I got my 8 year old a MTB a while back........ we ride for fun on the road ....... enjoy spending the time with them when they that small ......PS : he also average about 12 - 15 km when we ride ........ My 13 year old on the other hand want to ride in the League ........ thats a whole different story .........
Last year they broke into groups based on your number ..... 1 - 100 was in front ....... racing snakes the rest just filled up behind them 101 - 500 i think and so on.......
Seriously it is slower riding your MTB on the road....... even if you replace the tyres with slicks ........... MTB will make you stronger and a better climber ........ hence im switching to MTB for the winter ......... in my limited MTB experince all i did was go up hill ..... yep i walked a few....... then there was the decent on the gravel road and sharp corners......... MTB will only make you a better cyclist ( yes and friendlier ) enjoy cycling no matter what dicipline you do .........

I agree the system is flawed......... I know someone that got a QQ start and he only started cycling Jan 2011 ........ so no seeding ride and my son who attempted the Burger (cramped at 70km) got a start in the PPA groups............ so maybe we must all get a friend in the seeding office and get seeded in the A and B groups ........ will make the racing interesting....... But who cares where they start as long as they give way for the better rides that got seeded lower ..........
looks like the race officials is gonna have there hands full counting spokes .............. no way i am gonna let a guy with 19 spokes instaed of 20 beat me to my 23000 position in the Argus ............
Good advise Fakes ......... its just that some of us dont have old tubes......... we actually fix it .......... ........... What also works well is a pool noodle over the bars...... you get ones that is hallow in the centre ...........
