  1. Good race yes. Wind did blow out the markers though. We've taken the average of a couple of GPS readings and give some way to swimming straight, but the swim seems to have been closer to 1.4km. The water was rough and I was very glad to be in a wetsuit!
  2. Doubt that it iwll be wetsuit legal. also depends on which race you do. Short one 20 degrees, long one 22 degrees. We just made it for BSG and it's been hot the last couple of days.

    Injuries

Different stuff. Trans act has an active ingredient. K-tape's wave pattern found on the tape's adhesive has a lifting effect on the skin which can reduce swelling and inflammation by improving circulation and reduce pain by taking pressure off pain receptors (quote).
  4. That is fast! Not comparing apples with apples, but that is the same speed Raynard Tissink averages over 180km in an IM.

Check out Terry's new stuff (Xterra) Xterra stuff
  6. Saturday mornings at Clifton. R40 pays for lifegaurds and is a 150m lap with markers in the water,so you practice going through the swell and back out. Do 7-10 laps depending on the cold.
  7. What about velocity sports? Raynard Tissink and Co? Going for 6:00 - 6:15 I think

    IM70.3 SA

I'm not so sure. They had 200 spots left when "normal" entries closed, and had a big Facebook and Twitter campaign to flog the rest. So I think they have found a good sweet spot. Lift the price too much and you'll piss of returning athletes. What will be interesting is how many are first timers. given the bigger field it must be quite a few.
  9. They say that it "is an almost certainty" that they will stage a 70.3 race at the same time. This will get the numbers up. Challenge have done this before.

    IM70.3 SA

Also hitting the bricks from now on. Did a 110km ride, 10km run brick this weekend. 5 hours dead including slow transition (racking bike on car etc). Felt OK, but if it gets any hotter than 24 degrees it will be tough!

    IM70.3 SA

70.3 SA now sold out! It is the biggest Ironman 70.3 event in the world. Not looking forward to the swim with 1500 others (in my wave) and also, good luck to the marshals trying to give cards to 3000 cyclists blocking and/or drafting!

  13. Seems they are communicating actively on their Facebook page. Seems to be trying their best - but then again I don't have money outstanding

Sportsmans warehouse stocks ORCA (R700 for shorts), New balance have good quality shorts for around R350. Also CWC has 2XU for around R840. www.capemulti.co.za (great service by Anna- as above) www.fluidlines.co.za (Bernard's online shop)
  16. 32GI for me. Hammer Perpetuim also works wonders, but I don't enjoy the texture. I also use the 32GI chews as Gu's make me sick. Again as a lot of people said. Try everything and stick what works for you.

    IM70.3 SA

Normal entries close today at 00:00. I've heard that there is less than 200 spots available and this includes people that have registered and have not paid.
  18. I think there is a couple of things to consider: - Other events (in CT and other Ultra Triathlon events elsewhere in SA) - Weather trends - Holidays "Conventional wisdom" says that the best times to visit Cape Town (i.e. also to have a IM distance triathlon) is September/October and April/May. April/May in my opinion is out due to Ironman SA (less impact as it is certain weekends - 2 Oceans and Easter). You don't want the race to be here over the holidays (won't get the road closures) nor over winter (it #$%^#$%^ rains the whole time - especially weekends!) This leaves September/October maybe November. There is only one Ultra distance Triathlon in October and that is the 2nd Midlands Ultra (1/2 IM distance). Also, there is Bela Bela, but that is shorter, but it might cannibalize on 1/2IM event. So I think late October early November (like you had it!) is the best time. However, if the wind blows like it did this morning I would not get out of bed even if I paid R3000 - even though I did get out of bed this morning and did go for a cycle!
  19. Jip, they sorted it out. They came screaming past us and just let some water down the side.

    Tri bars

+1 The clip-ons have a couple of settings that can be adjusted, but it is important to get set up so that you are relaxed. As Garfield said they'll move you as far forward and down (in front) to get an aggressive position (that is comfortable). Reverse seatpost is advisable to get forward but not essential. Small things like elbows just off the pads etc. will make a huge difference.
  21. He had quite the fall. Broke his helmet in half!
  22. That I'll do for sure!! Do you have some ballpark dates in mind (1st QTR, 2nd QTR, 3rd QTR, 4th QTR 2012)?
  23. We swim with ATC in the channels in the waterfront as open water training. We get quite a bit of "support" (call it curiosity) from the residents. It is a loop that we swim which will not work and we're only 30 swimmers, but I'm sure the channels go elsewhere and spectators can line the sides before moving to the Atlantic seaboard to support the runners. I will do do CCT some time! Just need to get the legs!
  24. Mango charges R200. I put my bike into a www.bikesafe.co.za box
  25. Ya, this thing is not happening. What a shame. Garfield, now you have to push the training out for 70.3!
