain bicycle, one Cloudbutler mountain bicycle, one Titan Mountain bicycle.”
  20. Question, do you have a range of sizes on sale or is it just kit for circus midgets and giants? Nice looking stuff.
