  1. There is a better field at this weekend's Warm Water Weekend in Langebaan! I'm racing (read standing on the start line with) Raynard Tissink, James Cunnama, The Caveman and Dan Hugo!!
  2. Great advice. Goes for marathons/runs as well. Rather finish a little dehidrated due to missing the last waterpoint than being completely dehidrated cause you skipped the first couple of waterpoints and are now stuck at the last one with a hundred other thirsty riders.
  3. It is always a difficult decision, but yours seems more simple. Given the fact that you will focus on Sprint Distance events, you will not be allowed a tribike as the races will be draft legal. The longer events 70.3, midlands Ultra and the like are non-drafting races and you can use your TT bike. My suggestion will be if you have money to blow on triathlon recognize your weakness and spend it there. This can be stroke correction lessons for swimming, a new set of wheels and short (legal in drafting races) tri bars for your bike. Otherwise look at upgrading your whole bike. Go carbon with better specs, but IMO you'll get more bang for buck with better wheels. The TT bike looks realy cool, but they are not fit for purpose in your case.

    Transition time...
  6. This is a Black Spade bike. I've seen it around. That is just a custom coating. I'm going road bike, no tri bars

From IMSA tweet: "Weather Guru says: 21-25kph SW, 24 degrees max temp, low cloud cover and humid. Sea temp 22 degrees at present."
  9. Some great value items @ CRC. Looking at the tri stuff. 2XU at half the price than in SA. I think with duties it will still work out much cheaper!

Jeez bru, how do you swim? Or do you just follow the masses like me? I go with contacts, but real risk is getting klapped by Garfield and losing contacts in the ocean. So spares always waiting in transition!

So we get a (and give a couple) of PK's during the swim....for me the interesting bit wil be the cycle. 3000 people with 10m gaps creates for two long lines (assuming everyone is in the process of being passed or passing). We need to be very careful with the drafting and blocking rules.
  13. The entry is fine if you are racing. What is expensive is for the spectators. R350 vs R550. Meaning the race costs R200? Also, food seems to be included?
  14. Always a tough decision. Borrow a mate's bike to train a bit and do a sprint tri is first place. Better value for (less) money in secondhand market. Buy a new (cheapish) bike and you like tri - you would like to upgrade quite early (remember the rule - don't get pulled into the tech stuff they have at tri's. It can be depressing seeing all the bike porn and compression gear there!) Buy a new (cheapisn) bike and you don't like tri's nor cycling - you'll lose 40% of its value.

  16. Friend of mine cracked his frame (twice) parking below a tree outside his house!! My roof racks plus one bike on top results in about 15% to 20% less fuel efficiency. I measured this this holiday driving from Cape Town to Arniston and back. TDI usually gets 14.5 - 15 km /liter. With bike it was closer to 12. It was very windy on both days

I also got hit by a perfect storm over the last month. Light bronchitis and ITB over December. Recovered nicely from both only to strain my achillis on my first brick back. Now I'm only swimming to keep the lungs and heart going. Also looked at sub 6 and will still go for it, but will run until something breaks and then run/walk the rest.
  18. I swim with Aquasphere Kayene's My link. I do not swim with them in the pool though as the chlorine takes its toll on the lenses. PS: Saw that Lance Armstrong swam with them in the Xterra worlds. I'm glad he took my advice..
  19. HEard a rumour that the event was not TSA sanctioned. What does this even mean? Obviously it just impacts the winners if it was WP trails or something?

"This is a 90km Bike Ride in East London, South Africa. The Bike Ride has a total ascent of 697 m and has a maximum elevation of 527m." Can't answer the rest, but I will be careful to try and target same times as 94.7. There is a little warm-up swim before and warm down run afterwards to consider in 70.3

  23. What size. Pornstar is selling all his stuff. He is abount 1.85 and 85kgs
  24. By the way, Kent Horner came past me (read flew past me) and then a couple of minutes later he was behind me again. They sent him on a 10km detour. His words to me: "Don't worry, I'll catch them". Won the event from Jean van Wyk (probably the most promising triathlete - watch him at 70.3!
