    Wetsuits

This should give you some idea, but if I were you I will go try on some wetsuits just for sizing; (Source. xterra wetsuits)
  4. Closest and toughest for me is Clifton to cable car via kloofweg (the windy one past roadshouse)
  5. Vit C overdose. LOTS of water. 4 liters + a day. Helps your body get rid of excess vitamins en get rid of bugs. Fresh fruit and veg Rest No exercise - you'll screw up your heart.
  6. Ya, my friend "found" his 2 bikes at NW. He asked the owner if he has bikes of this description which he denied. He went to Cash Crusaders next door and could go right through to the back where he found his two bikes beings stripped (at NW). He did not involve the cops as the owner said he did not see the bikes come in and thought they were in for a service. In retrospect he should have involved the cops
  7. R1537 (R37 registration fee) www.ironman703.co.za Can't wait!
  8. So Robbie McEwen and Robbie Hunter missed out on the Team Radio Shack selection for TdF. Would have loved to have a South African (Hunter) there for the sprints: The nine riders are: Jani Brajkovic Chris Horner Markel Irizar Andrea Klöden Levi Leipheimer Dmitriy Muravyev Sérgio Paulinho Yaroslav Popovych Haimar Zubeldia Read more: http://www.livestrong.com/teamradioshack/news_lineup-team-radioshacks-2011-tour-de-france-roster-announced/#ixzz1PwZMCIcF
  9. I don't know if you've seen these: www.bikesafe.co.za. I'm looking to buy one as I don't want to take my bike apart and put it back together after a flight. Not too sure about rentals though. LBS probably the best bet.
  10. Haha, yes.I met her this week - lovely lady. Great products and great customer service!
  11. I really don't know what the issue is - it is a bit of cash, yes. One or two nights out on the town will cost you more. This is a new event, so not an event that we've always done and now the price is to high. Either enter...or don't. A couple of friends have decided to fly up from Cape Town to do the event, just because it is a privilege to be fit and to do the first 5150 in SA... good on them! This event WILL sell out. At R695 or R800...guaranteed.
  12. +1. I got a great deal and I'm very happy with my Xterra suit. another option is to look at www.fluidlines.co.za they might have last year's Orca models at reduced prices, but they are in the Strand if I'm correct
  13. What about a compromise? We leave our subjective opinions out of it and let objective economic market forces take over. For some R700 bucks is a lot, for others its not (i.e. they will do the event and fly up from Cape Town). If the event is sold out, then it was not over priced - if not...well then daylight robbery!
  14. On the Ironman Facebook site they confirmed the Bela Bela will be the only 5150 to be held this year. R695 is for that race only and "on special" until 10 June. I'm not sure what the price increase will be after that. I'm sure that Ironman will put up a great show and it will be worth the R695 and it will be a full field on the day. That said...I will not be there.
  15. I've posted about these guys before, now they have a website: www.eventshacker.co.za Google calendar probably not the best platform, but understandable as it is free. I can only get access to the triathlon calendar as they only launch officially on 1 June. But a comprehensive list of triathlons - the most complete list I've come across. Hopefully they can build ENTER functionality in - or just links
  16. The swimming, biking, running is at least a known - the wind is the big unknown!
  17. I found what the duties and VAT will be, but I don't know if anyone has had the "in possession for a certain amount of time issue". I bought a 2010 bike here (in the US) and want to bring it back in April. Has anyone brought bikes back as sports equipment? Obviously walking with a box that size will make you stick out like a needle. Someone else said that I should break up the bike and bring it in as components as the duty will come down from around 35% to 15%. Obviously then i have to pay someone to put it back together a refit the bike (I'm not experienced enough). Any suggestions?
  18. Hi all, The main new guy question. Main reason for cycling will be tri's and IM70.3 type stuff with the odd Argus and Burger. I'm not a cyclist at all, but have done my fair bit of research on frames, bikes components, etc etc and "listening" to the advice from experienced hubbers online. I have the option of buying one of two bikes. I live in LA at the moment, so I can get a good deal on these two bikes. There is no price difference between the two: Specialized Roubaix Comp 2010 - 105 Cannondale Synapse 5 2011 - 105 I'm leaning towards the Roubaix as it is a slightly longer bike which makes handling easier. It is also more comfortable on longer rides. ANy suggestions? Other bikes I should consider in this range?
  19. The 405's are now dirt cheap as the 410 is coming out. I'm getting mine in two weeks time. I would guess its worth the wait, but not the price in SA.
  20. I saw this article last week and it might be of interest: NY Times: The benefits of exercising before breakfast. http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/12/15/phys-ed-the-benefits-of-exercising-before-breakfast/ My view: If it works for you then great. I struggle if I don't eat something.
  21. I also saw the event on TV and from what I remember it's a flat course and fresh water swim. Looked amazing though!
  22. +1 Check this out as well - interesting youtube video explaining the dynamics of "barefoot" running. http://inov-8.com/News-Detail.asp?NID=342&L=26
  23. I'm not there this year, but in the past I cycled to Bredasdorp and back from Struisbaai. Cars are f$%^@$^ insane on that road and there's no shoulder, so option one was to let someone follow me in a car, or two, drive out to Bredasdorp and cycle either towards Caledon, Stormsvlei or Swellendan. Killer rolling hills and at least a shoulder. Awesome trails for MTB between Stuis and L'Agulas I believe.
  24. Also planning your race season better might help. Most people just do add hoc races and keep their training programs the same through the "race season". It is very important to taper before a big race. So my advice is to plan your racing season, decide which races will be used as training runs to test fueling etc and which races will be PB races.
  25. From CT Sportsmans send it to Polar anyway. Worth the 2 week wait if you dont take shortcuts. They replace the seal etc. That said, however, I'm going for Garmin now. The new Forerunner 410 is awesome and costs R2500 in the states
