  1. So you get quotes from Bike Addict and then flip over to CWC or Cycllab to buy it from? If I were BA I'd be a bit slow on quotes if I was taking time out to help fund people to get stuff cheaper else were based on my prices. I've only had a few purchases from them but each one has been fine. Good prices (usually) and delivered without any hassle. They have normally been happy to come to the party and drop some coin off some things without prompting either. Sure people have had bad experiences which are valid, heck, when cyclelab were everywhere in the Cape I never really had a great experience at all.
  2. For sure, at that price I'd look at alot of other options and the lyrik would be well up the list. Guy who I'm getting the frame off is offering me that one for the equiviant of R4k I think it's worth a look and a roll out. Most of the reviews are pretty good so should be capable for a while while I dial in the frame & build.
  3. Woah... that is steep. 378 euros online in the land of the Frankfurter and at a standard conversion that starts it journey here at a shade over R6.3K
  4. This is the combo built up (and soon to be torn apart, boxed and sent my way). TARR-Tain-EYY-umm time!
  5. Thanks for all the feedback. Seems like it could be worth ago despite the 'budget' tag slapped on it from 'droo. 🤨 Nah, all good. Just sorting out the finer details and glad that it can be worked on here. Didn't realise you couldn't' get it here. I guess it's their equivalent of a Yari(?) but seeing as they are going for E370 odd new you'd think they would have a good market here.
  6. Thank man, I've had a few forks with the wider range and have tuned them this way and that. For me they are nice to have especially if I can set and forget. I've been riding a fair while and frankly My older pike and Coil MRP were the best up front across a number of frames. Set up, ride, check it's not bottoming out or diving and away you go. Sure the rest are nice to have but will I really miss them? I'm kind of moving towards the simpler angle now after a Ripmo with all the bells and whistles and this Beryl is going for the SA equivalent of R5K but not heard much about them. Recently bought a 2016 smuggler with 115mm RS deb' rear travel and 130mm pike up front and that brought me back to ground. Was so much fun and for the trails that 90% around CT the Ripmo was so overkill and made riding hella boring. Hence the movement into a Hardtail! I guess my Q was more about riding experiences with them (even with the less fancy stuff), the stiffness, tracking etc and this thing that seems to crop up about there being a very definite sweet spot of 70 - 80kgs else you need to replace the neg air spring to suit.
  7. Truthfully I’m pretty simple when it comes to forks. I’m not a tweak’r and just want to set it up and ride. Too many things and I just feel like I’ve possibly screwed a setting and then mind starts ruining the ride.
  8. Hey guys just wondering if anyone has had much to do with the world worst named fork - the DVO Beryl (makes me think of the north of england and what ever that god awful soapie was the brits liked. All depressed, unhealthy looking people and whippets. Sure a few of the water women in that were named Beryl). Anyway, let's come back from that tangent. I've been offered a 140mm (down from 160mm) DVO Beryl to go on my Kingdom Vendetta. I don't really know anything about them apart from they are a cheaper spin off of the Diamond (which I know equally nothing about) and there sees to be a sweet weight range of 70 - 80kg for the standard Neg spring and if you chunk up after some time on the pies then you'd best upgrade that part. Any thoughts, experiences and info welcome.
  9. Inbox me, I've got the contact details of the guy who was selling it as well as Facebook profile etc.
  10. Cannondale Oliver Lefty. . . the one in the link that popped on FB. Time for a sad face.
  11. Ah well… I’ll let the dream die then. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/406444880819736/ No Oliver gravel fork for my ride.
  12. I think I pretty much know the answer but is there any way to fit a 1 1/8 - 1 5 tapered steerer fork into a Niner MCR 9 Steel with a straight head tube but wondered if I'd missed some trick.
  13. Alot of words there but really not saying anything. I think that has been a problem as well. There hasn't been anything substantive from or by management for such a long time. The more the cracks appeared the more everything was painted in the same quotes of 'Ubuntu' and 'togetherness'. There never seemed to be much openness. The various snippets from ex riders that have come out have never really painted a good picture and Haas calling it 'chaos' and Cav'... well say what you like bout him he produced some of their best results and seems now can barely brining himself to speak DR's name. It's a shame, sad for all involved as they did get some good results in 2021 but it all kind of went under the radar by then. I do hope they can come back, there is a lot they have done bringing African riders to the fore and there is alot of talent in the continent and very few structures to to support development. At the end it was a darn shame but the writing on the wall was there in the end it all seemed mired by bad luck, bad judgement despite the best intentions.
  14. Hey there Eeyore, had a bad day? Need a hug to find the meaning in it all? I'm sure there is a soccer mom with very positive text based post on facebook that will show you joy in the world.
  15. And now I have hope on all my bikes! Killer bees to the front.
  16. Hand made apparently. I've always had a soft spot for AMC, their wheels were awesome and kept me very happy on Alu (road and dirt) when the world was going carbon crazy. I'm very stoked that they are back in the game even if it is minus the main man. Was a bummer when they went bust (And I could get any deals on any NOS). Remembering feeling like a legend with those smoking gun rims and everyone scoffing about wide rims. Admittedly they didn't like alot of the trails on the black end of the spectrum. Good to know they have their head on right and seem to be offering tan sidewalls on all their gravel tyres. Cycling news also ran a feature (or press release). https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/american-classic-launches-a-brand-new-road-and-tyre-line-in-the-us/
  17. I've always found SLX and Deore brakes always worked so much better than XT and I've never understood why they have always seems to have issue with XT models.
  18. Geraint Thomas News: Contract negotiations with Ineos Grenadiers still ongoing as Qhubeka-NextHash emerge as possible alternative.
  19. is that the technical term? 'To grow on'. I'm not sure I've ever thought about it but is is 'grows on' / 'grows from' or, realistically, 'grows out of' but the last one seems a bit creepy. ????
  20. Unlike the W2W crew. They don't tell you, nothing so crass. They just wear the W2W jersey when on the on the dirt bike, the spare jersey on the road bike, the tee to the braai, the soft-shell all winter, the buff when running, the spare tee to the do the shopping, the sock to pick up the kids from schoo, the bag to the gym... ????
  21. After wondering the same thing I got a load of core stuff in a sale as it was about 60% off and was quite sceptical to pay full price. After having kit for a while now I can say it's 110% worth it. One thing to look out for is the % of Merino in the mix of the fabric. I bought some Fjern Merino tops from the UK and the mix is under 55% actual Merino and that makes a big difference in the longevity and quality of the item.
  22. The epic knight will take a while looking for his best model horse, find some where to park his camper and horse box, get the horse a full massage, wait for his mate to finish the same and then ride out for the contest. The Munga rider will get a very reliable nag with alot of saddle bags but won't make it to the contest as he's still got 300km to finish, hasn't had any sleep and the lance was ditched in favour of a survival blanket that weighed far less and doubled as a tent, rain cape, poncho, mirror, water carrier and general friend / therapist for the journey.
